While it is disappointing, I think you could make an argument for placing the top 3 in any order.

I hope olshey goes into beast mode over the summer because of this slight!

What exactly did San Antonio change from last season? Don't they essentially have the exact same roster? How do you win exec of the year if you don't make any significant changes?

Yeah, while you've gotta respect Buford for staying the course, he hasn't really done anything substantial since obtaining Parker/Ginobli.
And didn't the Suns GM purposefully try to build a shit roster?

Props for getting Lopez on the cheap but other than that, what really worked out? T-Rob for scraps but he hasn't really produced, Mo for cheap but he is 'Bad Mo' as often as he is 'Good Mo'. Dorell Wright has done almost nothing so 3rd seems about right.

Buford is just a lifetime achievement vote. He got Belinelli this year as his major move. Big deal

Lopez alone should have gotten them into the top 2. I don't hate the Phoenix choice though, but they did make a pretty stupid move when they traded Gortat for nothing.

Yep, i find that hilarious. Maybe if they hadn't traded the Polish Hammer away for a guy that wasn't going to play this year due to injury with an expiring contract they actually would have made the playoffs.

I don't understand SA's GM getting 1st. Not because they did bad, but that they didn't do much.

I understand the 2nd place one.

I think Washington's guy should be higher up, for sure. and Miami at 5 is just stupid.

Heh... no Minnesota guys on there. THat's refreshing.

Yeah.... it's amazing how a team that didn't even make the playoffs got so much credit.

I guess you could look at this like an organizational award. I don't have a problem with it and I consider it high praise for Olshey that he finished as high as he did. More important than the accolades and trophies, I'm far more excited that we seem to have a highly competent executive, with a good eye for talent.

Still the worst bench in the league

RoLo was a great get and T-Rob was a nice addition as well, but the draft was a bit of a miss for this year and we have zero front court depth.

3rd is very respectable

I don't feel like he gets enough credit for getting Rolo and Robinson for virtually nothing.

To be fair, this was the worst draft class in the history of the NBA, if you look at the ROY voting. #1 didn't even get a single vote.

Third place in the voting seems like plenty of credit.

Yeah, but what exactly did San Antonio do to deserve that award? I get the Suns because they made some pretty significant moves, but the Spurs are just the same Spurs. That's really the only thing that doesn't make sense to me.

I actually quite like McCollum. With his injury and coming from the Patriot League, this season was lost for him when he couldn't participate in camp.

I think CJ will be a nice piece for us next year. Perhaps he can replace Mo so we can use our MLE on a vet big man or wing defender.

Like I said above, sometimes I think it's more of an organizational award. Racking up the most regular season wins finding a few guys here and there to plug the holes and keep the train rolling without missing a beat is pretty impressive in its own right. Who knows, maybe it was a lifetime achievement award too?

That's my hope too. Nothing against Mo, but I think he hurts us as much as he helps us.

This list is a joke. It's obviously not based on what they did for this season.

NO replacing Mo with a competent back up pg next year would be enough for him to win this award for me (and probably only me).

These awards are voted on by sportswriters, right? Could it be that while they may know their team well or even their conference opponents, they don't understand the league well in general?

If it is sportwriters, the ignorance is an excellent excuse. It's pretty much the bottom of the barrel in terms of journalism.

Pop and Hornacek were 1-2 for coach of the year, and their GMs are 1-2 for exec of the year? Well, who really deserves the credit for their teams' "overachieving"? Did the coach do an incredible job with the pieces available? Then the GM didn't really do anything special. Is it really a well-built roster? Then the coach simply did what he should have done with what he was given. Logically, they shouldn't both be overly praised.

Unless they work for the Blazers, that is.

Yeah, I really feel like our team isn't getting enough credit for what they achieved.

We didn't have *that* much cap room and when you go from historically the worst bench in the NBA last season to what we have now, I think that's respectable. I probably would have given the award to Olshey. The Spurs did the smart, but easy thing, by staying the course. Phoenix was trying to tank, it just so happened that those moves worked out well for them. You can't sleep on getting a 1st Round pick for Gortat as the Polish Hammer was a UFA after this season. He also fleeced Indiana, getting Green, Plumlee, and a First for Scola. But Olshey acquired a Top 10 center for literally nothing and added a Top 5 Lottery Pick, in Robinson, for nothing. And as much criticism as Mo Williams gets, he's still a steal at 2.5 million and was not signed to a long-term deal. Dorell Wright's had his moments this year as well. Don't forget he picked up CJ McCollum in the draft, who I think will eventually be a Top 5 player from that class. I can't think of anything Olshey missed on given the cap room and resources. We may not have a perfect bench, but it's still an improvement over last season. Lastly, we went from 33 wins to 54 wins and I attribute nearly all of that to the addition of Lopez. RoLo turned LA into a monster, shored up the glass, and has been been a fan favorite since Day One.

My Vote:
1 - Olshey
2 - McDonough

Yeah, I really feel like our team isn't getting enough credit for what they achieved.

Honestly, who cares? You get respect by winning. Until then, I couldn't care less what others think of us. Sheesh, let's try letting go of high school, shall we?

As do I, but next year doesn't count for votes this year

This is a difficult award to hand out since it takes time for some moves to show results. The case for Buford could be made since I believe the Spurs have been able to be successful without paying the luxury tax. He turns players that other teams have given up on and makes them valuable. Hard to say if it is him or Pop that deserves the credit though.
