Wright has to be feeling great, after seeing this.

agreed they will be big parts of our bench next season

Wright's had 3 season to prove his mettle. Hasn't shown a thing. This is only the 3rd for Williams and Boone.

this has nothing to do with wright. wright got picked up for his 3rd year too. plus you knew it was coming. wright has had plenty of time to impress management and give them reasons to pick him up for a 4th year but he hasnt done that yet. he should view his situation as a way to really make himself money. he now has a chance to sign a nice contract if he has a career year this year instead of being locked in at a certain number for next year even though it would have given him job security. if marcus, josh and wright were all from the same year and marcus and josh got pickedup for the 4th year and wright didnt they i could see wright being a little upset but he was given a 3rd year as marcus and josh have now been given.

yeah, and I think there is a big salary increase if that fourth year option is picked up--i suspect the nets would be willing to have him back at, say, a 10% increase over this year. He's getting around $1.7 million this year, and the option was around $2.5 million, which would be around a 50% increase in salary. We should all be so lucky.

Of course, both of them will be our solid players for the next 10 years.

Plenty to do with Wright. They won't pick up his option for next season, yet they will for 2 players who aren't as experienced and haven't contributed enough to the team.

Whatever, I'm wrong with everything. Sorry for trying to make a point.

Is Wright a restricted free agent at the end of the season?

Unrestricted.

Wright has sucked the past 2 years. He has shown nothing. He isn't consistent. Combine this with the Nets salary structure for next season, it's lux tax city. Wright was going to pull in 2.5 million. Having already invested about 25 million at the wing spots, the Nets will probably try to fill the backup role with a cheaper player. It could be Wright.

Marcus Williams and Boone had their 3rd year option pick up.....after their rookie seasons and Boone's preseason, it was a given. Wright has had brilliant offseasons and done nothing during the season. This was going to be Wright's 4th season salary, given what he has done, Nets took the safe route. It's part business and part roster structure next season.

How many minutes should Boone get this season..? More than Magloire and Krstic?

Boone will not get more than Krstic or Magloire. I can seen Boone 10-15 average. He will get more in 08-09, Magloire should be gone, Allen may seek a bigger deal after proving his worth this season. That's 2 bigs out, leaving us with Collins, Krstic, Williams and Boone. Boone should be getting more minutes in his 3rd season.

Not even with Krstic's injury? And his expectance of less minutes early on?

He's a young, energetic and athletic player. He should be able to give the Nets some good rebounding numbers this year.

Well just read that Krstic and Collins will start. No restrictions on Krstic, Krstic will be the coach on himself. But given this is an 82 game season, when it all shakes out I can see Krstic and Magloire get more time than Boone.

Wright has proven he's a hard worker and has become a very very good defender. Is he worth 2.5 Mil? No friggin' way. Especially seeing as we could probably bring him back for less or even draft his replacement this summer. It's the same thing management did with Cliffy. Why overspend when you can probably keep the player for less and use that cash saved on another player who can help. Armstrong is only a 1 year rental, the money saved from not picking up Wrights option could go towards getting a 3rd string pg next season as well as pay our other FA's.

I read somewhere that we are at 57 million on 8 players for next season. Kidd, Marcus, RJ, VC, Krstic, Collins, Williams, Boone. So we have about 10 million to spend on 4-6 players. 2.5 for Wright would have been nice if he could put in 24 minutes a night 9-10 points in addition to his defense. Nets would probably have picked up the option. Quite possibly that rookie wing we sign (knock on wood, no injuries), may be the wing behind RJ and VC next year. 2 year minimum deal. Who knows we may resign Wright at a discount. Being under the tax, gives us a lot of options to work with. After 09, Kidd's contract comes off the books, opening up even more room. In hindsight Thorn's really done a good job keeping us competitive while not killing our salary structure.

what the hell? so i post a reply that disagrees with your point and then you act like i told you to stfu? the bottom line is that wright had his 3rd year picked up as did josh and marcus just now. your not going to decline marcus and josh after a rookie year. wright has had his time to impress the nets enough for them to pick up his 4th but he hasnt shown he is worth that money. im sure the nets like him to some extent, but picking up marcus and josh i dont think should make wright feel insulted or anything. its easier for one player to contribute more when hes around longer and when josh was on the shelf and the bench for a good part of the year. wright didnt exactly light the league up in his rookie year nor last year.

I pretty much think that you have to pick up on MWilliams and Boone at this point.

LOL at you catching feelings.

You are just as sensitive as Gerry McNamara was when I told him I ordered onion rings in my value meal instead of fries and he threw a hissy fit!

They picked up Wright's third year option, so those guys are in the same boat he was last season.

To respond to your question, I think Boone's minutes will ultimately be determined by injuries . . . if everyone's healthy, I suspect that he'll start with around 12-16 minutes a night, depending on his effectiveness and the effectiveness (and foul trouble) of his teammates. Someone will get hurt, though. At some point he'll get a chance to play 25 minutes or more over a two or three week period.

Let's hope he makes good when he gets those big minutes. I could see him becoming important to us this year, sooner or later. If we're ever without Collins or Magloire, he'll become extremely important to us, to fill in for the defense we'd lose with losing either big man (which is likely/possible).

I get the impression that Collins is often hurt, but sucks it up for the good of the team instead of taking some time off. I wonder though--given the depth of the team this year, will he be more willing to rest when he needs it?

Am I the only one who's surprised that he played the bulk of the 4th quarter and overtime with 5 fouls, managing to lock down Gordon?
