I'm not hip at all and I still don't like baseball. And I've actually tried to get into it more than once.

Of the Major League sports in this country, the NBA is BY FAR the worst. NFL, MLB, NHL and MLS are just simply better. In all those other leagues, any team can be a champion. Its not WWE style like in the NBA. I know this won't be a popular opinion here, but it doesn't mean its not true. Worst officiating. Most unbalanced. Cater's to major media markets. Its a joke of a league. If Portland didn't have a team I wouldn't watch a second of NBA basketball. Really thought Silver would bring some change, but so far I don't see it happening.

The NBA is simply a symptom of our celebrity driven culture. Our society puts a premium on the power of the individual in a team based competition. Given the number of players in basketball that is pretty much a given.

Yes. You're right about the above things. They are true. But there is a common ttype of fan who doesn't really care about that. They'll blog about Durant going to
the Warriors as "cool." They'll buy the newest shoes. And they'll come out with videos on Facebook giving their opinion on whatever news is trending in the league. These are also the majority of fans that drive tickets sales and pay for TV packages.

Other sports you watch and you always have this notion of "the love of the game" or "no player is not above the sport." Look at Brady's struggles. The NFL has a brand and they'll do anything to protect it. Baseball has the "Unwritten Rules." But the NBA is defined by whatever few stars are sitting on Mount Olympus and whatever terms are defined in the current CBA. Curry was THE MAN last year. Now it is King James. Nike over Under Armour. The unseen hand of commerciality and popular culture oversee these changes. All Silver can really do is say, "I don't think this is in the best interest of the league."

I know people who hate the expression but maybe the phrase "It is what it is" fits here. If you're a fan of a small market team like the Blazers you're takes on these issues might be different. But you still have a rationale about the reality of the NBA in general.
