I'm extremely wary of this trade, particularly because of the two long contracts, and defensive deficiencies. I'd feel better if it turned into a bigger, better trade somehow...later in the season.

Of course, there's also the fact that Diaw was linked to the Raptors - maybe a three-way trade is possible?

Come to think of it...have the Nets ever been involved in a three-way trade in the THRON Era?
 
Atrocious deal. The Nets take back two longer contracts and they have to give the Suns the #10 for #15? Insanity. Not to mention I don't want to see a jelly roll like Diaw on this team.
 
I'm not crazy for this deal either. Moving BACK 5 spots, and taking two longer contracts?
I can't see this happening. I don't see RJ being used as a piece to move back in the draft, but rather, up. Clippers come to mind..

He wrote today about the Nets trading down. Huh, I said. Jonathan Givony made have gotten a whiff of it when he suggested the Nets could take Robin Lopez. Taking Robin at #10 made no sense, but taking him at #15 does.

The Nets would set land speed records with that team if they could get Diaw motivated enough. Diaw and Barbosa are both 26 years old. Harris, Barbosa, Diaw, Sean Williams, Boone, and of course Mo Ager.

All this bullshit about getting under the cap for Lebron is just that. But think about stockpiling a number of reasonable expiring contracts for sign and trade purposes in 2010-11. THAT makes a lot more sense than getting under the cap.

I really hope this isn't true. I still believe that the Nets could get more for RJ, and I guess I'd prefer trying to pick up another lottery pick instead of moving down--especially since I still believe that Hibbert will be available at #21 and that he'd do just as well as Robin Lopez. I see Diaw as a bust. Barbosa is interesting, but I may prefer to have Westbrook myself instead (since, again, I see Robin Lopez and Hibbert as interchangable).
 
Go back and read D'Alessandro who says this is the only interest the Nets could garner in RJ. People who say Diaw isn't a team player or hard to motivate or whatever should take seriously the similar criticisms of RJ: that while his scoring went up, his rebounds, assists and defense went down.

I think this is real...how real I don't know. But what it would do is make the Nets very young, very athletic and very much a new team.
 
Toronto is supposedly interested in Diaw...three way!
 
If the deal is RJ for Diaw + Barbosa + 15, I would gladly think about doing that deal. But I'm not willing to give up the chance to draft one of the most skilled players in the draft, Gallinari, for Boris freaking Diaw and Leandro Barbosa. If the Nets make this deal, I would have to seriously question their judgment and wonder if they know what the hell they are doing. This doesn't even save them any money.

Let's say it IS real, and that this is the best the nets could do (which I doubt, since I still think that the Clippers will take him if/when Brand opts out).

The question really is whether it is better to have RJ, Gallinari/Westbrook, and Hibbert or Diaw, Barbosa, Robin Lopez, and ___? CDR? What if the deal will prevent Hodge from making the team?

What do you really gain by dealing RJ for Diaw and Barbosa? Their combined salary is more than RJs and their contracts last longer. You move down in the draft.

HOWEVER, I could see a deal like this being contingent on who is left on the table at #10 when the Nets pick. For instance, maybe if Westbrook and DG are both gone, the Nets make the deal, otherwise, they take the guy they want.

ALSO there is a rumour of Diaw going to the Raptors for TJ Ford and the #17 . . . a three-way deal here, where the Nets get Ford, Barbosa, the #17, and the #15 for RJ and the #10 would be very, very interesting. Then maybe they can package a couple of the picks and move up . . .
It's going to be an interesting night.
 
Here's a possibility: this trade is dependent on the Nets being able to secure Westbrook (or Alexander) on Draft Night...something like what happened in 2001 when once the Nets had Eddie Griffin in hand they began to do the deal with the Rockets. The Rockets had fallen in love with Griffin and were willing to give up their three picks.

There is too much out there on this for it not to be real.

I read somewhere that there was no deal in place for Griffin; the Nets took him and took their chances. It seems like nowadays there is more info flying around about who each team wants, however. Maybe it is just a false impression from all the internet reporting that didn't exist then.

My point about 2010 has always been this: getting under the cap AND being competitive enough to lure Lebron James is a fool's errand. I dont care if they change the arena name to LBJ Center, he isn't coming to Brooklyn to play for a shitty team.

BUT if you populate the roster with reasonable contracts (beyond Carters) that you can send to Cleveland in a sign-and-trade, that makes a lot more sense. Diaw and Barbosa's contracts are reasonable, and they are both 26 years old.

And I really do not believe the Nets highest priority is getting Lebron James two years from now. It is, as Dave D quoted a Nets official saying, "a pipe dream". He may not want to leave where he grew up. His ties are strong.

I hope they got the picks mixed up, and we were including 21 instead of 10. that'd be much better, we could get Gallinari, then take Lopez or Rush.

gimme a little time, I'll come back with some crazy trade proposal with the Nets, Raptors and Suns, probably some other team too.

The trade is predicated on the Suns getting a higher pick. Why would the Suns want the 21 pick. Could they get the #8 or #9 for the #15 and #21? I doubt it. But that sort of deal doesn't get done til the draft is underway.

And the more I think about, that's what makes the most sense...there's the outline of a deal, with some gentleman's agreement that if things go a certain way, then the deal gets done.
 
and thinking about it, Barbosa and (presumably) Ford, if they're on the Nets, it really does fit Kiki's statement of "building around Devin" ....man that'd be super quick.
 
Up till now I've only heard about TJ being involved in any potential deal, not our pick.

And it's crazy to think about what the team would look like since no one knows whether they will be able to sign Krstic and Diop and whether they would want to sign Nachbar. But remember this, if you trade #10 and RJ for #15, Diaw and Barbosa, you automatically take on $1.5 million more in salary net. Of course, I can also see them trading Williams on draft night as well. No need for him with Barbosa (as well as Diaw who has played some point as can Hodge if he makes the team).

ah, this is true. Ford would be going to the Suns then.
Wow, if Hodge makes this team (and I really hope he does, but I don't want to sound redundant) , I think we will have a very solid young team just with the players who we know WILL be on our team.
 
I think this is all planted in the news to motivate another team to pull the trigger (maybe Knicks?).

I think Frank would blow his brains out if he had to coach two defensive liabilities like them.
 
On that note, I've gotten the distinct sense that some teams seem to use Jonathan Givony to spread misinformation. Maybe it is because he is not a "real" journalist, or maybe it is because they see him as an impressionistic kid who will believe and print anything, and that other teams are guarrateed to read it.

But whenever I see a "scoop" on DX along the lines of "a source within team A tells us that they are leaning towards taking player X," and no other news outlet has gotten the same info, I am very, very skeptical and I immediately wonder if they are being used.

DX also loves to toot their own horn, with common phrases like "which we were first to report" or "exclusive to DX", etc...

Really annoys me.

As much as I hate him, I'd really only want a Richard Jefferson trade between the Suns and Raptors if we landed Andrea Bargnani.

In Chad Ford's video chat, he states that he thinks there is real interest in RJ from a number of teams, including Portland.

Couldn't Dave D. just be overstating things a little bit by indicating that there is no interest in him? In recent years, he doesn't come close to Kerber's and Ford's record when it comes to Nets transactions--or, apparently, inside sources.
