They are pursuing that as well, with Andres Nocioni being one of their primary targets. The veteran forward is available, GMs throughout the league confirm, for one reason: Chicago needs to slash payroll in order to give Luol Deng the $55-60 million to re-sign. Though Nocioni has four more years left on his contract, the numbers descend (from $8.0M to $6.6M), and he could be a catalytic practice element the Nets need in their gym.

Dude has 4 years 35+ mill left on his contract why trade RJ if you gonna bring in this guy? If they get him I quit

Here's why.

Four years and $35 million is a lot easier to move than three years and $42 million. But read Iannazzone and Garcia this morning. They wanted rid of Jefferson because they considered him "selfish", that he was, as D'Alessandro reported earlier, "all about Richard."

Nocioni would be an ideal sixth man on this team. Plays hard, plays defense, can shoot the three.

The reason is because his contract goes down every years, RJ went up for one he is due 8 mill Rj was due like 13 mill., and Rj was selfish, and jealouse, Nocioni can start or come off the bench, and he is a hustle player with scoring skills.

Also Nocioni can play both forward positions... i like his competitiveness. Also it says his salary goes down... so by the 3rd and 4th year of his contract he's only making 7.2 mil and 6.6 mil or something like that... so thats affordable and i think he would be a good piece on the team to have to lure lebron in. I hope this trade goes through, we can use his veteran competitiveness as he is hard nosed and a great defender at that.

than kiss any chances at lebron, amare, wade, bosh out the window cause of Andres freakin' Nocioni

thats not necessarily true... we also need players to convince lebron that we can win a championship.. and he's worth the money at that point of time. He's a good influence to our young players. and im sure thorn and kiki have looked into it very thoroughly as they are making sure we have enough money to target lebron with the strict 2 year rule for free agents.

Fixed it for you

I see him as a major upgrade over RJ but I am leery of his propensity to overact coupled with the league's new eagle eye on flopping. Nocioni does have a major competitive streak in him and get T'd up as fast as anyone but we need that kind of injection in our squad. Frank will love him and he could really be a difference maker if he embraces the situation because he will get a chance to be a big part of this team.

I think RJ will be pissed if he finds out that Andres toke his spot on the nets, they hate each other!

I can't believe the idiots running the Nets were smart enough to replace RJ with Nocioni, get a stud prospect in Yi and still have enough cap flexibility to trade for LeBron.
If they get Noc, the team is significantly better than last year.

Yep...those guys are going to come running to Brooklyn or Newark or E. Rutherford to play for a team with 25 wins.

ITS TWO YEARS AWAY. NO ONE CAN PREDICT WHAT WILL HAPPEN.

(Sigh) If they had only given Diop $31 million.

Show your math before making a claim like that

Maybe they aren't quite as dumb as you believe them to be?

In any event, I think Nocioni would be a terrific addition at the three. I hate him as an opponent but would love him on my team with his pesky, in-your-face, all-the-time defense.

Man, the reasons to do this deal keep piling up.

There's no way we're blessed enough as a team to somehow turn Diop, Krstic, Marcus Williams and a pick into Andres Nocioni. That would be AWESOME.

Although, the Nocioni-Carter interactions could be... interesting. I just got my fingers crossed. That would be an awesome problem to have.

IF we do actually trade for Noc, Boone (or Krstic in a S&T?) is most likely part of any deal. Him and/or a first round pick. And probably KVH or Swift. We aren't getting him for nothing. And I would trade Boone because it helps us avoid the contract extension that summer 2010. Rather get something now then get nothing later.

As our team stands right now, there's a GREAT chance of the following people being on NJ team for the start of 2011 season:

Carter / $17.55M
Harris / $8.4M
Yi / $3.37M
Brook / $2.41M
Sea / $2.09M
Ryan / $1.41M
-----------------------
Total: $35.22M

Most of these are no brainers, unless Carter gets traded.
Harris should be a bargain at less than $10M for the following 4 years.
Yi will draw revenue for the team like no one else.
Brook seems to be a promising center. There's about a 99% chance that NJ picks up his option for 10/11.
Ryan is in the same situation as Lopez, except he's actually cheaper.
Sean is probably the most promising player on NJ. Unless he gets included in a trade to bring another big name to NJ, expect him to be on NJ.

Which basically means that we'll have $35M tied up in 6 players. Since we are rebuilding, there's a very good chance that we keep our picks on 2009 and 2010.. plus we have Mav's 2010 selection. We'll probably be a mediocre team (barring a major trade) the next 2 years, which puts us between 10th and 20th pick. On average, let's say $1.5M/yr salary for the draft pick. The salary goes up by around $0.5M from year to year.. So a 2009 pick will be making ~$2M at 2010. They'll also probably get 1 other draft pick, either acquire someone else's 1st rounder in 2009/2010, or they'll use Mavs' 2010 pick... Let's say there's a 50% chance of either happening. Which is also another $1.5M salary.

Which gives us at about $5M in extra salaries by the time 2010 off season comes rolling around... which brings us up to $40.22M. If we get Nocioni, he makes $7M in 2011, which brings our total to $47.22M. The cap is projected to be at ~$60.2M, which gives us $12M wiggle room.
This is totally barring any FA signings , major trades or the fact that these salary figures only involve 7 or 8 players.

To conclude, bringing in Nocioni does have a major impact on our cap for 2011 off season. Without him, we can start LeBron at around $18/19M per season with 10% increments every season, which would make it a 5 year, $110M contract, taking him to age 31 when it expires. Or he may decide to take another short term deal... say 3 yrs/$60M

Of course all of this assumes no more FA moves, which is relatively unrealistic.

Chicago needs to cut payroll in order to re-sign Deng.

Would most likely include KVH contract. I could see KVH, Hassell and Dallas pick.

I'd love to see them pull this off.

The only way LeBron gets the 10.5% raises is through a S&T. Since the Nets would have to give up something in an S&T besides cap space, not having all of the 20 mil in space isn't a problem.

I think we should look more into Gordon if we're doing a trade with chicago.

What is the maximum allowable yearly raise as a FA?

I'm trying to see what is the chance of NJ signing him outright. S&T is always a possibility, even if you're the Knicks. :-/

8% raises when you sign another team's player

People don't want to see us lose Nenad for nothing. What makes people think Cleveland would lose Lebron for nothing?

All you need is enough cap space to give him a credible offer. Say about $12-15mm to start. If you can do that, and Lebron commits to take that, then Cleveland will work a s&t with him getting the max. At that stage all you need is about $3-5mm in contracts to send back plus picks.

Look at the Rashad Lewis signing last year as a prime example of how that works.

The only thing I don't like about Nocioni is the fact that he's 28....while the team is getting younger.

Other than that, he gets the stamp of approval by pegs.

Oh yeah, and what if Vince were somehow traded to the Bulls..? That'd be an interesting bit.

Noc is a decent player, but he's overpaid. He isn't a great defender and is a bit of a chucker. He's not even close to being as good as RJ. Trading for him means that will have to get rid of Carter for expirings if we want LeBron. At that price, he simply isn't worth it.

?
He's a really good defender. A real pain in the ass.

Go read the thread... they can still get Lebron.

Okay... just so everyone knows. Here is what we have commited in 2010:

Carter: $ 17.5
Harris: $ 8.4
Yi: $ 3.4
Sean: $ 2.1
Lopez: $2.0
Anderson: $1.2

Total: $34.6

2009 rookie could be due another $2mm.
Marcus, Boone, and Ager are all listed with the QO. Marcus and Ager will be gone. Who knows about Boone

So with the 2009 rookie added in we have about $37mm commited.

Nocioni makes $7mm in 2010. Would bring the total to $44mm.

THE CAP IS PROJECTED AT $60MM!! We have room to add Lebron.
All you need is the ability for him to accept a contract starting at $15mm and Cleveland will do a S&T. Between Nike contract bumps for playing in NYC market and the China potential I think it's a credible threat to steal Lebron and force a S&T.

I agree with Basileus777 that Noc's D is overrated but his effort outweighs RJ's contributions on that end 10 fold.

Nocioni's contract decreases as time goes on, this would be a good deal to make. I don't know what exactly Chicago is looking for though. Are they looking at a young player, or just get rid of him for expiring contracts? No one really knows at this point I don't think.

Someone said they just want to resign Deng, but I don't really know how they can do that by making a deal this season. They won't be able to cut enough to sign him until next year...the Warriors have tons of cap, maybe they could make a move with them, but other than that:

Stromile Swift
Maurice Ager

for

Andres Nocioni

Well Nocioni will make an average of like 7 mill per year for the next 4 or 5 years or whatever. RJ was going to be making an average of 14 mill per year over the next 3.
