I know everyone is talking about signing a big name or big athelete power forward in the off season, but what about through the draft? According to records, the Nets would have the 11th pick today, and there are some promising pick ups at that point. Question is, do the Nets draft on talent, or need?
A skilled and athletic powerforward? A defensive 2 or 3? A future smart point guard for the future?
PFs around the Net's Pick
I like Ike Diogu at the PF spot. He dominates in the Pac-10 at his position, very talented and fundamentally sound big man. Scores in a variety of ways, rebound ferocious, and can block shots.
I hear Chris Taft is really an explosive player, who is tought and has a knack for rebounding and blocking shots. Would be nice to have a super athletic super energy guy at the 4 spot.
Sean May's name is everywhere now. I think he'll definitely be there when the Net's pick comes around. He looks like a player who will do anything for his team, and he's definitely skilled, knows how to use his body, and can rebound excellently. He's also showed some running skills, but he looks pretty tired out there sometimes in the NCAA. This could be exploited even more when he has to start guarding PFs, esp NBA ones.
PGs
Deron Williams has been great, and many compare him to Jason Kidd. He might not fall low enough for the Nets to grab him, but there are a lot of talented players in front of him. He can control tempo and make smart passes, even if they're aren't too flashy. However, it always seems to me that he's the slowest guard/forward on the floor. It also seems like he could get in the lane if he wanted to, but he doesn't seem to do that a lot. Maybe he really can't? A great defender.
Jarrett Jack is guy who embodies qualities that everyone wants in a point guard. Just not a star point guard. He's a lock down defender, passer with great court vision, and does everything a point guard needs to do, including scoring when needed. Smart player who always seems to improve on past weakness, likely that he has a great work ethic. Another possibilty for the Nets, a team who doesn't really have a back up point guard or one for the future.
