Me?

Pryz
Roy
Aldridge

In my best MIXUM impression, "Sorry, but it's true."

In light of Oden's absences and/or foul trouble, without Joel, this team goes nowhere this season. I'd bet he's directly/indirectly responsible for 10 wins already.

Roy
Aldridge
Odenbilla

There is no clear-cut third player to me. The center spot has been a major strength for Portland, due to the efforts of both Przybilla and Oden. Przybilla alone isn't enough to be a true impact player but, for much of the season, the center spot in total has been an impact position.

Obviously, you guys don't understand the significance of Joel's defense. The team can win games without Roy. that's been proven already. While he'd be hugely missed, there are other players who - by committee - could fill some of his roles (other than some leadership attributes..)

You take Pryz out, this season, though? Heh, weeping and gnashing of teeth.

By what, a six game stretch? You're kidding yourself if you think Joel's defense is more valuable than Roy's offense.

Then, I'm kidding myself.

Sure, Roy's the MVP in the "classic" sense. I'm just talking about wins and losses. I'd bet you'd be surprised.

With Joel out, who plays Center, night in and night out??

Oden.

If Roy is injured, who plays SG? Bayless?

1) I prefaced my original post with the realities of Oden being out

2) Rudy

ummmm who's that guy that was the best player on the silver medal winning team??? oh yea, Rudy Fernandez.

still i'd go;
Roy
Pryz and it's ALOT closer than most want to recognize

LA, he's come along real well but hasn't "impacted" games like the other two.

roy

aldridge
pryz

nobodys close after that

outlaw?

Joel is very valuable to this team. I am one of his biggest fans. But the question was for the season. If Joel was not on the team we MIGHT be able to find a replacement. If Broy was not on this team............well I think he is a little harder to replace. And that no way, shape, or form, diminishes what Joel means to this team. just that BROY means more.

But Rudy is out as well.

Rudy is injured.

Rudy is injured.

And then it becomes a question of; if you had to give up Joel with Oden in his place, or Roy with Rudy in his place, which team would be better? Rudy with Joel or Roy with Oden?

I agree, ABM. Without Joel, our defense would be severely lacking in the toughness department. He alone erased 10 possible points against the Nets and that doesn't even count the shots that he altered or the way that NJ set up their offensive possessions.

3) LA

Pryz is the unsung hero of the season. Don't get me wrong, Roy is our best player and he's had some awesome games, but often when he's trying to lift the team on his shoulders and shoot us out of a game, it's Joel who's making that timely momentum changing block or clogging up the middle forcing the ball outside. Most people who understand the game see this, but I can appreciate the kids around here who only look at stats.

A good example was last night against the Nets. Take Joel out of the mix and we lose easily. His presence changed the game.

My feeling is that if you removed Joel this team probably has about 5-10 more losses. Remove Roy and there's a good chance this is a 25-30 win team for the year. Joel's been great, but Roy's production is pretty much irreplaceable.

And then it becomes a question of; if you had to give up Joel with Oden in his place, or Roy with Rudy in his place, which team would be better? Rudy with Joel or Roy with Oden?

The one is quite easy.

I love Joel, and I know how important he's been, but he's only started 26 games this year and averages 23 minutes a game. It's unfair to compare his importance to an all-star, to the third best SG in the league who averages over 37 minutes a night.

If we didn't have Roy this entire year we're probably looking up at Phoenix for the 8th spot. Opposing teams entire game plans start & end with Roy and he still delivers. How many times has he saved us in the last minute of a game, let alone in the 4th quarter? Dude had 50 points. Dude had 10 steals. We've ridden the guy all year and you have the nerve to suggest he's not the most valuable player on this team? How dare you. How DARE you.

I read what you have to say, look at your avatar, then simply go, "meh."
