8 1/2 months after the injury, and they're still not sure he's going to be ready for training camp??

I'm getting a very bad feeling about this injury. I hope I'm wrong, but something seems suspect. Perhaps the Blazers know that this is a bigger deal than we thought . . .

No.

Officials refuse to say that Oden will be ready to play by Oct. 26, when the team opens the season against the Phoenix Suns."I don't know if he'll be ready to go full-speed ahead when training camp starts, but our hope is that he'll be ready to participate in training camp," Cho said.
Full-Speed in My mind means whether he's ready to be a starter or not. Fine by me if Camby Starts.

What because the management isn't bent on blowing sunshine up everybodies collective asses anymore people are upset? I actually find it refreshing.

I cant speak for everyone else but me at least the concerning part is that Oden behind not only the orginal timeframe but also the recent timeframe McMillian spoke of. So that make me ask 2 questions. One, did they not realize the extent of the injury intitally and miscalculate the return timeframe? This would make me once again question our training staff. Or two, what has happened to change the most recent timeframe?

It just seems that either way that they arent days or even weeks off on this but months. So although Im gald for the honesty and update it still seems like we arent getting all the information here.

Either way I hope Im wrong but something tells me there is more to the story.

I love people giving Cho credit for literally doing nothing.

Fucking awesome

That is understandable. I am pretty sure after the last few years most Blazer fans are somewhat paranoid about Oden, and unsure of how this will turn out. But this could also be about not putting too much pressure on Greg. The vagueness of their statement feeds off the paranoia. The thing is, at least they aren't trying to build up everybodies expectations falsely. If you listen to the interviews with Greg, he flat out says there are good days and bad days. It is what it is.

If this was the case I would be much quicker to agree. Unfortunately there was a very UN-vague statement about the timeframe when he would be playing 2-on-2, 3-on-3, etc and he isnt doing those things at all at this point.

All for keeping expectations in check but if that is the case they should have never gone public with when they thought he would be playing against competition on practice.

In the end Im going to try to remain positive and hope for the best.

Credit for what exactly? I think some of us are just happy that's he's not pulling a KP, "Greg does everything we ever ask of him, he's a heckuva kid, we love him, he's going to come back from this stronger than ever, blah, blah, blah ..."

The good news is that while Durant is putting up 30/10/5 and even Noah goes 11/11/2 - we can count on Greg to swim and jump rope!

HOORAAHH!

Ah, I see now. You're still in your "Anger" stage and haven't quite moved on to "Bargaining", "Depression" and then finally (hopefully) "Acceptance."

Nothing. Thought I made that clear.

What do you mean "blah, blah, blah, blah....."

It was true and he was right. He did come back. And he was playing like a monster.

Then he was hurt again.

You can't take what Pritchard said 2 years ago about a different injury and apply it to today's situation. He hasn't said anything about Oden in this moment in time.

Either has Cho. WHAT A GENIUS!!!!

All we heard last season after Oden went down in December were teases that he could be ready for the playoffs from KP. He was an insufferable sunshine pumper and I'm just happy I'm not being subjected to that any more.

You seem to be having trouble following along.

Man, I love the offseason. A 2nd string beat reporter writes a few paragraphs about nothing and a flame war is triggered.

Brilliant.

You're the one applying statements from December to today's situation.

Well its true. It wasn't that long ago KP was telling us Greg might make it back in time for the playoffs. KP was the sunshine enema master!

If you listen to the interviews with Greg, he flat out says there are good days and bad days. It is what it is.
That in itself is a cause for concern. The guy is what, 22? He should be healthy and raring to go by now.

Blame the decision maker who decided to give him MF surgery, Threw off his whole time-line as an NBA player. It's pretty unprecedented to have a rookie undergo a surgery like that. If it wasn't for that surgery, the latest one would have been a blip on the radar

Why couldn't that have been true at the time?

Anyway my original comment had nothing to do with Pritchard. It was the fact that people were stroking Cho for doing literally nothing.

"Yeah, that Cho's a genius. Love how's he not saying anything or doing anything. Especially because the guy who used to be here one time said one of our players might be back for the playoffs. I simply won't stand for that."

Nobody's calling Cho a genius, Just simply comparing him to KP, and in this case it's a refreshing difference

So we agree. I'll write it for the 3rd time. You've all somehow managed to give someone credit for doing nothing.

It's like giving credit to green for not being blue.

Yes, I suppose not telling a lie equates to doing nothing. :dunno:

What was the lie? Saying he "might" make it back for the playoffs? How do you know at the time there wasn't a chance?

Love this new wave of Pritchard hate. Now he's a liar.

EDIT: Here's Kevin Pritchard incendiary lie:

General Manager Kevin Pritchard confirms Oden’s version.

“It’s possible, but you know, we’ll play this by ear, and we’ll be very cautious,” Pritchard says. “We’re not going to push. We’ll let it happen naturally and follow what the doctor orders.”

Is that what you all are upset about you big girls?

Is THAT Kevin Pritchards big lie?

Fer fucks sake.

Even more despicable Kevin Pritchard lies about Oden. All but guaranteeing his return for the playoofs:

Pritchard says when Oden reaches that point, he can also begin water workouts. Sometime in the following two to four weeks, Pritchard says, the 7-footer should be able to begin light running and gradually increase his workout regimen.

So what are the chances that Oden will be back before the end of the season?

“I’m not ready to say that,” Pritchard says. “We’re taking it step by step. He has to hit certain milestones in his recovery. We’ll monitor his progress.

“Dr. Roberts is one of the best knee guys in the country. We believe what he says. We’re hopeful, but we’ll be in no rush to get Greg back on the court.”

I'm so glad this liar is gone.

Saint Cho is here to save us all from ourselves!!!!

Would you stop.

This isn't about KP. Cho was put in a position where many GMs would have spun some fairy tale about Oden's progress. Cho didn't do that. Good for him.

Not everything happening around here is about KP....and even if it was, it would be silly to bash KP for something most GMs do.

WtF?? I'm not the one who brought Pritchard up. I even reiterated that earlier. Please read slower.

It's an interesting trend on this board these days.

When Cho is criticized all you hear is KP this, KP that. It's funny. People are afraid to discuss the merits of Cho :dunno:

Cho did something . . . he handled the press conference different than the way KP does and some appreciate that. You don't get that?

Edit: My thoughts on this news is I don't know Cho enough to have my "cho filter" on (I had my KP filter finely tuned) . . . but I got say this is terrible news. How do you go from maybe playing in the playoffs to maybe not being ready for training class. What in the hell is going on with Oden? If he was really a maybe for playoffs or his rehab was right on schedule it should be that Oden will be good to go at training camp . . .. heck he should be good to go now.

I hope this is all nothing but I am programed to think the worst when it comes to Oden's health.

If Cho does nothing as his strategy isn’t that actually doing something?

I like the steel curtain approach, it feels a little more professional.
