OT NBA version of NIT

The NITs are kind of funny, in that the NIT "champion" goes home feeling 100x better than a team that actually made the tournament but got bounced out in the first round. But on the other hand, I wonder why they don't do this in pro sports. Not have a full on playoffs, but maybe just a 1 and done series with the bottom half of the league.

I think fans would watch it, the nba would make money off it, and it would give the lesser teams a chance to end the season on a better note.

I like the idea of playing a lotto-team NIT where the winners get a few more lotto balls... nothing major but maybe each game the winner takes one lotto number from the loser, which means the winner gets something like three or four extra numbers, while each loser only loses one number.

I got a better idea. Split the league in two and bring in promotion/relegation. The top league gets the better part of the shared TV money. Top three teams go up, bottom three teams go down. There you go. No more at tanking. Reward success. Punish failure. The end of the season before the playoffs would actually be intesting.

Pay players 1/41 of their nominal season salary for a win, nothing for a loss.
