New Computer

I love that feeling when you get some new piece of tech. I got a macbook air for my studies, and it arrived today. Mac or PC, as long as you get that spanking new piece of shiny technology, it's just such a pleasure to explore and enjoy. My other computers are over 6 years old so the differences are gigantic. Speed, ease of use, and just everything is pretty. Love it. Tomorrow I'll miss my money, but today it feels like a gift from the gods.

Should have gotten the 13" MacBook Pro.

Similar price, but the screen is super hi res (retina) and the CPU is faster, it has more RAM, and it only weighs a little bit more (maybe 1 lb more).

There's lots of guys where I work that have the air and it's fine for their purposes. So you didn't go completely wrong.

Besides the specs being better, 2 more reasons your new computer is faster is 1) the old hard drive is emptier and 2) you haven't yet gradually installed the same old add-ons.

The bigger one just isn't as convenient for me even though its close. I bike to school most days, and so saving space and weight helps. And for my purposes, papers, internet research and junk like that I have more than enough to work with. Honestly, I was so pissed at some connectivity issues I was having with my other computers that I bought this one without doing much research at all. I couldn't print a paper and my older computer couldn't handle the schools awkward website so it kept booting me out of the system. I finally got pissed and over the course of one glass of calm-down wine I decided to buy my new laptop. Ordered it a couple minutes later after realizing I still had a $150 credit on my apple account to lessen the pain. Anyway, it works great, but Im not even saying its the best, or mac over pc, or any of that jazz, just that new tech excites in a way most purchases never do. I guess one thing is that the options are endless, always something new to explore. But if I spent the same money on a new dinette set (something I need) I think I wouldn't give a crap 72 hours after I bought it.

Totally agreed; the rMBP is hot stuff, can handle video and audio editing decently, and 2013 and older PC games too. But if you're just writing papers and stuff, it'll be unnecessary.

Ha! Hard to argue with feels good. But you know, I kind a like building my own stuff, like this computer I am using right now. Several people (feeling just like you) have insisted I try their New computer. I have yet to find one a responsive as my old horse right here.

I installed a 3.4mhz 12meg cache quad xeon processor with a pin mask so it would run on a standard G31m Asrock board. Assigned 1GB of the 4GB memory to a Ram drive for use as a page device, and this thing responds right now. Most that I have tried are not that fast or if they are, I can't tell, so that isn't worth much. It cost me 50 bucks to up grade to this over the
the prior processor. Apple is out of the question, way too much software on here that will not work on Apple.

Ya, I have a bunch of friends that love building their own. I tried it once, and when it comes to computers I just get confused, annoyed and end up with an inferior product. My friends that are more computer oriented can save money, increase abilities and have a fun time in the process. I guess it's what you like to do and what you appreciate. I enjoy cooking and get so much more enjoyment out of making my own Trout Amandine or Pappardelle Pasta than ordering it at a restaurant.
