One time, he gets off his couch and suddenly needs to miss a year. This season, he jumps up, comes down and needs to miss a year. How the hell are these injuries happening? And how can we assume they won't happen again?

Well, he's been hurt ever since he graduated HS so one can only assume that he is indeed injury prone.

"He's back to 100%" they'll say and follow it up with "but for how long?"

It truly sucks.

Just watch...he'll come back, we're in the NBA finals and he gets injured in warmups before game 7 and that's the end of his career. :(

He'll get healthy and then it'll be a waiting game for his next major injury...:sigh:

Yah, because his injuries have each been career threatening.

Good news, it's never the same injury. Perhaps once he's had surgery on both legs and both arms, he'll be good to go!

We can rebuild him, make him better than he was before. Better... stronger...faster.

how many times has he jumped in the air or gotten off of his couch the last few years? and how many times has he gotten injured doing so?

Only have to get hurt one of those times to miss a whole season apparently.

well yeah. but does that mean they aren't freak injuries that we can't expect to continue?

I really wonder if this latest one wasn't a delayed reaction to his injury when he bumped knees with Corey Maggette's knee brace. Same knee. Same knee cap. Isn't it possible that the bone was fractured, and over time it began to get worse until finally it snapped?

The med staff has said it isn't...but I wonder how they are so sure. Their quick discounting of the possibility seems a little CYA to me.

How else could they explain his knee cap essentially splitting from only jumping straight up in the air? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I had a knee like that. It took a lot of abuse for years, never complained. But eventually, it reached the limit, and just snapped. 35 people died that day. Don't know where it got the automatic rifle. The other knee claimed it saw nothing.

Well, that kind of fracture is relatively common. Basically the contraction of the quad just breaks the knee cap. But....still it does makes you wonder....

Did your knee work at the Post Office?

some really silly threads lately Kingspeed :smiley-drama:

we can assume nothing with the health of any player. We can assume that more injuries will happen to Trailblazers forever as it's a rough game... pretty much everyone who has ever played suffers them. Greg's run of injuries the last few years may be the last major injuries he ever sustains. They may be the result of just dumb luck, but for sure we will never be in the know of whats what until his playing days are over and are looking back at his career. In the meantime we can take some solace in the fact that none of his setbacks should limit him physically once he's good to go again. When he went down last week I thought he'd torn multiple tendons alla Shaun Livingston... what actually happened was much much less severe.

I disagree. Not every player is built the same and some players are more prone to injury than others, particularly big men. We can expect Greg to get injured again.

Can we argue that this will be the last major injury he ever sustains? Sure, we can. We can also just as easily argue that it won't be.

He's building a rep for injury. He still suffers from foul trouble, limiting his minutes... The only solution to which is experience... which requires him to stay on the floor... which requires him to be healthy. It's a vicious cycle but what is certain is that we can't depend on him.

It has nothing to do with Greg Oden... and everything to do with... THE CURSE. We need a better name really... the Portland Bigman Curse... or actually... I think I know what it is... I have seen it in my dreams... tall... big... lumbering... what is that... an Axe? "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!!!" It is the curse of The Curse of Paul Bunyan. The statue of course.

Paul Bunyan Statue

Joel Przybilla was spared... evidently, because of his resemblance.

Przybilla was spared because he sacrificed his offensive game at the altar of the basketball gods.

my point was we can expect most every player to get injured again.

no one is arguing that

reputation means jack. At 37 years old Grant Hill seems to be relatively healthy these days years removed from being written off as injury prone. Joel Przybilla seems to have shaken the bad rap as well. Shit happens, it's a rough game.

When knees snap, Falling Down happens.

Duly noted. But Joel never had his knees operated on. Most of his injuries were of the nagging variety. Those are easier to come back from. He has worked really hard on his conditioning and accomplished a big goal of his by playing in all 82 games last year. I can't even imagine Greg doing that - that would be sweet.
