BRENTWOOD, Mo. -- The president of Nordstrom Rack was to fly to St. Louis to personally apologize to three black teens falsely accused of theft at the chain's Brentwood Square store, reports CBS St. Louis affiliate KMOV-TV. Mekhi Lee, Dirone Taylor and Eric Rogers II were shopping for prom clothes when they started noticing several of the employees watching them and following them around the store.

"I was nervous the whole time," Lee recalled. "Every time we move, they move. When we looked up, they looked up."

After they left the store, they were surrounded by Brentwood Police in the parking lot. Police told them the store had accused them of theft. After an investigation on the spot, police let the three go without charges.

"The police were actually good. They understood where we were coming from and they showed us that they were just doing their job," said Rogers.

In addition to the theft accusations, the teens said a customer in the store called them punks and allegedly asked them, "Are your parents proud of you for what you do?" In defending themselves, the three say an altercation broke out between them and the customer, and a store management stepped in.

"I knew it was coming, but at the same time, I was feeling embarrassed, agitated, mixed emotions with the whole situation because I know we didn't deserve it," said Taylor.

While the boys were in the store, they did purchase something. They say they did it to prove a point.

"We made the purchase to show them that we're equal and we didn't have to steal anything," said Rogers.

The St. Louis NAACP says its getting involved and wants to work with Nordstrom Rack President Geevy Thomas on how he will handle the with employees.

"The discussion has to have some sustenance, it needs to be strategic, and it needs to have some measurable outcomes," said Adolphus Pruitt, President of the St. Louis NAACP.

In a statement to News 4, Nordstrom Rack said it was trying to address a verbal altercation in the store at the time: "We did not handle this situation well and we apologized to these young men and their families. We want all customers to feel welcome when they shop with us and we do not tolerate discrimination of any kind."

Sounds like they ditched the swag and bought a token item to cover their ass? :dunno:

One employee suspected shoplifting, told other employees, then...Why did the employees tell other customers?

Yeah, as someone who gets away with shit, sounds like they were trying to get away with shit.

Are white people never wrongly accused or treated unfairly? Or does it just not ever get blown up by the media because it doesn't create outrage? :rolleyes2:

Driving dirty old pickup trucks and boats, does draw flies.

Sounds like the employees were watching these guys closely, expecting them to shoplift. Going as far as following them around the store. Then another customer accused them of stealing and seemed to be sterotyping them and was possibly racist. (Or the other customer really saw thrm steal something and called them out IDK...its not clear here...though if they did indeed try to shoplift it would be on camera and they would have gotten in trouble, which they didn't) So, as far as I can tell its employees and a customer who are racist and sterotypical. From what I see here these kids did nothing wrong. Is this article the whole story, I don't know but until I hear otherwise these boys are innocent.

How does it sound that way? Where is your proof?

They could have said we bought something because we came to buy something. Your lucky we didn't bring our business elsewhere...but hey they have the store and other customers in it stereotyping them and following them around. I'd feel uncomfortable too. Hell, I'd bring my business elsewhere. But, they might be treated the same elsewhere. That sucks.

THIS IS THE SHIT THAT WILL HAPPEN IF WE CHASE BLACK PEOPLE AWAY FROM OUR MALLS! THIS SHOULD NEVER BE A TREND.

White girls who have a terrible misunderstanding of fashion?

I haven't searched for it but I remember posting about how I saw the black kid employed at Winco come out of the bathroom stall and not wash his hands.

I felt like ratting him out because that's gross but didn't partly because someone might think I did it cuz he was black. Dviss said I was wrong for treating him differently if I remember correctly.

I have seen many white people not wash their hands after going to the bathroom. I have seen a great diversity of people do that. Thats not a race thing, thats a nasty thing.

Damn, how did that call go?

911: 911, what's your emergency?

Caller: There is a black person in the common room of my dorm. Can you please send help immediately?

911: Stay on the phone

Caller: I don't know if I can, she might wake up.

"Sounds like they were sleeping during the day so they can do crimes at night."

Not what I meant. I've seen all races of people not wash their hands. This kid worked at the store and the bathroom had a sign saying employees caught not washing their hands would be fired. I didn't rat him out because he was black. Partly anyway. I probably wouldn't have ratted out a white guy either but his race made it less likely.

Ive seen people who work at stores and resturaunts do that. People I've worked with. I just tell them to wash their fucking hands cause thats nasty.

There is a mall in North Bend, Pony Village. I don't believe I have ever seen a Black person there. Each year, you see less people of any description, probably due to the stores closing one by one. err, maybe it's the other way around.
Do you suppose this might be trending in other places too?

Damned if I know. Apparently nothing in Coos Bay is an attraction.

I've heard multiple stories about the stuff that goes in and out of the Port of Coos Bay. If you want to import or export something illegal on the west coast that is the port to use. Deep water port with very few people to pay off.

Near as I can tell, the Port of Coos Bay is in a completing state of dereliction. I see nothing coming in and nothing but logs and chips shipping out. Not to say that is different than any other Oregon Port.

The Navy wanted to build a base there....great deep water port...locals kept voting it down I heard...would've been great for the economy to have it be a port town for the Navy

I don't recall having a vote on the idea. I would have voted yeah.

Maybe it was a State decision but I remember reading about it...the Navy at the time thought it was one of the 3 best ports for a base on the west coast
