My inebriated trade idea to get us Brook Lopez

I am down but mostly because SF is a much easier position to fill in the NBA than C.

I love Batum and i'm not a fan of Lopez contract but thats something I think you have to do. If it was any other position then C id want to keep Batum because getting two way SG/SF aren't as easy as it used to be but C's are damn near extinct and he is a good one.

Assuming that the Nets want to part with Lopez for Howard, that's really not bad. At all.

It's a good deal; then I see the lakers getting batum and I start to cry. Let the lakers lose Howard for nothing. I think it would be bitter sweet.

What if oshley talks to Howard's agent and works out a wink deal for Howard. Tell him that if Howard chooses Portland as his free agent signing; we will trade him for Lopez when we can in December? It may just work!!! :)

Then wink deal with hickson; saying we need to renounce so we can bring in talent; then promise him like 7-8 million after we get a Howard.

If only my fantasies became realities....

inebriated is right

Except the part where it hurts the brand. Batum is a fan favorite. No smart GM would trade him unless he brought in a star.

That trade makes a lot of sense to everybody. I'd be up for it. Tough to see Batum go, but dang, you have to do it to line up a starting PF/C tandem for the next decade.

I would cry if Batum became a Laker. And hate the blazers if they sent him there.

This gets us Lopez, but we don't part with Batum and we can keep Hickson:

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=azbe8a4

Brooklyn gets Howard
LA gets Aldridge, Freeland and Pavlovic
Portland gets Lopez, Teletovic and Brooks

Portland
C - Lopez
PF - Hickson
SF - Batum
SG - Mathews
PG - Lillard

I just think Aldridge is much more important to a successful team than Batum. And a frontcourt of Aldridge and Lopez would be insane. I don't want to lose Batum, he and Lillard are my two favorite Blazers to watch, but the original trade would give this team the best shot at becoming a real western power.

People are way overvaluing Batum. Trading Aldridge for Lopez would almost be a downgrade, trading Batum for Lopez would instantly give us one of the best front court pairs in the league.

Matthews actually guarded Durant better last time then Nic.

I not in a hurry to get rid of Nic but for a true (on the verge of All-Star caliber) Center? Ok.

How many poitns and assists did Matthews get as well?

Yep. It'd especially suck to see Batum in a Laker uni. But if you have a chance to have that much size and talent at PF and C, you have to take it.

Although I don't see how this really helps the Lakers become a contender, it does get them something to show for the debacle that is this season. Batum would easily be the best wingman Kobe's ever played with. You'd start seeing a lot of poor man's Jordan/Pippen comparisons. (Very poor man.)

? Would have to look this up. You know off the top of your head? Not sure of the point you are making. I would imagine it was less points then Nic or Durant though. Possibly more assists.

http://espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=400278274

Nicolas Batum, SF 44 6-17 3-8 6-6 2 5 7 2 1 1 3 4 -7 21
Wesley Matthews, SG 39 2-8 1-2 2-2 1 0 1 4 1 1 2 4 -1 7

WAY more rebounds, only 2 assists (which is rather rare for Nic lately) and 3 times as many points.

I am not sure you are going to get anyone to disagree that Nic is going to fill up the box score more for our team most nights. The poster was talking specifically guarding Durant. Matthews did that well and really guarded LeBron well (which I was surprised by honestly) when Nic has struggled with him in the past.
