Meh. I guess you could do worse than New Orleans in February.

And before people start chiming in about having it here in Portland: Don't. It. Will. Never. Happen.

So, you're not a believer in global warming then? I figure in a 100 years or so, Oregon will have a nice Mediterranean-type climate and all of the teams from southern states will be looking forward to a break from the hot desert sands.

The source is Woj, so it's probably legit.

Moving it out of Charlotte is the right decision. Good job Adam Silver.
So what's next, not allowing the NBA to play games in Charlotte? Super hypocritical

Maybe no more teams in red states?

If improves our chance of signing fee agents, sure why not? Fuck those southern states, their sunny weather and lack of state income tax.

True, very true, but not much of a factor during the bulk of the NBA season.

No, it's lovely here during the year. I want to say 4 years ago now I played golf on new years day. It was something like 78 degrees. That was certainly not normal, but still. Weather gets good here usually around the third week of the NFL season until the NBA finals or so. Summers are horrible.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. The NBA All Star Game and it's festivities should happen after the NBA championship game. They could make it happen in early June sense there would be no all star weekend.

Basketball is a fucking indoor sport and we STILL can't get an All-Star game.

New Orleans? Again? Really?

Our demographics doesn't fit the NBA all star game. With the way the all star game has exploded this last 10 years or so as far as a de-facto hip hop festival, the NBA all star game wouldn't make sense in a Portland Oregon or a white city like salt lake Utah. That's how Portland is perceived unfortunately..

Drake, Future, etc are not going to be excited to come to Portland. The NBA has to think of the interests of their core fans and market base.

The all star weekend is a colossal joke now anyways. I'd actually feel honored to miss out on the traffic, Kevin Hart camera whoring, and vomitously overpriced tickets all leading up to a 200-175 clownshow score of a game to which even top 20 players aren't necessarily going to be selected.

The city would reap many more benefits than the average Blazers fan though. An event like that would make the local business revenue skyrocket

If the NBA is so serious about making the city/state pay financially then they should just pull the Hornets out of NC altogether. Otherwise it amounts to little more than half-assed grandstanding. That's also why the NBA still does tons of business in places like China. The moralistic self-righteousness must stop after a certain point if dollar signs are in the way.

Its "Black Thanksgiving"

What's that law about ? I mean I know who it's aimed at but what does it says basically ?

It's gonna be Sac. Just watch. they got a new arena and it's prolly no coincidence that Vivek tweeted seconds after the official release by Silver.

Good. Fuck North Carolina (and I say that as a former resident who enjoyed living there at the time).

Yeah, we should make sure and shut down any state that doesn't agree with us. Better yet, we should get the federal government to do it. That would teach them to think independently and put one set of rights above another.

Just thought of this, what if we could detect what people were thinking before they even acted on it. We could develop a protection so people wouldn't have to even hear or such such awful things. We could call them the thought police. Cool.

I'm dubious about the state legislature's intentions. The NBA isn't really about making social statements, but on occasion, it makes sense. It is up to the league to decide where the game gets played. And it's their duty to do what is best for the league.

Pretty large leap from private entity making a choice where it does business and thought police.

Or are you saying the federal government should come in and block businesses from making decisions based on principle as they see it? Maybe one day we could predict the future with great accuracy and punish businesses before they even make those decisions. We could call it Minority Report.

I think large organizations using their money and power to force local people into conforming to their corporate beliefs is wrong. NBA, Twitter, Facebook, executive branch, etc. are trying to force their agendas on the public. I believe what I believe, and do not try and coerce anyone to believe the same way. The NBA feels otherwise.

Most people just look at the narrative in the headlines and never really understand the issues. HB2 was not an "anti-gay" bill and has nothing to do with sexual orientation at all. The people of North Carolina don't think their daughters should be exposed to penises in the girls restroom. As the father of daughters I agree. Now the NBA is telling me that my beliefs are objectively wrong. I don't think it's any of the NBAs business that I don't want penises in the same restroom as my young daughter and I don't want penises in the locker room shower either. I'm such a Luddite.

If you haven't read 1984 then you should. This is just creepy.

That's not what this was about. lol.

Wow, in order to get all that from what I wrote, you must have already think you can read my mind.

Oh, the irony.

I never said one god damn thing about shutting down any state or getting the government involved. Those are 100% your words not mine.

I was not really aiming at you. Sorry about that.

I'm frustrated by the NBA on this. I think basketball should stay out of politics (aside from clear race issues). I'm frustrated because the NBA chose to support the rights of TG men to use women's bathrooms (not neutral bathrooms, nobody objected to that). So now I'm kind of forced to decide if I want to support the NBA and their march on social issues. Basketball should just be about basketball.

Not enough hotels...or whatever the nbas new excuse will be to continue not having Portland host an all star game....you would think in the 65 years the NBA has been doing the all star game, each team would have had a chance to host
