You could see what he is all about in that game. This isn't a list of how they did in summer league, it's a list of how they should fair in the NBA based on summer league
 
Interesting to me that the shooting guard, Beal, who shot for such poor % in college, "didn't shoot the ball all that well". I don't get taking him 3rd and hoping one day he will start shooting better; especially a guy who is not that athletic.

It looks like you're not the only one that is mistaken about that being something he needs to work on. :)
 
I think Barton was a steal. I don't suspect he'll ever be a star, but I could easily see him as a starter or a solid role player off the bench. Maybe a defensive stopper.
 
I think Leonard would be ranked higher if wasn't sick that one game.

I think the problem is that he didn't put up eye-popping numbers, but he played above expectations (at least for me he did) and I think he showed some real promise. I suspect that most of these lists are based off stats.
 
Barton will be a great player to have coming off your bench. Leonard will be solid. Lillard will be our Chris Paul/B-Roy (Maybe not as good as either, but close). Pretty good haul, I'd say.
 
I am a little worried that people are putting too much on Lillard so early. They're already tagging him as a franchise player and he's only played four SL games. I think the guy is definitely talented, and I have high hopes for him, but I want to see how he does in the league before we start tagging him a franchise player.
 
The comparison of Leonard with Przybilla is interesting. I'm guessing he means that Leonard isn't soft, is prepared to set nasty picks and bounce people around, and will get called for a lot of fouls, because Leonard isn't the rebounder or shot-blocker Joel is, but can probably jump higher than Joel ever could. Oh, and he's already a better FT shooter than Joel became after much practice.

He said he meant as a compliment, really LOL

Interesting (my fave word today) that Chad Buchanan calls Chauncey Billups the best case scenario for Lillard. Now, Chauncey has been a finals MVP, but it's a far cry from the Derek Rose comparisons flying around. I don't think of Chauncey as a guy who was great at getting to the rim, but maybe I've forgotten the younger Billups.

I think it actually is. Przybilla has had a long career and racked up the rebounds and blocks, and has a very solid defensive reputation. Yes, he's inept offensively, but to be fair, so is Leonard.

I know Billups was a scoring machine during his first stint with Denver, but I never watched him much. I thought he was more of a shooter than a slasher.

Chad actually says that Olshey was the one to suggest that comparison, and he seems to agree with it only in regards to their temperament, pick-and-roll abilities, and overall athleticism. Personally, I think Billups is a pretty favorable ceiling to project for an untested rookie, and there's no way I'd start throwing around names like Rose until we've seen a bit more.


In a best case scenario down the road, [Blazers GM] Neil [Olshey] has talked a lot about Chauncey Billups for Damian. I think there are some similarities between those two guys and their temperament. Good pick and roll players. Not elite athletes but good enough athletes.

In shootarounds I saw Leonard frequently take shots just inside the three point line, and he made a surprising number of them. I never, ever remember Joel doing that. He didn't take those shots during SL games, but I can see him developing into a Raef LaFrentz kind of center maybe. He's remembered now for taking 3's and the RLEC debacle, but truth is he was an excellent shot blocker before injuries ruined him.

Oh, and he's a white center. lol.
 
Leonard seems to have better hands than Joel - so I suspect he will be much more of an offensive threat, with time, than Joel ever was. Not that there is anything wrong with being a nasty mofo like Joel.
