Re: NBA trade rumors

I think Frye wants to make more than our measily $5 million.

I think MM is probably right that Frye would like to play on a better team than the Suns. (Who wouldn't?)

Still not all that interested.

Frye loves phoenix and Portland. He would take the mle to come here if phoenix doesn't pony up more. He could eat up most of the Aldridge and Lopez backup minutes. Is a great scorer off the bench

Re: NBA trade rumors

Frye should stay in Phoenix and make his $6.8M one more season before downshifting to $5M per.

If money doesn't matter, then he's a true Portlandia as advertised.

Re: NBA trade rumors

No we need our scorers to defend. Having some guy off the bench who can play D won't help much. We need the whole team, specifically the starters, to defend better. We need better schemes, a better mindset, and a better effort. One guy off the bench doesn't help that much.

Well stated. Stotts actually said something very similar to this the other night on courtside. Essentially individual defense is nice, but not as key to success as the team working together playing solid team defense.

Re: NBA trade rumors

I'd rather have Trob than Frye. Trob needs all the minutes he can get.

I doubt he'll get more than the $6.8m/year he gave up. I see 4 years/$20m as the best he'll do. Take the security over the vet minimum he'd receive after next year.

He's 31 years old, he's still an atrocious defender, and he has a per/36 rebounding of 6.5. He's not going to get a lot of money per year. PHX may have made the playoffs with a better starting PF.

I like trob, he is just a garbage player. Frye can fill in for lamarcus when he is out of the game and spread the floor. Frye is a great guy and he fits stotts offense much better than trob

IMO neither one is good and we can do better than either, lets aim a little higher as opposed to mediocrity

Re: NBA trade rumors

LMAO @ people thinking we should use our MLE on Frye. I would be hard pressed to even give him the BAE. Talk about the definition of mediocrity. There are plenty of better players to go for than Frye.

The guy had a decent year and fits our offense. Name these better options.... Frye loves it here and would actually listen if we called

Also don't the spurs sign undervalued guys to fit a system? Frye fits stotts system as good as anyone available.

Re: NBA trade rumors

Boris Diaw, Jordan Hill, Chris Kaman off the top of my head

Diaw wouldn't leave san Antonio for us. Hill maybe. Kaman can't stay healthy. I'd sign him to the bae over Frye and be content though

Re: NBA trade rumors

@ESPNSteinLine: Hearing: Knicks have explored possibility of swapping Iman Shumpert for late first-round pick heading into Thursday's draft

DeJuan Blair is another to consider, Jordan Hill is my preference as a PF/C, very good fit IMO with LMA and Rolo

No thanks on Blair. The guy can't jump at all and we don't need another bad knees guy around our team.

I'm just waiting for his knees to implode

Re: NBA trade rumors

Olshey shocks the world and signs Melo! (after dumping salary)

That's my own rumor :)

Didn't they turn down the OKC offer of their first rounder this year for shumpert at the trade deadline?

Re: NBA trade rumors

And that's likely the pick they're going to get in return for Shump.

Shump's knee must be worse than anyone thinks or the price of first rounders is absurd.

He has also regressed every year since his rookie year. His D also slipped last year.

Marc Stein: ESPN sources say Golden State has indeed made Klay Thompson available to Wolves, greatly increasingly Warriors' hopes of getting Kevin Love Twitter @ESPNSteinLine - See more at: http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm#sthash.QT7t0ZMH.dpuf

Sources: in addition to Wilson Chandler and Kenneth Faried, Denver offering Minnesota a player they would acquire (Arron Afflalo) for Love.

Geez! That seems like a joke. Thompson for Love? Warrior don't get better on that deal.

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine 44s
Suns' Channing Frye has 'til Monday to decide to play next season at $6.8 mil w/PHX or opt out. Source: "99 percent" he chooses free agency

Any interest in bringing him back? Just think what he could do in the current offense.

Frye on defense would be fine next to Robinson, and passable next to Aldridge. He's actually a decent post man defender and boxes out well, it's just when he has to step out at all he's a step slow AND he's not a good help defender. Robinson and Aldridge are both good defenders against 4's and can jump out on the pick n roll.

Frye would not play well on defense next to Lopez. Even though it would fit well on offense.

Basically, Frye would be a great b/u to Lopez for about 20 mpg. This time would be split between playing w/Aldridge and Robinson. Either way, he'd be on the outside setting perimeter picks for Lillard (or whoever), which he is top 5 in the NBA at, while the other plays a pick n roll in the mid-range or gets their ass in the post. He would fit like a glove next to Robinson. On defense, he'd simply defend the bigger post guy while the other played some help defense (which Robinson is great at).

I still think it'd be good to grab Kaman, O'neal, or Turiaf, if they understand that they're simply insurance for if Lopez goes down b/c we still need a "true" C next to Aldridge for 15 or 20 mpg.

Re: NBA trade rumors

I like Kamen but he's basically done. He'd have to be our Meyers-role replacement. I like Frye because he's a smart player with a three point shot. Spencer Hawes ain't walking through that door.

Pretty much. And Frye loves Portland. He would listen if we called. My guess is 3 years 15 million would get it done. Which is the going rate for useful backup bigs

Another option could be big baby Davis

Re: NBA trade rumors

Big Baby was surprisingly decent in the playoffs, wasn't he? And he'd come just for the food carts!

but lousy the entire yr, no thx on him, what I like about Jordan Hill is that he will likely cost less than the full MLE, he improved last yr when given good consistent minutes, is still young at 25 and averaged 9.7 PPG (54.9% FG%) and 7.4 rebs in only 20.8 minutes. He's a solid defender as well and a PF/C which IMO would be very nice to have and he can still improve. IMO he is the best (MLE $$ or les)s big available for us for several reasons
