New CBA, Franchise tag and Oden

I was wondering if Paul allen is confident that the franchise tag will stay in the proposed new CBA as a way to keep Greg Oden. I'm fairly positive if there is a 45 million hardcap and two possible Amnesty clauses, why would we worry about losing Oden if he is a priority? In the NFL, you can keep a player as he is paid equal to the top 5 or 10 players in his position for one year. You can also franchise the same player the following year which is a way to leverage a long term contract at a lower rate. Considering there isn't a ton of great centers, and the the franchise tag is written similar to the NFL, it would seem like a great way to keep Greg without a risk to signing him long term considering his injury history. Any thoughts?

The franchise tag in the nfl gives the player the average of the top 5 salaries at his position. I know in a lot of cases you cannot franchise the same player in back to back years.

I'm not sure that you can't franchise a player twice. I know most players sign long term contracts at less then the one year franchise number in the NFL for more security. If it is only allowed for one year, it would allow Portland to keep Oden for two more years to evaluate his health and production. I really hope that the tag isn't bargained out.

I remember the franchise tag on Shaun Alexander, and the following year they paid him a huge contract. I thought you could not franchise tag a player in consecutive years, but I'm sure someone with more interest in this thread and more free time is going to Google it.

Yeah, Big Walt was the king of Franchising. I think he did it for like 3 years straight.

I think it might be in a players contract. I just remember there being players that couldn't be franchised back to back years.

sometimes players/teams write it into the contract that if they accept it, they cant be franchised the next year, thought that happened with shawn alexander

i would be in favor of keeping greg forever, so get it done
