According to Joe Freeman's article, Roy told trainer Jay Jensen that he doesn't want his minutes monitored anymore. So that may explain why Nate played Brandon 40 minutes tonight against the Suns.

Q: You played a lot of minutes. Coach Nate McMillan said you told team trainer Jay Jensen that you felt good.
A: “I just wanted to play. I’m done with the whole minutes thing. I just want to play. So I told Jay let’s just open it up and start playing and no more monitoring minutes.”
.........

From the interview, Roy sounds like he's going to be more aggresive from here on out and less cautious. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing for him and I don't know if it's a good or bad thing for the team. If he could play every game as well as tonight's game, then I guess it's a good thing.

It'll be interesting to see how Roy plays the next game with this new attitude.

It might just be me, but Freeman seemed to be asking some of the worst questions I've ever read ...

Hey, let him test his knees. I say why not? I think Roy, and the team, need to know what he is capable of. If he goes all out, and can only sustain it for a few games, we'll know what his limitations are.

"Roy, would you say your attitude is bigger than a bread box?"

"If your attitude were a rap artist who would be your DJ?"

Roy was awesome. Our bench was so awful that if we didn't play Roy as much as we did, we would've surely lost. Rudy needs to step the fuck up and take some pressure off Brandon.

Roy was fucking awesome tonight and totally stuck it to all the people in here who have written his obituary saying he's basely worthless and shouldn't be on the floor. Roy was the best player in the building tonight.

obviously been seeing enough of matthews....

I think Rudy just really sucks.

What a strange interview. Freeman keeps trying to bait Brandon into admitting . . . something, anything that he can write a story about. Roy's unhappy, Roy's bored (not engaged), Roy's affected by what people are saying, Brandon wants to prove his doubters wrong, Roy's knee is still hurting really bad but he's going to tough it out. And all Roy would give him is "It's between me - it's myself". Huh? Didn't learn much reading that pile of garbage.

Yeah, that was one bad interview.

barfo, you're not joking around as much in your posts... is something wrong? I notice a change in your demeanor. Are you enjoying this forum? From this post, you don’t seem engaged.

Translation: Andre and Matthews are playing really well, and I don't want to lose control of the ball

its funny... Roy gets less minutes and rests his knees then he feels good..a nd plays well..

Hmmm ya think there is something to that strategy of resting your knees with less minutes... IT WORKS

TRADE ROY while he is doing better....

This is pretty much a bad idea. Don't be surprised to hear the national media call out the Blazers training staff again.

I won't be surprised but it's obviously not the training staff's call. The Roy quote clearly says he's insisting on removing Jensen's minutes monitoring.

Again, you seem to be under the impression that the training staff calls the shots. That is almost never the case and it's obviously not the case here.

I never said the training staff calls the shots although they can do things like not clear a player to play or what have you. In the end it's up to the training staff to convince McMillan to reduce Roy's minutes because ultimately it comes down to how willing McMillan is to play Roy. If Jay Jensen can't get it through McMillan's head to keep Roy's minutes reduced then that is a shame. Roy can say he wants to play all he wants but in the end it isn't his decision. It's McMillan's decision while factoring in the advice from Jay Jensen.

True, didn't realize it showed. It's been a brutal couple of weeks. I will endeavor to be less grouchy going forward.

Marcus Camby's 16/18 would like a word with you.

Roy made it clear that Jensen's advice is to monitor his minutes. "Who's decision it is" boils down to who's voice is most important, and that may well be Roy's. Perhaps it is McMillan's. In pretty much no sports franchise is it the head of the training or medical staff.

Blaming Jensen (and maybe you're not...saying that the national media will is ambiguous as to where you, personally, stand) for giving advice to be cautious and then being ignored because Roy wants to let it rip is not reasonable, IMO.

Actually it is a ploy by Roy to help the Blazers. He is thinking that if he puts together some really good games (that All-Star form) that both the demand for him and his market value will rise and the Blazers will be able to get the best value for their damaged goods. He really wants to help his Blazers as much as possible and feels that, long term, the best way is to get himself into a position where a Roy for CP3 trade become highly desired by all parties involved.

Gramps...

Why's it a bad idea? Can any damage be caused by it? We've been told not.

As someone with Brandon's issue in one of my knees, I will tell you that the body's natural reaction to bone-on-bone is to produce fluid in the joint if it gets overworked. You can let it reabsorb over a few days, or you can put a needle in your knee that looks like a Cajun Flavor Injector for a turkey and drain it.

BTW, the minute restriction issue tells me his current level of play is likely the best we can expect from him.
