I think those players would be useful for the Nets, if they could get Haywood for Nenad + 2nd rounder I think it would help them.

But for Ely or Varejao, I wouldn't include Nenad in any deal.

Are you serious? We giving away a better player, and a 2nd rounder. I don't think it's a good deal.

Yea, you might be right. I just always thought Haywood was a banger-like guy that the Nets could use.

Haywood currently plays 54% the number of minutes Nenad is, but is putting up 33% of Nenad's ppg, 73.5% of Nenad's rpg, and 150% of Nenad's bpg.

I think with a pass-first pg like Kidd, and a good passer in Carter, Haywood's ppg would increase a lot.

I think it would be great if the Nets could acquire Haywood without giving up Nenad.

Those are some average players who could fit in with the Nets.

Ely Deal Not Likely

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Melvin Ely's contract situation with Charlotte makes him difficult to obtain. If the Nets are searching for frontline help, they will likely have to look elsewhere as Ely has a one-year deal and his Bird rights would be lost if he is dealt</div>

Haywood is not a scorer, his PPG wouldn't increase a lot playing with the Nets, and the Nets should definately not trade a younger better Krstic for him.

Even with Kidd, Carter, and Jefferson getting him open looks?

Haywood would give you the same problems Collins give you. He doesn't run the floor well, and doesn't play with energy on defense unless he gets touches.

The Nets are better off acquiring Ely or Varejao, those two can run the floor and take advantage of their speed in the fastbreak offense.

I'm sure the Nets can get Ely for cheap, he's getting no PT in Charlotte. Varejao will cost you more, and I doubt Cleveland is looking to move him.

Ely for a 2nd Round pick sounds about right.

^^ The only thing about Ely is that if he stays with the Bobcats they retain his Bird rights.

If he is traded the Bird rights are lost. (You were right about players getting traded, Bird rights are lost if they aren't there for 3 consecutive years)

I really want Varejao on the Nets. He is a great hustle player and has average defense.

I don't think Bird Rights would be an issue for the Nets. When Ely was a free agent this past summer, he didn't warrant much interest, and there's no guarantee he'll fit in with New Jersey in the first place.
