Interesting. Would be a huge get, I've wanted him on the Blazers for years. Says winning is a priority over money.

Huge get for sure. Is there a way to make it happen dollar wise? Waive Roy, but then what?

Camby and Wallace for Nene and something?

Just as long as the contract isn't too big. Remember, he has knee issues as well.

In the short-term he'd make the Blazers relevant again.

He's saying he wants to win, right? From his point of view Den-> Por has to be a lateral move. My initial reaction was Miami. But damn, it would be awesome indeed.

How would Denver to Portland be a lateral move? Him with Felton, Matthews, batum, Wallace and LMA, or him, Miller, Gallinari, Afflalo and Birdman. That's not equal.

True. I hope he sees it that way as well.

Edit: As opposed to going to a team with recent championships, a team with a track record of winning, or a team with big stars (which theoretically could equal success).

Nene is a very good defensive player. Would be sweet to add to the team. But, what would the cost be? Likely a lot.

If he wants to come here I would do two things to make it happen. Amnesty Roy and withdraw the qualifying offer from Oden (if possible) to make the financials work. I don't know if that gets us close, but Roy's 15 million plus the 8.8 due Oden sure seems like it could help.

Nene paired with LMA, Wallace, Felton, Batum and Wesley actually makes our top six players a worthy rotation.

I would obviously consider trading one of Wesley, Batum, or Wallace for him. Wasn't Denver rumored to be interested in Batum before?

I can see why he doesn't want to return to Denver, they lost one of their best players in Chandler, will also be without KMart or JR Smith, and seemed to overachieve at the end of last season with lesser talent. It would be a pleasant surprise if Portland was an acceptable destination for him, I'm not used to hearing about that from free agents.

That would be a freakishly good defensive team. Possibly best defense in the NBA.

Problem is, we get the stop and can't score on the other end. No closer.

I don't see a problem with scoring in that lineup. Nene is good for 13 or 14 points a game, which would be more production than we've got out of starting C for a while. He also doesn't take a high volume of shots. He led the league in FG% last year. Definitely not the rebounder that Camby, or Joel were though.

I think a lot of people are going to be eating crow on Felton. He was playing AS caliber ball for NYK last year when he had a go to guy in Stoudemire. He has that now with Aldridge. He's also a gamer, willing to take the big shot.

I could get used to seeing plays like this to Aldridge and Wallace:

Broken down Roy doesn't give us a closer either.

Can you post a link kind sir? This is not on Marc Spears twitter at all about blazers being interested in Nene.

A little new to be making such demands don't you think?

thank you...

although sounds like speculation since he used "figured to have interest"

Yeah that's a quite a bit less than "Blazers are interested" but if they aren't interested then their problem(s) are obvious

I guess it's just me, but I think Nene is an overall average center. He will demand max money and he's just not worth it.

He won't get a max contract, he's not "average" and he's probably worth whatever sub-max contract he ends up getting.

My only gripe with Nene is that he's a very average (at best) rebounder.

Btw, Houston has a very good shot at Nene. They are really high on him, apparently.

This could make Chuck Hayes more available to the Blazers (RFA).

The Blazers traded Bowie for Buck Williams and it worked out pretty well.

Nene is no Buck, but would take his production over what we have been getting from Greg.

Would send Camby to Denver if we were to make a deal. Like our core and would rather not disrupt it.

About the only way I see this working is some kind of sign-and-trade. Camby & a draft pick?

According to Ken Berger, he's not interested in Portland. I mean, why would he be? The only offer we will have is an MLE that will push him into a role player type role. For a guy that is used to starting, this is a very unattractive offer.

Likewise, to other free agents, the Blazers appear to have a shaky line-up. Because of this, they won't find it in their best interest to play for a team that doesn't guarantee them a specific role. They don't want to be the player that gets tossed around when Oden comes back or play behind Aldridge, Mathews, and Felton. It's always an "IF" with the Blazers; nothing is secure. That's not a good selling point to a customer.

And so, that's the dilemma of cutting Roy....While you'll have more money, free agents are reluctant to join because of the shaky line-up. And despite Roy's injuries, he still is the face of the franchise and if you cut off the face (no GM too), you'll become a less attractive destination especially for those key guys who don't mind taking a secondary role.

They could get a better deal than that since our draft picks are usually so-so.

I bet a Batum & Camby package could get it done.

why would batum an d camby get it done? they have gallinari as the centerpiece of their carmelo package. now another sf?
