San Francisco began registering non-citizens, including undocumented immigrants, to register to vote Monday in the November election for the city school board, reported The San Francisco Chronicle.

The move follows passage of a 2016 ballot measure by San Francisco voters opening school elections to non-citizens who are over the age of 18, city residents and have children under age 19, reported the publication.

“This is no-brainer legislation,” Hillary Ronen, a San Francisco supervisor, told the Chronicle. “Why would we not want our parents invested in the education of their children?”

“We want to give immigrants the right to vote,” Norman Yee, also a county supervisor, told KGO.

But Harmeet Dhillon, who serves on the Republican National Committee, told the station she disagrees with those assessments.

“The reason I voted against it is that I think the right to vote is something that goes along with citizenship and should be,” Dhillon told KGO.

San Francisco became the first city in California to allow non-citizens to vote in local elections following passage of Measure N with 54 percent of the vote after two previous failed tries, reported KTVU.

There are concerns that the non-citizen voter registration rolls, which will be open, could be used to target people who entered the U.S. illegally, reported The San Francisco Examiner.

“Our immigrants, are they vulnerable? Absolutely,” Supervisor Sandra Lee Fewer told the publication. “But in San Francisco we stand strong together.”

President Donald Trump and California leaders have clashed repeatedly since the 2016 election over immigration enforcement, sanctuary cities and voter fraud allegations.

Community organizations, such as the Mission Economic Development Agency, plan to meet with non-citizens to inform them of the possible risks, the Examiner reported.

Chicago, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and some Maryland cities also allow non-citizen residents to vote in school board elections, reported KPIX.

The San Francisco measure allowing non-citizen voting expires in 2022 unless renewed by the board of supervisors, according to the Examiner.

The deadline to register to vote in San Francisco is Oct. 22 for the Nov. 6 election, according to the California Secretary of State’s Office.

"Hello., this is ICE. Can you please send us a list of the names and addresses of all of your non-citizen voters?

Thank you!"

ahh, that is the beauty in being a sanctuary state. Any co operation is punishable.

Voting rolls are public. Not hard to do a cross check of people who voted in all or most elections and only those who voted in school elections.

Sly...Sly...Sly, you speak as a reasonable being. Yet you fail to remember that this is the state that a judge will allow an illegal alien to slip out her private chambers back door to avoid the ICE officer waiting to pick him up.

You actually expect co operation of any kind? These kooks delight in defying immigration laws.

Most people don't even know who's running for school board...it's one of those boxes people check randomly on a ballot...most school board meetings are empty rooms as well.....I don't understand why they'd do this but like I said....school board? If they allow them to do it...it's not going to impact anything as far as politics is concerned. Might get candidates with Hispanic names a leg up on the ballot

Didn't say you were. Saying that if she wasn't such a phony lying flip flopper she'd have won. Then you all could sleep at night.

I own guns. I sleep just fine. - Sly answer.

I have a funeral of between 150-200 to plan for and coordinate this Saturday and family grieving and emotionally devastated. - Real answer.

Sorry. Forgot for some reason.

I know there's nothing I can do to help but I would if I could and please know my sarcasm was only about Trump.

I know.

My fault for not sharing more, just raw.
I'm again really sorry for your loss Sly....take whatever time you need but grieve and let it out ….I'm sure you have already...I know how much these things can hurt...wishing your family well in their time of need

My brother died a few months ago and it’s just been weird, my 3 year old still asks about where he’s at and I am not good at this kind of thing. Anyways this is about you not me, and I hope you and your family can find peace as you go through this.

Anyways onto the topic at hand - I don’t know Really know how I feel about this. I actually don’t seem to have as big of an issue with immigrants as many on my side of the aisle, people come here to find a better life quite often and I think they should be allowed to try to find it. It’s hard for me to grasp the idea that non citizens should have a vote though, but maybe that’s just me not thinking it through.

I feel your pain. My brother died in my arms. To this very day, 13 years later, I often shed a tear.

I’m really sorry to hear that, my brother died at 30 due to a seizure he had in his sleep that caused aphyxia. I actually neglected to go visit him the week before because I was dealing with stuff with my kids. Should’ve made time to see him... anyways sorry you had to go through that.

Hilarious that you say Clinton is a phony lying flip flopper but have been continually showing support for the biggest phony lying flip flopper in the history of the USA. You should rename yourself to bodyman hypocrite. :bgrin:
