Sounds like Martell will be in the boot for a couple more weeks and may not be ready to play until after the All Star break.

Hendrickson also says that there's virtually no chance of the Blazers really being interested in Curry. He says that Pritchard feels no pressure to make a trade:

"We've always wanted a young team that was very coachable and that had a chance to grow," Pritchard said. "We don't get panicked. We don't go crazy. We stay calm waters. That's what we've really tried to do is stay calm waters through all this."

He came back too soon the first time and re-injured it. The Blazers want to make sure that doesn't happen again.

No trades and staying the course probably does mean no playoffs. Or at best the 8th seed to get crushed by the L*kers in the first round.

Trading Outlaw, Rodriguez, Frye, Diogu, Blake, Bayless....or really anyone not names Roy, Aldridge or Oden for a player or two that has some playoff experience and could help us win some games would be a good thing.

Keeping players like Travis who will NEVER be anything more than a gunner off the bench is kinda stupid IMO. If you can get something of value for this team like a defensive wing with playoff experience or a starting caliber PG who can get to the rim and attack the basket that would make a lot of sense since we already have a player right now in Batum who plays overall better than Travis. Same with Sergio. Bayless wouldn't do a lot worse than Sergio, and if you could package Sergio with something to bring back something we need more you should do it.


I think there is a big difference between staying the course in calm waters and tweaking the roster to fill some holes.

For the record, KP saying that he doesn't feel pressured to make a trade is not the same as him saying that he isn't going to make a trade. He's just not going to make one of the hare-brained deals that have been circulating lately.

One thing that KP's been consistent on is only doing deals that he considers to be in the best longterm interests of the team. While we tend to be pretty short sighted around here, the Blazers' main chance at contending is not this season, but in the future. That mandates a planning approach that isn't as much concerned with just making the playoffs this year as it is with adding the best possible pieces to next year's team.

I kind of agree. I think we are one of the last teams that LA is going to want to see in the 1st round, given their recent games in the Rose Garden. You can almost throw out the first game we played with them this year -- Oden's first game of the year and gets injured minutes into the game. That was a Deer in the headlights game if I ever saw one. The second game, we played well in the 1st half, but we didn't have Roy and I aint taking a lot from that game about whether we can beat the Lakers either. I would gladly take an 8th seed matchup against the Lakers vs. a draft lottery, and I would chalk making the playoffs as a good year and good growth. I wouldn't even be that surprised if the Blazers made it a 6 or 7 game series. I would be surprised if they won though. Lakers will be tough to beat at home, but I think the Blazers will be tough to beat in the Rose Garden too.

webster's situation is starting to scare me. i've always thought he could and would be a great player but foot injuries are nothing to mess around with. talking to my dad he said it reminds him of what walton went through and how he was never the same player after hurting his foot. it's very difficult to come back and stay healthy on a damaged foot.

It was a stress fracture so they want to let it fully heal rather than what they did last time. Nothing to freak out about, it just takes time.

Really? Those 2 beat downs weren't enough to give them a pretty high level of confidence against us?

Well considering how I heard it happened, I was pretty upset. Martell came in to practice and play and then he reinjured his foot. The medical guy for the Blazers was on a talk show I was listening to said "Well if we would have taken X-rays/MRI of the foot before he played, we would have seen it wasn't healed."

That left me thinking "What the fuck do they pay you money for, your job is to ensure that X-ray happens".

I would assume that when a GM makes a trade, it is to improve their ball club in one way or another. I don't think anyone is saying trade just to trade. Some are saying trade, but to make the team better, instead of waiting for on the young ones to reach their potential. Also, what I do read, that makes sense, are posters who raise the idea of do you trade to better the team in the short run? But no GM trades just to make a trade . . . that is a cliche with very little substance behind it.

I agree. I also think that there's a misconception that standing pat doesn't have any risks either. The main risk being players' talent level stalling out and losing trade value over time (TO I'm looking at you).

Walton's issues were that the Blazers trainers (through lack of knowledge or negligence) kept shooting him full of drugs and sending him out to battle. The Blazers sat Webs down the instant he felt pain. Worlds apart, imo.

I'm fine with letting a 22y/o guy take a month extra to make sure he's fully healed. Especially since we're not baking cake right now anyway. It's not like he's missing out learning how to play with Oden and Bayless, since Oden and Bayless are missing out on learning how to play with Oden and Bayless, too.

It actually means this group will have time together to gel and become fluid as a team, which should make them a possible spoiler by playoff time.

If the Blazers make the playoffs, they'll be 1st Rd and done team anyway. There's no trade out there that's getting them to the WCF. Let's not get greedy. The playoffs are a five-man affair, and Roy/Aldridge/Oden (not to mention most of the bench) have no experience in the post-season, assuming they pick up a SF and PG that does. I want them to get to the playoffs, but I want them to get there without giving up Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Batum, Fernandez, Przybilla, and if all possible Webster, Blake, and Bayless. I'll give up any of those last three with any of our remaining players if it gets us a young starting ready point guard. Getting a Jason Kidd or a Steve Nash is just stupid. It would be the equivalent of flat out cutting players. Players don't have any trade value when they retire. As for small forward, we have one in Batum. He just needs a little more experience. Sure, if a young good one is available like the ones people have been mentioning (Butler, Wallace) I'd like to get them, but not in exchange for the whole farm. I don't expect those teams to be offering them for peanuts, and I think it's silly to believe the rumors that they are. There's 29 other teams in the NBA those teams can deal with, and they're definitely going to take the best offer available.

Teams lose a few games. Look at Boston. Let's get through January and see where we're at. In any case, I'm with Maris. Let them gel a little bit. They're not done getting better. Make a trade if it's a good one, but don't sell out a better future for now, now, now.
