I didn't either, until he edited it.

It's his strategy...put up a blank name because he doesn't know who to pick, then let you guys pick so he can be reminded of a player, then claim that player...

smart move.

what's the PER formula?
does PER include defense?

i'd doubt it's able to. it would depend on the defense of those players. i mean if a player averages 30/10/5 and sucks at defense, but a player averages 20/4/4 but is great at defense, who would have the higher PER?
</div>

PER doesn't include defense.

However, if you look at a game log (like those on ESPN.com - play by play), you can get a really good idea that a player played X minutes against opposing player Y, and XX minutes against opposing player YY. Then you compute the PER of those players and you get an idea of what opposing players' offense is against the player in question. So yeah, it can be a good indicator of defense.

How does that account for team defense, pace of play, zone defenses, and the million other variables that could affect these "defensive stats"? I don't think PER measures defensive ability or a player's effectiveness in his role. It's just another stat.

You think opposing players would have a good PER against a lockdown defender?

Superstar players have the highest PERs and they are the ones being played by these "lockdown defenders".

Not every night.

Kobe might shoot 8-21 against a lockdown guy, and his PER against that guy will suffer because of the missed FGA.

This is the 4th time. LEARN TO TELL TIME!

Anyone that goes on the clock after 10:00 pm EST will get until 8:00 am EST the next morning to pick.

JerseyCarter picked at 8:17 pm EST. Therefore Fieldy should have until 2:17 am EST to pick, not 8 am EST.

KC chill. I understand you'd like the draft to move on smoothly and whatnot and it was my fault that I accidently read the rules as "any pick being on the clock past 10PM ET" having time til 8AM EST. And on the 2nd Draft, that is how I run it. I won't let someones time end past midnight, because if they sleep early for some reason and the time ends while they aren't awake or any other strange circumstances, it allows for them to still wake up early and check in the morning.

So my bad.

But please be a little nicer about this, we have three or four guys busting their butts to run this whole thing, and only two of us to run the 2nd Draft, but we do it for you guys. I know ZAE is up til 3AM your guys' time to be able to do things for this draft, and I know that I'm up all night after he goes to bed so I can make any changes in case of the offchance (A very rare one) to edit the threads in case anything happened.

Again I understand your concern and your anxiety (or anxiousness?), but please be calm. We are all working hard for you guys.

i think the people running this have done a great job, they are always active and on as you can see how quickly they update team rosters and update the draft selection. you can't blame them for people taking 6 hours to pick.

my only suggestion is maybe to stress people to make lists more and send them to a moderator if their pick is coming up because IMO if you know your pick is coming up and you know your not going to be able to check in- just letting your time run is being really selfish. It could all be fixed if you just made a list and send to someone running this.

I know you've sent me a list before and I appreciate that, and alot of people in the 2nd draft have sent me lists. And it is all well appreciated and suggested. If not, no big deal, we will proceed.

I don't see how people can put so much into PER when they don't even understand what goes into the calculation of it.

Hey man, my

All calculations begin with what is called unadjusted PER (uPER). The formula is:

So that means I'm better at basketball!

I could come up with a better formula that measures defense too. PER sucks.

I wanted a backup big man, and it was between Sean and Tyrus...and after fiElDy picked...I made up my mind.

I can't believe I didn't notice Louis Williams. I assumed he'd already been taken!

Man, I might have taken him over Beno...

was a really tough choice for me, but I thought Mason was good value here and allows me another option at SF in case Garcia can't get the job done.

It also adds a high flyer to my team.

I'd like to pick someone that's still left.

Anyone want to trade with me? The offer is open as long as this guy is still left.

KK picked at 10:17 PM EST. Cpaw should get until 8 AM EST.

Seriously guys? Again? C'mon.

I believe its because Ly_yng picked (he was skipped), I was skipped, made my pick after the fact, and so kk already had a running clock before I picked. So he picked when he was skipped too.

*sigh* whats times are posted on each persons picks? Because when I posted kk30's pick it was at 9:17. And I can't base it on the time that I see it cause I'm on the West Coast and I may not have seen it when it was posted. Then I have to adjust to East Coast. As of right now, because of cpaw's trip and ZAE's madden rush, I'm running both drafts.

My guess is the mistake that the 9:17 time was central on the forum where I assumed it was Eastern on accident, don't know why it was only this time.

I do appreciate it if you get off my ass about it. I mean I'm glad you aren't cussing at me about it, I really am, but when there is a time discrepancy you merely have to point it out, not add any colorful commentary afterwards.

I'll change it right now for you.
