We're 6 weeks away from the NBA Trade deadline (FEB 5th).

Post your ideal trade deadline ideas. Hopefully someone from Cronin's team will see this and elevate the good/realistic ideas to evaluate them in depth.

I'd like to know how much input Dundon is already having...and yes, I'm assuming he has input at this point

Trade some youngsters and draft capital for vets that can shoot the three and defend.

Okay - here's my thoughts:

Trade #1 with OKC
OKC- 2026 1st (worst available, likely Houston ~#25)
for
POR- 2029 1st (worst BOS, MIL, POR)

OKC has 2-3 picks this summer and basically a full roster. They kick the can down the road a few years when the asset can be used better.
*** this trade could also be done with Boston or Detroit instead of OKC ***

Trade #2 with SAC
McDermott, '26 CHA 2nd pick (~40ish), Cardwell (TW)
for
Murray

Sacramento gets Murray to help support his brother. Blazers cut McDermott (and Cooke) to free up space, but get 2 low-level assets

Trade #3 with MIL
Kuzma, min contract (Coffey?), '26 MIL pick
for
Grant, '26 OKC pick

Portland takes advantage of the Bucks desperation. Bucks get a better player (but still not a difference maker), while not giving up long term assets.
Coffey gets cut.
Blazers look to move Kuzma, but if you can't find takers - he's at least playable for 15 minutes a night

Move #4
sign Sidy to min contract.

Other moves-
Look to move Kuzma, Reath, & Williams
Look to re-sign Thybulle

I'm not expecting an in-season trade with two exceptions:

1. The Blazers take advantage of a desperate, win-now team and can pull a Deni-like young talent who just needs an opportunity and change of scenery to emerge.
2. The kind of deal that brought Matisse here, basically getting involved in a deal to facilitate for others and grabbing something for nothing somehow -- might not be a player, but a draft pick or picks.

The Blazers aren't trying to win now. I think, unless you get a desperate partner, there'll be better deals to be made around the draft.

IMO, if OKC wants to kick the can down the road, they don't get an even swap, they have to pay to receive that. I want the Houston pick and an additional pick. Since we can already, roughly, see where the 26 pick is likely to land, and the 29 one we send out still has high variance, they need to throw in one more. Be it Denver next year, or the Philly one as well this year.

I'm fine with #2. I'd maybe keep him around for his shooting, albeit in a very very limited role. But, waiving him is fine as well, as, like you said, we'd convert Sidy.

I like #3. I hate Kuzma, but would take a swing on MIL not passing Houston. Right now it's about a 7 game difference between the two. At the very least, it could be a financial move to shed Grant.

All that being said, I'm not expecting much. Doubt the team punts on Jrue and Grant, even though most of us would like that.

This.

Any trade like the first one with proposed between the Blazers and Thunder would require the Thunder to give up more.

If the Clippers did decide to blow it up and start over, would you be pissed if the Blazers traded for James Harden? Make a playoff push.

Beyond furious. Have to get a good pick. That is so much more important than a first round sweep at the hands of OKC or SAS. I don’t even think Harden would do much to help the team at this point.

While you never completely dismiss talent, I don't know that Harden fits in with the Blazers barring the trade completely remaking the roster. At that, like Cugel said, I don't think adding him puts the Blazers any better than sixth even if everything goes perfectly. Then you're rebuilding in two or three years again.

Without knowing the compensation, I can only almost completely rule it out.

I think you are about 4 1/2 - 5 weeks early. A bunch can change before the deadline. A simple hand injury or a pulled hamstring could change a teams position drastically.
It just doesn't make sense for a GM to really even start considering trades at this point.

By the way- I think Grant will end up a Laker.

The lakers need defense. They might want Toumani. But he wouldnt fetch much

I think we’d be crazy not to offer one of the 3 Mil picks/swaps plus something of Portland’s future (2030/2032) for Trey Murphy. He would combine with Deni and Toumani too well.

If we could make some salary work there, and we outbid anyone else, why not?

I think the price would be way too high:

he's a good shooter but he's not an elite shooter. Over the last two seasons, he's shot 36.2% on three's; and that's a 643 shot sample size. At the same time Avdija has shot 36.5% in a 540 shot sample size

Murphy is a solid two-way player; he's not a lock-down defender by any means but he holds his own. He's an O.K. rebounder and an O.K. passer with good shooting efficiency. But he doesn't create much of his own offense; he needs the team to do that.

IMO, this isn't the profile of somebody a team should pay a high price for. It's also a case that in 5 seasons he's played 90% of his minutes at forward. Between Murphy, Deni, and Camara, which one is the backup?

I think Jrue gets traded to a contender, with late FRP coming back or pick swap. With Houston struggling to keep up with the big dogs I could see that being a great fit.

Grant gets off loaded to team like the Bucks who still think they can still win or a dark horse team like Bulls,Pistons or 76ers

Well I think the Blazers go after an established veteran while keeping the goal of making the playoffs this season. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Scoot gets dealt in a trade along with Grant or Williams.

I still can't get over how many people I see that are so eager to deal Bucks picks for low-level starters or average rotation players. Those picks might be in the lottery at a time when you figure we'll be looking to take on young contracts with high upside.

I get the urge to want to shake up the roster just for giggles, but some of this stuff is what I would expect someone on a Western rival's board to post that they wanted the Blazers to do.
