The age of consent is 16 in OKC. If she was over 16 then what can the league do? Can the league legislate sexual behavior codes? No double anal, no glory holes, no 8 ways??

I should add I find such relationships, if true, to be morally bankrupt. If he were a Blazer I would be angry and sickened.

Dude is already guilty in the court of public opinion. Gonna be hard to shake this off.

If what he was accused of is true, then maybe. Brandishing a firearm can have different definitions in different jurisdictions, but I believe Colorado includes showing a firearm while under the influence of alcohol as part of the crime, and Morant showing a gun at a strip club would seem to fit the bill there. There might not be enough to charge him, because the burden of proof is justifiably higher than, "If the accusations are true". There might also be an underlying legal violation when showing a gun as a passenger in a car, although I don't know for sure.

But with Giddey, assuming the woman is 16 or older (and that 16 is the age of consent!), there's no law being broken that I am aware of even if all the accusations are true.

word on Thunder subreddit is that this happened in CA, where even the law says this is wrong.

The age of consent in California is 18 years old.
This means that anyone under the age of 18 is considered a minor and cannot legally consent to sexual activity. If someone engages in sexual activity with a minor under the age of 18, they can be charged with statutory rape.

I'm confused. I heard he was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with an underaged girl, so I take that to mean she's under 16 in Oklahoma or under 18 in California. Or is this just a case of being uncomfortable that she's only 16-18 even though she was the age of consent?

I guess everyone's presuming there was sex involved, or is the girl or someone close to her saying that?
 
I see the news reports now that she's rumored to be 15.
 
Seems like this is being investigated by the NBA but there doesn't seem to be any legal investigation at this point. Doesn't seem to have been charged with a crime. 18-21 is a weird time. I know I was in college 2 years with a girlfriend who was still in high school. I was 19 with a 17 year old girlfriend. Her parents were well aware of our relationship. That was in the 80's. Seems like girls now are even more promiscuous.

If he had been dating her since he was in HS, she would've been in grade school to middle school aged.

Usually statutory rape cases don’t happen unless the parents or the girl report it, but it’s hard to say with this case. It would require a DA to figure out who the girl is and know that she is in his district. Unless the feds decide to get involved. If he transported her across state lines I think it becomes federal.

Just seems that he made a horrible decision no question. Obviously I have little to no knowledge about how things went down but that girl looks young but maybe doesn't act real young?

I agree. I had a great fake ID (real, just not me) and went to bars regularly from 14+ on. I hit on girls all the time in those years and some technically committed a crime. However, I was never going to turn them in. I wasn't going to do anything but be thankful.
 
Just pointing out that the allegation is that he had a relationship with this girl. Not a one night stand.
 
I went to HS with a smoking hot, over-developed gal. she was a friend. When we were 16, almost 17, she was dating a 20-year old college dude. Honestly, we were a little weirded out with what a 20-year old would want with a 16-year old. The dude was kind and honest enough. I’d have felt weird being the college dude coming to HS sports where people know your age and the other side, but if they in public, nobody would have known any different or suspected the age difference.

they ended up marrying, btw.

not saying it’s right, not saying it’s wrong. this story just brought that experience up.

yeah this happened a lot in the 1950s, but this isn’t the 1950s
