As much as people might disagree with me, I don't think this is a good move by the Nets. Cliff is 38 years old and has two seasons leaft in him MAX including this one.

Although the picks they gave up were 2nd Rd., the trade exception is very valuble in future trades. They are not going far with or without Robinson, and if they make the playoffs they'd get knocked out fairly early in the post season.

I wouldn't like it if I were a Net fan.

I would. His contract is up at the end of the season, so it's worth the bargain. He's a very good defensive player, and that's what they need, he can also score. I like this deal for the Nets and GS. He was suspended for violating their drug policy, and he wasn't making the playoffs for the 2nd time in is career, so they had to get him out of there. Plus, GS gets to play their young bigs more.
 
Cliff's contract comes off at the end of the season and the trade exemptions will be gone at the end of the season (if I am correct). It is a decent pick up.

Correct, the trade exemptions have to be used within a year. And Cliff does have one more year remaining on his deal, but its the team's option, and I wouldn't expect it to be picked up.
I like this deal for Jersey. Before the drug thing this year, Robinson had never been in trouble, always been on winning teams and they didn't give up much to get him. Yeah, he's old, but I don't think they're expecting him to play 30+ minutes.
 
Still, I wouldn't give 2 2nd rounders for him.
 
Actually it wasn't substance abuse, he missed checking in to his parole officer for a DUI he had when he played for the Suns.

The Nets and Warriors both benefit from the trade. The Nets were desperate for inside help and they addressed it by adding Cliff Robinson. He will make an immediate improvement on the Nets interior and could be the missing piece to get them into the playoffs. After the All-Star Break, the Nets will have one of the more favorable schedules for their division. They will have 16 home games and 13 road games, while most of the other teams have less home than away games in the division. Vince Carter has been playing like the VC of old, and Jason Kidd wills his team to win close games. The Nets are only 3.5 games out of the 8th spot and have won 7 out of their last 10 games. They still have a great shot at winning the Atlantic Division and being a #3 seed in the playoffs. With homecourt advantage and Jason Kidd, the Nets could surprise a lot of teams.
 
Not a bad trade for both teams indeed. Nets are making that playoff push and Cliff would give them an extra big man that can also shoot 3's. The Warriors aren't really headed anywhere and would have lost him out to free agency anyways so they get money and 2 future second rounders. GSW was looking to get younger so I would say that the trade couldn't get better than that for Cliff.

Good trade for both teams.

Why not? He's one of the best big man defenders in the NBA, even at the age of 38. He'll give you 10+ points a night, and for a team in need of a PF, who can guard other elite bigs, and grab some boards, this is a bargain.
 
all in all a good deal for both teams. Nets got to use up their trade exception (when exactly does it expire? this season?), and got some help up front. We have some big guys, but they aren't actually the best defenders out there. Hopefully he'll out nenad. GSW also gets 2 first rounds, very good deal for them as they are going no where this year, and they are basically rebuilding.
 
the nets could give up 2 rounders. they no longer need a big man. they have now krstic collins campbell smith and robinson. so i thought it was a good trade
 
a definatley a positive move for nets to climb there way to the playoff.. they needed a inside player and big men
 
We needed some low post on the ball defense, Collins & Krstic stay in foul trouble trying to guard quality 4's & 5's. And Jabari isnt that defensive minded. And with Nenad starting to hit the hidden rookie wall a bit comes a bigger need for another quality big to provide minutes something Elden Campbell wont provide consistently, so that makes this a decent move by us. Yes, you never want to give up picks even 2nd rounders, but in this case it had to be done since the Nets arent conseeding the season. And looking to make a serious playoff run this year. We definetly still dont have what it will take to get past a Detriot or Miami, but we are insuring a chance to stay in the race for a playoff spot for the next 30 games.
 
it's also a good show by the organization (or at least rod and ed) that they aren't giving up on new jersey and their fans.
 
Finally, I wont have to skwirm when I see the opposing teams throw the ball to thier big men. Not only that, but Kristic will not have to suffer as much torture due to the team looking for a offence from a bigman.
 
Cliff is a very good fit for your team in my opinion. He is a lock down defender on nearly any post player in the East (obviously not Shaq) and can score in bunches. He played with Kidd for 2 years with Phoenix and the two of them operate well together. He's a consumate pro and will provide some frontcourt leadership down the stretch. He has a reasonable team option for next year, too.

One concern I might have, however, is rebounding. At 38 he has no elevation and not much of a nose for the ball. Robinson starting at the 5 was a big part of the reason that Troy Murphy was averaging 15+ rebounds/game for the Warriors in stretches this season. People like Collins and Kristic, along with Carter and Kidd from the backcourt, are going to have to step up big time in that department.

thanks for the insightful analysis, this is definitely a good deal for both teams, which makes me happy especially since they're in different conferences.
 
Worst rebounding big man ever, but he'll give some scoring, good defense, and an interior presence, he'll definately help the Nets.
 
this is a guy who at 37 garnett said was the best man to man defender in the league
 
Cliff spent most of his time on the perimeter gaurding guys so it has limited him from getting boards. That skews it a bit, but he is still a bad rebounding big man. He'll definitely help us out with defense and stretching the defense. If he can give hte nets 20 good minutes off the bench, I say the Nets have a chance at the playoffs. Who knows, maybe even the second round, with RJ back? Perhaps I'm getting too far ahead of myself. In my opinion, it really rests on Carter continuing to be the offensive juggernaught that he has been. He can't let up at all and has to bring it every night. We know Kidd will, but it's on the shoulders of Carter now.

Earlier in his career he played the 3 (back in his Portland and Phoenix days), but in recent years he has played mostly 4 and 5, and will probably play the 4 in New Jersey. Despite having his butt thoroughly grounded in the paint defending centers for us this season, he almost never came up with the ball. He does spend a lot of his offensive minutes on the perimeter though.

He'll easily be able to contribute 20+ minutes off the bench or as a starter. Besides a stiff back, the guy is in remarkable shape for being 38. He's said he wants to play into his 40's, and because of his light frame, I think he can probably do it.

I personally think this is a good pick up. Getting him to the team brings a veteran and a good defender.
