NBA Draft

Wizards would have to trade a lot to move up into the top 10 to grab them.

Gay will not be the first player taken in the draft, that was just a huge smockscreen so some teams would try and trade up for it. No teams were interested in doing so, because Toronto wants a proven, veteran PG and a pick.

Toronto will indeed take Bargnani unless there are last-second changes. But Mike James basically has his foot out the door and he proved last season he's a top 15 PG in the league.Either way, Toronto won't compete for another 2-3 years at least.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (chang @ Jun 27 2006, 06:53 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Atlanta is supposed to draft Brandon Roy at #5 and trade with the Houston Rocket #8 Shelden Williams.Personally, I don't see Shelden as anything more than a role player, a Udonis Haslem type player, a PF that does the dirty work like rebound and play D and will score 15 points once a week. I don't see why Atlanta wouldn't take Tyrus Thomas, LaMarcus Aldridge, or Andrea Bargnani because 1 of them is bound to be there and all 3 of those players have much much better upside than Shelden. Shelden has peaked imo while Aldridge and Thomas are only a step behind in polish yet.In the 2nd round, Atlanta should get a PG like you wanted. Daniel Gibson, Darius Washington, Dee Brown, and Will Blalock should all still be available. They add speed and versatility. Gibson is a score first and the 3rd best defensive PG (behind Rondo and Collins who are in their own class). Washington is a good driver and will chip in the jump shot once in awhile. He's not a top 35 talent to me though because his upside is blocked by his character. Dee Brown has incredible speed but that's about all that's going for him. incosistant J and not the best D will hurt him. Blalock is the best passer and has good speed of the 4 which could help Atlanta with scorers like Joe Johnson, Marvin, Childress, and Josh Smith. If Atlanta wants to employ an up-tempo style of play, I would take Blalock. If they want to go half court in the future, I would go Gibson.I would believe that if they trade down from 5 to 8, they should get the Rockets #32 overall pick. With that, they should definately pick up Paul Davis if he's available. Since they would have the next pick anyway #33, ensuring you get the best big man available is important. Although an athletic PF like Alexander Johnson could be a solid pick as well. An international prospect like Freeland or Halperim could be available and they have big upside. Powe might be available and he's the best PF in the draft in terms of skill. He's still young too. Eric Williams could be available. A big body that is probably the strongest in the draft.</div>Shelden Williams is a bit iffy with me now.I just did some research and found out that Grant Hill was the only one that came out of Duke to be a 'successful' NBA player.

Well, I would consider Elton Brand successful.Everyone else is marginal starter.

Woo! Randy Foye! Go T-wolves! Also glad that Ced Simmons got picked. I hope he does well. Should have stayed another year though...

Foye was still on the board when we picked Roy, then when we picked Roy we traded him heads up for Foye? Either the people who decide who we pick cracked under pressure and picked the wrong guy.. or else we just wanted to be cool and be involved in a trade? lol, I like both Roy and Foye (i'm a damn rapper) though. But Foye has been compared to D-Wade so i'll take him haha. I really hope Foye can play PG. If he can, he could easily start this year since Marko is horrid and Marcus Banks is a FA.We have 3 round 2 picks though, so I hope we can get some outside shooter (Steve Novak would be kick ass!), and just a big center for the future.

Foye at PGMcCants at SGRicky Davis at SFKevin Garnett at PF??? at CGet a good center in there and we have a solid starting lineup. The team that looks scary for the future though is Charlotte.. Young and Talented. also look for the bulls to make a run in the next year or so. Felton at PGMay at PFMorrison at SFOkafor at C

Craig Smith is VERY good. Good pick there. Should backup KG pretty well. I don't know about this Jones guy though.

Craig Smith is 6'6". He's not close to being a PF in the NBA. He's a stronger PJ Tucker type player. SF with inside game and a limited jump shot. I think Minnesota was scared of history with Roy. No #6 overall has been anything more than a solid starter. Leon Powe is only a bit taller but has developed his PF much more than Craig Smith.Foye is far off from D-Wade though.Interesting analysis using history. http://nbadraft.net/reeddraftanalysis001.aspHistory says Aldridge will be nothing more than a early star in the career that fades or a solid starter. Tyrus Thomas has more history on his side considering most of the stars are PF but there were no superstars int eh past 20 years.. History favors Bargnani a bit but only because one other international player went #1 but it should be noted all the busts are PF/C. History favors Shelden but all the superstars/stars were guards. History says Roy will be nothing better than a solid starter. Foye will be nothing more than a star and will most likely be a solid starter. Gay is supposed to be a flat-out bust at 8. O'Bryant will be nothing more than a solid starter. Sene will be nothing more than a solid starter.Overall... this draft showed why the NBA is a league of retarded GMs (Isiah Thomas isn't just the king... he's the god of retarded GMs) that don't know a thing about basketball or developing players.More than often, the "safe pick" ends up being nothing more than a role player/solid starter.

I'm trying to attract Marcus Williams to the Atlanta Hawks.
