Nash to Boston almost done?

An NHL source confirmed to Murphy’s Hockey Law early Sunday morning that the New York Rangers – asElliotte Friedman reported Saturday night, – are on the verge of sending star winger Rick Nash to the Boston Bruins. The only thing holding up the deal, as of just after midnight, was the two teams finding a third dance partner to complete a potential three-team deal.

According to this source, the Bruins would send prospect Trent Frederic, a first round pick and “more” to the Rangers in exchange for their leading goal scorer, Nash (18 goals), a roster player and another piece yet to be determined. However, the parameters of the deal required a third team to participate due to salary cap implications similar to those that held up the Derek Brassard to Pittsburgh trade. It was not definite that this would nix the potential trade, but it was part of the reason Nash didn’t wake up a Bruin Sunday morning.

Sounds like only thing holding it up is Boston working out some cap stuff (similar to the Pens with Brass). Once it goes down and we get a very solid prospect like Frederic and a 1st you would have to feel good about that.

Also says to me the Rangers have had the right mindset the past handful of years as they tried to actually win a cup for them and the fans. Doesn't mean every single deal was a good deal, the Yandle deal was the worst one by far I believe, but the thought process of trying to do everything they could within reason to win us a cup was the right mindset I believe. Some of the specific deals were the wrong deals for sure, but the mindset was correct I believe.

Two 1st round picks last year (including a top 7), two 1st round picks this year (should include worst case a top 7), two 2nd round picks this year, and two 3rd round picks this year. That is how you do a quick reset and build up another team that hopefully can have a 5 or 6 year cup window like we just had. We have essentially recouped a good % of what we have dealt the past couple of years while we were going all in to win a cup. And if we deal McDonagh or Zucc before the DL or at the draft, the bundle of picks we'll have could be enormous.

Now it is on Gorton and team to make sure we hit on most of these extra picks so we can quickly get back to winning.

Looks like Lindgren and other pieces. Another smart player according to the scouting report. Which is great because multiple players on our team are morons. Especially on defense.

Yeah, Lindgren instead of Frederic. Adding a ton of D it appears. Maybe that means in the draft we go O. Good stuff.

Lindgren has the potential to be a top four defenseman in the NHL. His offensive game did get better as the season went on, and he was at his best at the Under 18s, so there is some suggestion that there is untapped potential in that aspect of his game. In terms of a stylistic comparison, he is similar to Ryan McDonagh of the New York Rangers but this is a stylistic comparison only, and not one based on talent or potential.

Sounds like his D is ahead of his O. Solid defender who is good in his own zone and is a very good skater. Exactly what we need given the talents of some of our other dmen, and our current shortcomings. 6' 200 lb. guy. I like it. Should do well under our new coach, who I assume will emphasize tough in zone D even a little bit, which is still way ahead of AV.

The trade call has not happened yet so the deal is not official but the Rangers are expected to get Boston's first round pick, prospect Ryan Lindgren and other pieces. (Bob McKenzie)

Lindgren was the Bruins 2nd round pick in 2016 and is in second season at the University of Minnesota.

And this could be really good for us on the McDonagh front as well. With Boston improving that should push TB and Toronto (the two teams in on McDonagh the most) to step up their efforts to deal for him.

This could work out double great for us if it drives TB or Toronto to go all in for McDonagh. Could be an awesome 25 or so hours for our future.
