Game Thread No. 22 Oregon Ducks at Nebraska Cornhuskers

It feels like we are back to the "hey, if we beat Washington and Oregon State the season is a success!" Type seasons... Sadly idk if we can beat UW, seeing how they have a competent coaching staff.

Do you think the team will finally open up the pocket books to bring in a big name head coach?

I think Oregon actually outplayed the Huskers overall, but not by much. This game was so close in many ways to being a close Oregon win, which is something you'd be happy with playing at Nebraska. All we can hope for now is beating our pac 12 rivals.

The big game of the year will be cutting down Washington at home.

Helfrich was right about something on special teams. when Nebraska dropped a punt, the Oregon player with the best chance to recover it had lost focus just before it was dropped; he seemed to be staring off to the sideline instead of watching the ball.

Oregon's relevance is fading. They'll be remembered as a flash in the pan.

Getting to two national championship games was a huge accomplishment. Do you honestly think it was any wonder we played two teams who had a level of talent we can't conceive of? But getting there actually means something. This is the worst place in the country for college recruiting in football. All California teams have to do is get the kids on campus so they can see the girls and they commit. I will never understand why Oregon didn't hire somebody like Altman sooner. College basketball is the kind of game a school like Oregon can win at. He's been here what six or seven years and he's already recruiting Top Ten classes. When has that ever happened in football? This state will never ever win a Natty in football. The very idea is hilarious to anybody who knows a damn thing about big college athletics and boosters who carry "burners" and shoe boxes with cash. The Ducks got into playing the big time football game which is like heroin and can kill your university standards. I'm not sick of the ever plucky Ducks sports fan who secretly dreams of relevance. But I am sick of the delusion of big time athetics when we don't have the culture to support it.

We were right there with Auburn.... but Ohio State crushed us.

You don't win the championship unless you can get a Top Ten recruiting class. Every championship team for like the last 15 years has at least one consensus top ten class. It doesn't matter how gimmicky your offense is when your playing against players that can play at an NFL level. The Ducks recruit nice two star overachievers that appeal to the long time recruiting coordinators. That doesn't work any more. The game done changed. Look at Harbaugh. He'll go to Gaum if he thinks its necessary or use a player's girlfriend to get them to come. Helfrich is a super nice guy who wants players to like him and follows them on twitter. He can't sell chicken shit as chicken salad. You have to do that. The next guy in charge will need to bring in his own people.

Yup. It's time for Helfrich to go. I think a lot of Oregon fans would agree. He was propped up by Mariota and Chip's recruiting classes.

In favor of who? It's one game Oregon will be fine this year.

It speaks volumes when the high point of the Beavers season is when the Ducks lose a game.

How many games in a row did the Beavers lose until they ran into Idaho?

lol, that meme came from Husker Nation

The nation that goes from Arby's to Arby's and gorges itself on hamburger pizza every Saturday night? Hell. A lot of my friends are Husker fans. I'll take them over the judgemental neo-hipster douchebags that make up Timbers fans.

...did they move the point-after-kick back in college too?! :dunno: does Oregon even recruit kickers nowadays?!

But it's not 1 game. It's 4 games last year. We lost to freaking Washington State at home. Not to mention, Helfrich simply hasn't been able to recruit. His classes have ranked 22, 23, 17, 28. How does a coach of a program like Oregon justify having to start 2 lower level transfers at QB?

Oregon has a great kicker. Helfrich was both right and wrong. He said they liked their look. The first 3 extra points all should have been converted. They simply weren't executed because the QB talent just isn't there. That's where Helfrich is at fault. He has to know Prukop isn't a rwal D1 QB

The number of UO stickers on cars has fallen drastically ever since the Ducks lost to Auburn. Took an even bigger hit after losing to Ohio State. After this season I figure you will see even less than before... Hopefully all those phonies don't start putting Blazer stickers on their cars.
