I don't see much on the roster that other teams would covet and want to trade for.

You just traded away a 20+ PPG scorer for a 20 year old guy who needs a lot of seasoning.

10th pick in the draft gets you... Dirk if you are incredibly lucky, or Joakim Noah in a deep draft.

In another thread with radio interview with Thron (I think), he said the deal was made with 2010 in mind. My scenario is the 2010 one.

Of course, Lawrence Frank is a genius and can play a couple of solid vets and young players into a playoff team. Right?

The Nets need shooters. Yi isn't the answer for that.

If you think he has no range, you are wrong. Ever watch him? All I said is he has more range than Krstic, which he does.

Gallinari isn't a shooter, either. Brandon Rush is a shooter. Your boy Eric Gordon is a shooter.

My guy Gallinari shot 40% in the Italian league. We need a SF, a dribbler, and a shooter, he does fit the criteria.

However, if we do trade up, I think wed be tempted to go with BPA and take Love.

Dont worry about Gordon he will be long gone by the time we pick

I know but it was more of an example of how little I'd want for him. His contract is just god awful...we offered him too much and he was pretty much signed only with the goal of winning a championship with the core of Kidd, Carter, RJ and Krstic...it didn't work out.

It confuses casual fans because they don't realize how valuable Marbury's contract is.

I'm on the fence whether I'd do that deal, but you are definitely right about Carter's contract.

Now that RJ's gone, though, it's not really as much of a problem.

I'd be thrilled to get Love, but don't be so sure about Gordon.

There is a real possibility he will be there at 10 and the Nets will jump on him.

Hell I'd do Carter for Ben Wallace straight up.
 
RJ has an ETO for the 2011 season. I wonder if he'd want to take that option now that he'll most likely be in Milwaukee for that year?
 
Any chance that RJ comes back to the Nets for the MLE in 2010 (he'll be 30)? haha, that would be pretty cool though to team him up with LeBron if Thorn really is serious about making a run for him.

As for the trade, I've never seen either Yi or Simmons play, so no comment for now.

RJ isnt my favorite player...
Honestly if I had to pick a favorite it be Boone or Sean followed closely by Devin and Marcus.
I just hate Vince Carter that much.

Nets trade F Jefferson to Bucks

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- The New Jersey Nets continued their makeover Thursday, trading Richard Jefferson to the Milwaukee Bucks for Yi Jianlian and Bobby Simmons.

No picks ahead of Thursday's draft were involved the deal.

The biggest prize in the trade is the high-flying Jefferson, who averaged a career-high 22.6 points last season.

"Richard Jefferson is a hard-working, proven, dynamic performer at the forward position," Bucks general manager John Hammond. "He's an aggressive player with terrific credentials over his career.

"He's been a winner, having gone to the playoffs in six of his seven seasons, and we're excited to bring him to Milwaukee."

For the Nets, the biggest benefit of the deal is salary-cap relief.

Having traded disgruntled point guard Jason Kidd in February, moving Jefferson's maxed-out contract that has three years and $42 million remaining would create an estimated $10 million in long-term savings for the Nets.

Simmons' contract expires after the 2008-09 season, and Yi has only about $7 million left on his contract for the next two years.

Simmons, 28, spent two awful seasons in Milwaukee after fleecing the Bucks for a five-year, $47 million contract. The small forward struggled with various injuries last season, averaging 7.6 points in 70 games.

The move to New Jersey allows the 6-11 Yi to play in a bigger media market, something he wanted to do before being drafted by the Bucks sixth overall last season. The 20-year-old Chinese big man, who has been compared to Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki, averaged 8.6 points and 5.2 rebounds last season.

"We feel that Yi can be a very special player," Nets president Rod Thorn said. "He is a 20-year-old seven footer who shoots the ball extremely well, and he is an excellent addition to our frontcourt."

Jefferson, 28, gives new coach Scott Skiles a veteran presence and a slasher to go along with sharpshooter Michael Redd, who also has been on the trading block.

Selected 13th overall in 2001, the 6-7 Jefferson helped the Nets reach a pair of NBA Finals. He has career averages of 17.4 points, 5.4 assists and 3.0 assists in 489 games.

Or look at it this way: Even if Yi becomes a decent player, which remains a question to be answered, it's hard to imagine him becoming any better than Jefferson.

Obviously, New Jersey didn't do this deal with the hope of improving its roster in 2008-09. No, this was done to improve its cap space in 2010 -- Simmons' expiring deal will cut $10.6 million off the payroll two summers from now, and the clear-as-day idea is that King James will ride in to the rescue the Nets at that point.

In the meantime, maybe Yi earns them a few more Nets fans from the New York area's large Asian population, and maybe he'll play a little better now that he's not in Wisconsin culture shock.

But for a team that's business side has been focused on the 2010 move to Brooklyn for some time now, it only makes sense that the basketball side starts getting in line. The hope for the Nets is that the nucleus of Yi, Devin Harris, Nenad Krstic, Josh Boone, Marcus Williams, Sean Williams, and whomever they draft will be decent enough to attract James to join the crowd; if Vince Carter is still chugging along by then so much the better. But the Nets are clearly rolling the dice.</div>

The guy regressed, is injury prone, played no defense, had a crappy attitude and a bad contract and the Nets got a lottery pick and a substantial savings along with cap room for 2010, when there are more FA than just LeBron available.

All of a sudden RJ is some kind of superstar? Please.

Its a clear signal they could give a shit about next year or the year after that. Maybe thats just my bitterness talking though... ugh but we have Hassell and Simmons on our roster. Bad contracts.

Now I REALLY want Danilo so we can fullfill my Nets prediction of having a multicultural team to boost ticket sales. I do remember posting the need to trade for Yi a while ago. Made in jest though.

Can anyone here conceive of a scenario where a team would trade for Carter? I can't...

However, I wouldn't expect anyone to trade for Shaq, either

They like Wally's expiring deal, too, so they have cap space to try and re-sign LeBron.

In fact, they'll have so much cap space, they could sign a much younger player with a longer upside than Vince to go along with LeBron.

wOW I can't believe this crap. We need a shooter & a big so we get rid of a good SF for this?? If they wanted to give away RJ why not trade with the timberwolves for their #4 pick.

They wouldn't...they'd take him for a single expiring contract like Ben Wallace but that's about it.
 
NBC's Bruce Beck just said on air that the Knicks are trying to acquire Richard Jefferson from the Bucks.
 
I got it, lets get rid of Harris,Carter,Swat,Williams everybody else that has a contract will stay. We pick up Marbury, and couple other rejects and call it a day. This team has been going down hill since they gave away KMART

I disagree with a lot of this. Even if LeBron said there is no way he's leaving Cleveland, I'd still do this trade. Bottom line: the Nets were not winning a championship with Richard Jefferson, and his large contract hampered them from getting the parts that could possibly lead to a championship. With Yi (young guy with a lot of potential) and Simmons (10.6M expiring contract after this season), they are in better position to make a deal for a star after this year than they would if they still have Jefferson in 2009.

RE Carter: I'd love to trade Vince, but I don't see it happening this summer. However (and I don't think anybody has pointed this out yet), this team is built for Carter to put up gaudy numbers and increase his trade value. If the West goes on another "aging stars arms race" like last year, I could see teams like the Suns or Jazz making offers for him.
