Is it just me, or does it seem that there is a lot more and quicker support to this tragedy as compared to hurricane Katrina? I don't remember this much outcry and worry for the people of New Orleans then there has been for Haiti. Maybe voodoo is involved? HHMMMMMM.....

I think there's more sympathy because it was unexpected and there were more deaths.

People knew those dams or levees in NOLA would burst and there was time to prep and/or evacuate.

Haiti is an international problem. NOLA was a domestic problem. The world weep and help Haiti, but no one outside the US was going to give NOLA any help.

The US actually refused offers of help from Germany and.. I think England. I'm not sure on the second one.

I'm an Emergency Management major and I can tell you that New Orleans was a huge fuckup on the federal level. FEMA really dropped the ball. The city and state officials were bad too, but FEMA took far too long to get aid in.

I'm just sayin, it looks like we are jumping to action a hell of a lot faster for Haiti, then our own god damned people!

How do you explain the difference between the situation in Louisiana vs. Mississippi. I put most of the blame on the Mayor of NO and the Governor of LA.

FEMA does deserve blame, sure. But the city and state governments deserve more. The people who ignored evacuation orders share blame, as well.

Especially all those old and crippled people with no transportation and all those sick and injured people in the hospitals. :tsktsk:

That's true. I mean, the United States has a third-world and do nothing about it. The Pine Ridge Indian reservation where there is 80% unemployment and a majority of those citizens live WAY below the poverty line.

We're all one people, dude. And this Haiti disaster is bigger than Katrina, I think.
