Nets Promote Polinsky
September 24, 2008, 9:58 am

The Nets announced Wednesday that Gregg Polinsky has been named director of player personnel, a new position. Polinsky has been with the Nets since 1999 and was the team’s director of scouting for the past three seasons. Before joining the Nets, he was a college coach for 18 years. Polinsky provided analysis of draft prospects on the Nets’ website this spring.

This is a significant development. It's not so much about Polinsky...although he is now the No. 3 in the organization, behind Thorn and Vandeweghe. Nets didnt have a player personnel director. Now, they do, further emphasizing the role of building from within, rather than the Nets' previous strategy of big contract starters and patchwork benches. So, player development is an increasingly big deal for the Nets and Frank has been criticized for not developing players. Polinsky has 18 years of college coaching experience.
