According to sources, (Jeff) Bowers' stance on not trading star guard Chris Paul and a hardline stance on the subject ultimately cost him his job. That stance combined with what some have labeled as a "sour" relationship with Chris Paul ultimately ended Bowers' tenure with the team.

Paul has been extremely vocal about his unhappiness with where New Orleans is in terms of competing for a championship and Bower has done little in the eyes of ownership to defuse the situation in fact some say he's fanned the flames. The inability to get Paul on board was a huge issue with ownership.

The team has begun a search for a new General Manager there was a strong sentiment in Las Vegas yesterday that Chris Paul is now clearly on the trading block with some executives saying they expected him to be traded in the coming weeks.

GIVE ME CP3

Well, if you're ever going to make a pitch based on salary savings, making it directly to the owner, with no GM in place is the time to do it.

I've now heard both sides of that story. That Bower was fired because he was willing to trade Paul and now that he wasn't willing to trade Paul. Confusing.

Yeah but this one makes more sense to me. I thought this all along since Bower did not seem that close to trading him.

I hope it's just more than confirmation bias. I really do hope we can put together a package for Paul. There isn't a player I wouldn't be willing to trade for him, save Oden (because CP will transform GO's offensive game).

PA should get a *wink wink* deal going with NO that he will buy their second round pick for 3 mil for the next 5 years or something as well as trading Batum, and other young talent to them for Paul.

It's fucking hoopsworld, so take it with a teaspoon of salt.

He should wink wink 50 million into Shinn's pockets also.

basically where I sit too.

To me it makes more sense that Bower was fired because he refused to trade Paul. What GM in their right mind wants to be known as the guy who shipped out Chris Paul for cheap contracts and a prospect or two? It's a deal that might make sense financially, but jeez. Ouch.

It's all speculation. But I imagine it went something like this:
"Fuck no we shouldn't trade him."
"Do it."
"But it's a bad fucking idea."
"Do it or you're fired."
"Ok."
Two weeks later:
"What do you got?"
"Well, there's these crummy deals here I found. What do you think?"
"Did you even try?!? Fuck, this sucks. You're fired."
A month later:
"Huh. Those actually were the best deals around. Oh well, that guy wasn't a team player anyway."

Who here hasn't seen somebody fired under basically the same scenario?

Nobody, which is why this story from Hoopsworld is so stupid.

Hoopsworld broke the Turkoglu trade IIRC as well as the canceled Raptors/Charlotte deal.

Trading CP3 is a disaster.

It seems like the rumored CP3 trade would have happened before the new salary cap info was released. As luck turns out that the cap was higher then expected and the Hornets were not over after they got rid of Mo Pete. So I can see the owner being like, WTF we would have traded CP3 for scraps when we really didn't need to. Pow. Outa heeeerreee.

I read that the trade was set to be done but Shinn got cold feet about trading CP3.

The whole cap thing fucked up everything. The stars to Miami and CP3 staying in NOH let's hope Shinn still wants to get rid of salary even if the hit isnt as bad with no lux tax. He's still paying tens of millions for mediocrity.

The truth is, he is bleeding money, big time, and he's not any closer to selling the team

It's a disaster from a PR standpoint, but a smart move if you're rebuilding. You can use him to get under the cap by dumping some bad contracts, get some young talent to fill in the holes in your lineup and get some draft picks to restock your bench.

I disagree...maybe that is the case, but if it is, then CHA ownership is very shortsighted....New Orleans is nowhere near to being a ready to compete for a title, and Paul is a FA in what 2 years? Does anyone really believe that Paul would re-sign with N.O. if they continue to remain stagnant? I don't....It isn't like Paul didn't give them advance warning...and what do they do? Go out and sign Luther Head...Yeah, that is going to make all the difference...He is leaving eventually, so sooner or later they are going to have to accept that and trade him....they are better off doing it now (or at the trade deadline) than waiting until next offseason...

It is the same principle going on with Parker right now, he has 1 year left....so if you were POR mgmt would you offer Batum for him? Probably not, b\c there is no guarantee he is more than a 1yr rental...that doesn't mean you don't send out talent (Bayless, Rudy, Claver, picks, etc...) for him, but you certainly don't go "all in" for a player who may leave you for a year....same goes for Paul a year from now...There IS an effect on his trade value by waiting....

UTA faces the same situation coming up with Deron Williams, but at least they are winning\advancing in the playoffs and trying (Jefferson) to remain competitive\improve.....

New Orleans is not....

He'll end up being traded to the Spurs I bet.

Yep I talked about this a while back. The longer Shinn goes without selling the team, the higher chance Paul is traded. Shinn wants out. He doesn't want to pay the salary of a guy he no longer gives a rats ass about.

Give me the game of one Chris of Paul and letteth it raineth threes from the corners. There shall be-eth lobs to Greg of Oden near thine rim and kick outs to Lma for a three cubit shot. Yea and verily there shalt be sweet dishes under the rim to Brandon of Roy. So let it be written so let the trade be done!!!

For what? What package do they have? If CP3 is traded to other then Portland it better be due to a better offer and not some bullshit trade to a major media market. In this case Texas as that is the market share of SA when they are the last Texas team.

The sick thing to think about is while with Paul, Tyson Chandler, actually averaged nearly a dozen points a game, and he basically only has one offensive skill. Catch Alley-Oops. That makes me wonder what a good player could average with him.

Not only that, but the hoopsworld story itself is paradoxical. It says he was fired for not wanting to trade Paul, and for not getting along with him. What is the big deal about getting along with a player you supposedly should be trading?

I think the idea was that Bowers was unable to sell Paul on staying (poor relationship) but was also unwilling to trade him. In other words, you need to make one of the two happen...not both at the same time.

As for my theory that all signs point to imminent Chris Paulification:

You also need the player you are going to trade, to keep their mouth shut so you can get maximum value.
