Yi can't be moved for 60 days or something if he is bundled with another player. Doubt he is moved again, as 1 on 1 per dollar, GS won't have much to offer... unless it's their exceptions (from the Richardson/Bobcat trade). But the fans would boycott the Nets so quick if RJ was moved just to clear $$.

The only thing I don't quite get right now Ghoti assuming no other trades occur is the fact that Thorn said he wanted to get tougher. Yi, a finesse perimeter based PF, isn't going to get confused with Garnett anytime so soon. Seems out of sync with what Thorn has been saying recently.

Every player they acquire doesn't have to make them tougher, especially if they offer other things the Nets need, which Yi does.

This was a great return for a player they wanted off their books!

They do have several draft picks coming up in a few hours, you know.

The guy is still raw. He's not any "softer" than Brandon Wright or any other underdeveloped kid.

wow... called it! sorta. well, I thought we'd get Villanueva and 8 instead of Yi, but I called RJ for Simmons! Simmons was a really good shooter before he was injured, hopefully he can do that again.
 
I really don't care if Yi is the player the Nets need, the main point of this trade was getting RJ's contract off the books by 2010.

RJ pretty much wore out his welcome here, good luck to the guy but see ya. One down, one to go.

Ghoti IMHO soft has little or nothing to do with the size of the player. When Rondo came out I would never have called him soft even though the guy was as skinny as a rail. Defense and aggression on D seem to be Yi's biggest faults. Like I said that perception usually doesn't come from how skinny/raw a guy is.

Have you watched him play on a consistent basis? I'd like to know more about him.


I feel like it's highly likely and possible that Yi plays better with the Nets, because he had no business being in Milwaukee. He didn't want to be there from the start.

You have to be physically able to compete against fully developed men to be aggressive in the NBA.

I watched Yi. He was very confident and not afraid to take on defenders. He took good shots and can even handle the ball. He can get his jumper off against anyone and it is really, really good.

He is not a shrinking violet. He's not Antoine Wright.

The problem was he was physically overmatched and his decision-making was too slow. He has to develop and get more experience. He also was not in good condition, which is not acceptable. He really wore out after 20 games or so.

His game is not in the paint. If the Nets want that they have to get someone else.

Not just that. He is a money making machine, and the Nets have the best marketing guy in the league.

That means it's likely he'd take Krstic's role on offense that he used to have a couple years ago.
 
if this is the best deal the nets can get for rj's best statistical year (his suckiness on defense notwithstanding) then can't they have waited a year or so for a better one to come along? the bucks would have still given away yi and simmons next year for rj...

Yes, except Yi can shoot threes and handle the ball.

If he works on his game, he can also continue to develop some post moves (which he actually has), but he will have to use them against smaller defenders. He won't be able to bang with real PF for a long time - if ever.

Yi is actually a better prospect than Kristic was, and I have always liked Krstic.

guilty as charged. I followed the Knicks religiously until they fired Larry Brown. Just couldn't stand the ownership anymore. I wasn't planning on rooting for the Nets till they moved to Brooklyn (Need another year away from the NBA to detox myself from the stench of the Dolans), but this move for Yi brought out the yellowness in me. If the move goes through, I might as well get an early start.

I hope the Nets don't pull a Houston, and redesign the unis to match the Chinese National Team. I'm not cool with the McDonald's color palette.
 
I don't know much about Yi except that he's actually not soft, and usually tries to take it up strong. On defense, he pays with alligator arms, but might be a decent weakside helper.

I've seen a lot of Simmons, and the guy was awesome in his last year with the Clippers. I think he'd do better as a 6th man but I don't know his role on the Nets yet.

Well, this is the type of thing that just had to make me go back on my self-imposed posting moratorium here. What a huge trade for the Nets.

I actually was hoping the Nets would trade RJ to the Bucks for a package including Simmons and one of Yi or Villenueva (didn't really think Yi was a possibility) and a swap of first round picks. The fact that it's Yi instead of Villenueva is great, and I think Simmons still has some decent bench-caliber basketball left. Of course the biggest prize is the cap relief in 2010.\

But I would absolutely BOW DOWN in homage to the Nets FO if this is partly to engineer taking Alexander at 10, especially if Gallinari is gone at 6. With Yi now a Net (for how long?) and with a prime-of-life 20 pt. SF now in the stable, I would think it COULD change the Bucks draft plans, especially if someone like Gordon is there at 8. I want Alexander in the worst way, and if this is part of the plan, or alternate plan, I will be ecstatic.

Someone was going to take advantage of that situation, just sucks that it had to be the Nets. You guys got a very good deal though. I know there were rumours all over the place involving RJ, but I couldn't understand why any of the other teams would make those deals. Idunno, I guess I don't have a very high opinion of him and think his salary's too much of a handicap.

That's a pretty interesting question, even though I don't think Andrea was ever in play. I haven't seen Yi enough to make an evaluation, so I'm looking forward to watching him play 4 times a year now.
