another 3 year+ deal</div>

Why's that?
</div>

well rj was 15 mill but adding yi 4 mill then najera 3 mill then dooling 3 mill thats 10 right there

+ the rooks

+ who knows if they will add more

pretty much over the 15 mill from rj now lol
</div>

wow! where did you get your degree in accounting?!
</div>

lol at you are u retarded? thats like 10 mill for yi, najera, dooling for same year as rj's last year...+ the rookies by 2010 we currently right at the 15 or even over it.

I think it is going to be a 2-1 for 1 deal with the two Williams. KVH and Swift don't give to much value besides their contracts. I say try and work out something for a guy like Al Harrington

Well no actually the KVH contract is a great trade piece, because the buyout is like 500,000 dollars or something, but it dosen't count towards the cap.

so excited about this (potential) deal. let's keep in mind, it's still not 100%. don't want to jinx it or anything.
and I wonder...will he wear #5? hmm.

Holy crap. I love this signing now. Check out the amended terms of the deal:
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>An eight-year veteran, Dooling would be acquired by making use of a $3.3 million trade exception the Nets obtained in the Jason Kidd deal last February. That will now be transferred to the Magic, who will prepare a two-year contract that calls for a $3.3 million salary next year and a $3.5 million salary for 2009-10, with a partially-guaranteed third season that will pay him a pittance.[</div>
Source: Star Ledger, July 18th.

If the third year is a Team Option, this is a terrific signing.

Although, one can't help but wonder how good this team would've been if they hadn't given away RJ.

18 Players with contracts now (including Van Horn). I wonder what moves will be made, but I'm betting they are all just give-aways Camby style i.e. Marcus Williams and/or Ager for the rights to swap 2nd round picks

Decent signing. I'm one of the few that thought Marcus could prove his worth this year but I guess he won't be able to show it.

think so?

God tell me Marcus has not been traded especially for a scrub in Kenyon Dooling.

You seem to be unaware of the difference between investing money in one player and investing a similar amount in many. Unless you're saying you agree with Kidd, and you think the entire 2010 team should consist of Lebron and Harris.

Worse.

And they didn't give away anything.

Only one guy has played like a scrub in that trade, and it's not Dooling.

Wow. I'm almost speechless. Great signing, I hope this goes through!

Cheers to Thorn & Kiki for doing a great job so far! Best off-season in a VERY long time IMHO.

Well, according to that source, all it's lacking right now is league approval, which will basically be going over the contracts and making sure the deal works cap-wise, which it will. So it's just a matter of time, but the point is, it's no longer specualtion. The wheels have been set in motion, and in a few days, Keyon Dooling will be a Net.

I guess a lot of Nets fans see him complimenting Vince Carter well, but outside of that, I don't like the signing. An undersized two-guard or a pass-first point guard? Either way, Dooling's not really adding much to this current roster that's loaded with scorers on the wing. They needed to go after a playmaker.

I'm glad we have him on the team! (no sarcasm intended) we need someone feisty and willing to get down and dirty

Dooling is a terrific player to have on your bench. Absolutely fantastic move. All that's left to do is to trade Marcus for a couple tickets to The Dark Knight and it will be a very good summer.

I don't get the hate on Marcus. He's not a cancer, he was never in playing shape and he got seriously injured last year.
All of his problems stem from his lack of maturity. Not some, ALL. Worst thing that can happen is he'll come off our books after this year. Boo hoo.

Calling for the head of a 22 year player who makes $1.2M in this league is just retarded.

I think most of us are not calling for his head.

But we still have needs, and he could be a valuable trade asset, as a lot's of teams need pointguards. Marcus still has potential to become starter quality.

But he would not get much playing time here next season, since he would play behind Harris and Dooling. His trade value (as low as it is now), will probably not get any higher this season, if he stays here as a 3rd stringer.

Actually I think the same thing about Sean and Boone.
at PF Sean would probably have Yi, Najera, and maybe even Anderson ahead of him on the depth chart.
at C Boone would also be a 3rd stringer behind Krstic and Brook.

They are still young and had pretty good seasons. The best way to go might be trading them now.
And don't forget they weren't acquired by Kiki. Sometimes GMs like to clean out the players who were brought in by the previous GM.

I would never trade Boone because he has shown he can produce in the league. that means more to me than all the "potential" that marcus and sean have.

I agree, i'd keep Boone out of these 3 too.
he does not have the "potential" of the other two, but he can be a nice 3rd string C or PF.

He wasn't signed for his offense, he was signed for his defense. This is exactly what they needed. This is Frank's kinda guy.

Besides, what playmaker is there to go after? Couldn't Marcus do the same thing that this playmaker you have in mind could do?

Especially since, with some more players who can score, Marcus won't have to take on a scoring guard role - maybe he could actually focus on passing. Meanwhile, Keyon could take on Marcus's role last season - which he's better at anyways.
