Yuck. Why the hell are they so interested in Jermaine? Is it the one less year on the contract? Is it the injury-plagued-ness? Is it the fact that he'll take away minutes from the youngsters?

I'm wondering if Rod Thorn knows what the hell he's doing at all. We're already shot to hell at the wings, and have the perfect amount of depth at the big man positions - Why the hell would we need to screw that up??

I think the Mike Miller trade scenario is a precursor to the O'neal trade.
Honestly though I hate the idea of trading for O'neal. One, I like our bigs and two, we'd have to give up Vince, Nenad and Marcus or Sean in order to make the salaries work. That's just to much.

I could handle Vince and Nenad for O'neal...but adding Marcus or Swat seems to be too much.

My biggest complaints about this are the following:

-We are already thin at the SG position.
-Injury-prone
-Means less time for our young bigs also our frontline is fine.

If we can trade Carter+filler for Jermaine+a SG, I'll be somewhat satisfied.

Jermaine O'neal's contract is up at the end of 2009...Carter's is up at the end of 2012. That's a three year differnce. If healthy O'neal is a 20 and 10 guy who can be absolutely dominant.

I don't think the trade is meant to clear cap space, as a Carter/Collins for JO trade would had worked. Can't trade Swift now. And unless you are sure JO is healthy, after losing Carter, why trade for Miller?

Miller is a solid SG averaging 17 a game...if O'neal is healthy he helps us in the playoffs. Miller has a reasonable contract and would be in my opinon a solid player for this team.

If Jermaine isn't healthy by the deadline than we pass and reevaulate in the offseason...If Vince continues to improve than his stock will rise and perhaps a better deal comes along. I don't necessarily care about the O'neal deal...if it happens I'm cool with it but I won't sweat it if it doesn't. I do want the Mike Miller trade to happen.

And I think most likely he's unhealthy...however I'm not sure if he's really injured or if he's nursing it because he's fed up with the Pacers.

Dunno where you're getting your contract information, but Jermaine's ends in 2009, and Vince's ends in 2010 with a team option for 2011.

One important positive for trading Carter for 1 less year would be the fact that it would give us more flexibility with re-signing Boone, just in case he gets even better.

Oh yeah, and for the record, I still doubt very much this trade ever happens. O'neal's knees suck, and you know how Thron is with bad knees. That's not gonna happen.

Ok my bad I thought it was a player option for the fifth year...Still Carter signed a 4 year contract with a team option 5th year...which means his contract ends in 2011...with a team option for another season. Simple math 4+2007=2011. So the Jermaine O'neal deal would still save us two years.

It depends if the Nets have another first round pick. I thought they did when I posted this.

I still think Granger is worth RJ and a pick.

If both deals go through, I think the Nets would finish around .500 and make the playoffs easily.

Murphy's contract is still poison and Jefferson is the 6th leading scorer in the NBA.

The Nets' pick also has a great chance to be in the lottery.

wait, hold on, i just reveiwed that thoroughly, its basically a granger for RJ and a pick swap? i thinks that pretty bad, might as well keep the pick and try out chances in the lottery. murphy and shawne arent going to be contributors or help in the future

It depends if the Nets have another first round pick. I thought they did when I posted this.

I still think Granger is worth RJ and a pick.

If both deals go through, I think the Nets would finish around .500 and make the playoffs easily.

Gotta give the Pacers some incentive to trade their best player.

Taking Murphy back is a little incentive, but not quite enough.

Considering Granger is shooting 40% from behind the arc, has as many blocks as Kevin Garnett, is playing all-NBA type defense and has missed two FTs in the last month, perhaps now is not the time to approach the Pacers about dealing him.

But it never hurts to ask...
