Mine are related. In a body shop it's all about speed. The single best thing is that when I'm in a hurry to put cars together on a a Friday the day FLIES, it isn't like a boring office job. I feel like there aren't enough hours in the day.

The worst thing is related, we always have time pressure put on us. You have to get cars done as fast as you can while doing 100 percent quality.
 
What's the worst, unsafest repair you've ever seen?
 
Best: my pay, access to amazing wine.

Worst: working. Nah.... I deal with sales people. Being a finance guy, sales people are foreigners to me. It's like talking to a foreigner that doesn't speak a lick of English.

Oh my God, you wouldn't believe it. Lady bought a Ford Expedition from a little used car lot. It pulled and the tire store said they couldn't align it and she should bring it to a shop to check it out.

We started looking at it and it had been hit hard at the lower front door and caved in the bottom of the A pillar. Someone had screwed a new piece over a gaping hole. That was bad but the vehicle was a 2wd and someone had cut the front half of the frame out of it and welded a 4wd half in. They cut the axles at the hubs so it would still be a 2wd. I pried on the welded section and it was coming apart, mostly being held together by the body to frame bolts.

I told the guy dealing with the lady to tell her not to drive it at all, but if she did drive surface streets and park it. She had 2 child seats in the back. I left for lunch at the same time she left with the car and she went bombing up the onramp to the freeway. I was scared for her and anyone riding by her.

It was a deathtrap, could still be on the road for all I know.
 
LOL at this car repair. Dunno if it was a legit story or not (as stories have come out after the fact saying some of the stuff was waaayyyy exaggerated), but my favorite "Pimp My Ride" was some 20-year old driving a car that was actually two different old Hondas (??) welded together. Your story somehow reminded me of that.

It happens all the time. I can cut a car in 2 and weld it together. It just isn't cost effective or really a safe thing to do unless done absolutely correct. I remember on Pimp My Ride there was a car they didn't do because it had been spliced. I think it was an Escort anyway, piece of junk when new.

I also remember Foster Auto Parts in Portland had the front of a green VW wagon and two rear halves ready to go if you wanted to buy them together. All the same green even.

Maybe we're talking about the same episode. Dorky Eminem goofball. They gave him a tricked out Scion instead, IIRC.

Dude for real. Sales people are so annoying. They make promises that arent possible and act like youre a dick when you tell them so.

When a salesperson gets cocky and tries to sell me anything, i just get pissed off and make the decision that im not buying shit from them.

Scions may cost the second least, but ive heard some of the models are deathmobiles.
 
I bought a 2003 focus in 2009 for 4500 bucks. Had 83 thousand miles. Now has 138 thousand, bought tires twice for 300 bucks. Changed oil 15 times at 30 dollars each time.
Flushed coolant once. Free

It gets right around 30mpg, a lot of that was freeway.

That's it. Just washed it for first time since late 2014 (I shit you not) it's white.

Rough estimate is that with insurance I've spent about 2000 per year including the cost of the car.

It needs some suspension and a few other things. I don't know if I will spend a penny on it though. Haven't decided. It has been the best car ever.

Imagine them when they work for you. Their job is to sell, so they sell regardless of the accounting of it. They don't care that X cost $20, if they can sell it for $10, they did their job as far as they care.

Quite a while back, our management tied commissions to margins and write offs rather than just straight revenue. Amazing how that kind of thinking alters sales people's motivation.

I bought my son one of those after high school and he drove it 5 years...just sold it. He got great gas mileage and now bought a Nissan Xterra SUV...nice car but he misses the focus...what I liked about that Ford was the suspension...really hugged the curves of the road.
 
The worst thing about my job is that I only have time to read 5% of the posts. The best thing about my job is that I can post "Fuck the CIA" and they won't come for me till I do it a couple more times.
 
My job is rewarding...caring for a completely disabled man two nights a week...the good is I have everyday off at home and he's a sports nut...the bad is that it's a graveyard shift on the weekend. The good is also not dealing with hundreds of people everyday since I retired from the education field..
 
My current "job" is as an on call Building Monitor at my local community center. I "monitor" weekend (usually) activities such as church services, community education , and celebrations of all kinds.

The best part is getting paid to read or watch Netflix during the events and to ogle any attractive ladies who might be a part of said events......

The worst part is being forced to listen to excruciatingly loud music played on industrial strength entertainment systems pumping out music of a type (Ranchera, Norteno, hip hop and current American Top 40) I'm fine with for the first half hour (maybe) but which starts to all sound the same after that.....I suspect my already damaged hearing has degraded since I took the job......

Get some high tech ear protection...they've come a long way over the years. I keep a pair in each of my guitar cases..

You should focus more on the kids.

I'm not quite sure what I mean by that, but I feel like there's a voice from above telling me I should tell you to focus on the children. Today's youth needs the guidance of today's retirees.

It corners like a go kart. It needs a lot of work to be good again so I'm torn. Going to an Xterra would be a change, corners he took at 50 would be 30 if that. My brakes have lasted forever, barely need them if you time the lights.

Dog, this scares me. You really ARE a stalker! BTW.......I really hate it when you leave nose prints from pressing up against at my car window......they're really annoying....once the smoke clears......
