I bought a solar panel from the power company on their grid for 1500....reduces my electric bill substantially...admittedly I have a small cabin and don't use a ton of electricity but for my needs..the solar investment has already almost paid itself off in savings.....it's very practical for lighting and appliances..probably not as good for a central heating unit....I use the woodstove for heat and an oil filled electric heater for the pump house and bathroom...I recommend supplementing your power grid with solar...

I already said you could get a gold medal for shooting at the olympics. That would make it a sport. You're saying it's a club.

It's like as soon as you see any post with the word gun in it you start arguing the opposite.

You couldn't be more wrong.

The true economics of Solar. For me at least.

About $40K to install a solar system that will generate all the power you need, plus double that to sell back to the power company. Your payments will be about $400/month but you have no electric bill.

When the power company changes its policy about buying back electricity at retail price (an unfair forcing of the company to subsidize solar), you will have your $400/month payment PLUS 1/2 a regular electric bill (e.g. what you use at night). The power company here already stopped buying back electricity generated.

People installing solar are going to be fucked. Solar is effectively 150% the cost of electricity sold by the electric company. In my case, $400/month is higher than my actual bill, but might be worthwhile to assure my monthly cost never goes over $400 for a couple of decades.

I cannot find a solar company that will install solar on my house. They say the economics doesn't support it.
It's because most tried selling leases on residential and are losing big time money. They come up with all the cost and need 7 years before they make profit on the houses. Total shitty business model unless you have money to float it for 8-10 years

I read a headline somewhere that said Las Vegas was now powered entirely by renewable energy. I'm sure it is complete bullshit made up by someone with an agenda but we are building more solar all over so it will probably end up true eventually.

I hope we all have solar soon
Read by candle at night. No TV after the sun goes down. No A/C at night, either. The Strip would go dark at night - all those lights and no power.

The dam generates plenty of power for the city and surrounding area. It's sent to LA, though.

Batteries

At least Obama protected water areas from drilling Da world.jpg

Due to the increasing focus on batteries, OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) are building dedicated battery factories to meet demand like Tesla's Gigafactory or more recent Daimler's second battery factory in Kamenz, Germany," explained Ben Scott, senior automotive and e-mobility analyst at I H S Markit, to CNBC via email.

Not enough lithium on the planet. Like there's enough for 1% of all the cars in the US if we wanted them all electric.

Lithium Ion has been great for my power tools but it isn't the ultimate battery by any stretch. I hate them when they get old and just die.

Good news, no?

I think those of us with 401Ks would be happy about this news.

I scheduled an appt with my adviser to diversify my portfolio a bit more. I need some advice on what will boom with Trump now.
