Both with large strong lower bodies that like to bang. Fez was commenting on my post where I acknowledged that Vonleh is more skilled on offense. But Mason like to use his the leverage of his lower body and try to push people off the block, had those long arms.......
 
I do love his ability to catch any pass in the post, even the shitty ones. That gives more room for error to gamble more offensively. It sucks that we had to give up Batum for him because he would be feeding this monster like crazy.

Don't people usually defend poor performances by big men in SL by saying that SL is a guard's league? I thought it was pretty rare for bigs to do anything noteworthy in SL. If that's the case, do good performances by bigs mean more than good performances by guards?

Summer League is one of those things where it seems like the only thing you can reliably extrapolate anything to the next level is piss poor performances.

I'm not talking about numbers or stats, but does the guy look overwhelmed or physically overmatched against inferior competition?

To Vonleh's credit it seems like that isn't the case, so at best we can say we have no cause for alarm, but I wouldn't read much more into it than that.
 
I agree Nik, there is so little you can really take away from summer league games. Usually it's shitty defense and lots of open court scores. What Im looking at is their feel for the game, do they give good help defense, do they lose their man easily on defense, on offense what is their weakness and strength, can they dribble with either hand, do they reposition themselves to open space when their teammates drive or the ball is in the post.

Only watched a few minutes of Montero but I really like what I see. Good handles, offensively skilled and just needs time playing at this level. Very low risk high reward type of player. I can see him being a contributor in 2-3 years.

Vonleh is going to be a very good player as long as he stays motivated. Great pick up by Neil.

Comparing stats in summer league for guys like Vonleh and Towns is silly. Eyeball test it's obvious Towns is going to be a stud! Vonleh will be good pro.
 
Vonleh's already got the three. It took Tex 9 years to add it. Vonleh at 19 has handles and driving ability Tex never will have. And while Tex could be a beast down low when he wanted to be, he didn't want to be. Vonleh seems perfectly at home playing physical.

Considering the circumstances, what we gave up and what we got, and considering where we're going, I'm both stoked and relieved that we got Noah.

That's just what we said in the past to make ourselves feel better about Nards.

(But he has finally started to come around.)
 
Legend averaged almost a double double in his first summer league, then he regressed. That's why we were disappointed.

Really? From what I saw (using the "eye ball" test), I thought both played fairly equally. Vonleh's pre-entry denial of Towns posting up was fairly impressive. Vonleh has a lot of unique skills that can be leveraged into being a dominate force... whether he (or Towns, or anyone else in Summer League) actually makes is a question for another day.

Vonleh is quite skilled for a 19 year old.
 
He can shoot. He works on the boards. He's not selfish. He can break a big man off the dribble. He's got footwork. There's a lot to like.
 
I know it's summer league, but he's been a minus on the plus/minus every game. Can anyone explain why?
