Right, I assume they would have a Hunwick type on the roster to fill in, and then find the longer-term solution later in the year a la Yandle this year. Where I differ is I dont want to just "give Mac some games" because he wont get better that way. Assuming he earns it in camp, I want him to be the guy to start the year.
 
so lets get rid of Boyle who wasn't as bad as everyone made him out to be and instead put in McIlrath ..lets lose more offense for a traffic cone only because the kid can fight...so he fights...and he sits in the box and allow Girardi, Staal Yandel and McD have to log more minutes
 
I personally don't think I would put that type of faith in Mac, and I bet the Rangers don't either. I want a legit vet in here on day 1 to be that guy and let Mac learn from him and the other dmen while practicing with the team and playing in games when needed.

That's just my opinion.
 
Al, nobody on here mentioned fighting. I dont want him to fight, I want him to play physical yet responsible defense.

The Boyle decision, in my opinion, is strictly salary cap related. I dont think we need both Yandle and Boyle. Yandle is the better player with a better contract. Boyle's money can be used elsewhere.

I said from the start, stay or go I don't care that much with regards to Boyle. If it can save us 1 or 2 mill and we can replace him with another decent vet for less, I am cool with that. If not I am cool with Boyle staying as well.
 
I'm cool with Boyle staying as well. But we all keep saying we need a big winger who can score in the dirty areas. Guys like that aren't free. Subbing out Boyle for McIlrath is a way to save a couple mil and get us that guy. It's just an idea.

Not happening 71 as boyle rd and skjei is ld and not compatible. Its big mac for boyle and when skjei comes up he's replacing either yandle or staal
 
I am amazed that staal played through a fractured ankle which explains the awkwardness we saw with him and mcd 4 games with a broken foot. I've had both and can't imagine how either guy was able to do this. And chuck, yandle would not be moved for a big d-man as that would be big mac for boyle. Imo he would be moved not only to make room for skjei but also because of his great contract (for one year) he could bring us back the big winger with fire that this team desperately needs. And after watching him yandle to me is far from irreplaceable.
 
Right, and let's go play for a cup with two unproven not highly rated rookie dmen in our top 6. I see the logic. If you guys bit*h about our D now...my lord.

I agree though, 50 point dmen are a dime a dozen. I believe he is the only dman to do it the last 4 seasons, but very replaceable for sure...LOL.
 
They gave up a top prospect, Moore and a draft pick for Yandle at the deadline. Now suddenly he's going to be gone? Please stop it.
 
It doesn't stop Mess. Like I said at the end of the game Friday night, this will be a fun few weeks on the board with all the nonsense. Let's trade EVERYONE and break it all down. Then have two unproven rookies in the top 6 on D and go win a cup...LOL.
 
No lets keep everyone resign msl for 2 to 3 mill ho ho ho bring them all back for more futility. Must assess where team is weak then address those weaknesses whatever and wherever they are.
 
OR we can do what a few of us have been saying. Instead of worrying about the D...WHICH WAS NOT THE ISSUE...let MSL go, resign Hags to a deal around 3 mill +/-, deal Talbot for a piece and to save a little money, add a R shot top 9 gritty winger, and go from there.
 
Typical Chuck. Sell off the entire future to go for it now. Never play kids. Incredible. Absolutely know clue how to build a team that will be good in the present and future.
 
Interesting...what future do I want to sell off? Did I not say bring Mac up and let him be the # 7 pairing with a vet at # 6? Did I not say get rid of OLD MSL, assuming Hags is reasonable, and bring in a gritty top 9 R shot winger?

You are right, I don't want to play two totally unproven rookies in the top 6 on D, that is ridiculous for a cup contending team. But I didn't say trade Mac or Skjei, I simply said no shot I have them as 5 and 6 on D next season. Leave Mac on the team as the 7th dman who will play a lot of games as 7th dmen always do in a LONG 82 game marathon.

Just because you live in fantasy land and see what you want to see doesn't make it true dump...:).
 
I guess it was lost on some that the team used 3 unproven forwards this year who without, wouldn't have even made it thru the 2nd round not to mention had home ice. The most stupid comment in sports is unproven. That's why you play. You know, so you actually have a chance to prove yourself. You know, that's what the 82 regular season games are for. You know, to prove yourself.
 
Having a couple of forwards play is WAY different than on D and you know that. D is way harder to learn and be good at than forward. And where did Miller start? And where did Fast start? EXACTLY WHERE I WANT MAC TO START. Leave him up here as the 7th dman. Let him learn to be a pro. Let him practice with the team. Let him plays some games as ALL 7th dmen do over a long 82 game season. I am on board with that. And if he plays well guess what...he will get more and more time. We all know that. I hope it plays out that way.

What is crazy is getting rid of Yandle and his great contract, and Boyle, and letting two rookies start the season in your top 6 on D for a cup hopeful team. That will not happen...period. The top 5 dmen are staying. Boyle may go, which is fine to me. Another vet will be brought in most likely, and hopefully Mac gets in the mix as well. That's how I would play it.

But I will also add it is COMICAL we have been wasting all this time talking about the D and Mac WHEN THAT WASN'T THE REASON WE LOST ANYWAY. We lost because AGAIN we couldn't score as all those 2-1 games against Pitt showed, as all the low scoring 1 goal L's showed, as games 5 & 7 showed losing both 2-0.

OFFENSE was the issue...not the D. Yet here are all you guys going on and on about the D and Mac...it is ridiculous frankly.
 
I don't want to hear any of this crap about injuries. They looked like crap against Pitt who had far more injuries. They basically needed Holtby to whiff on an easy save by Kreider or they were out in the second round. They looked like garbage in every game but one vs. Tampa. Even in that game Hank had to bail them out. They were flawed as I said all year. They were not built for the playoffs. It was obvious. They are too soft, have little to no ability to score garbage goals and are too easy to play against. That requires significant changes. Their farm also sucks for the most part now because Sather keeps destroying it.
 
Significant changes...LOL. Sather ruined the farm, you loved it a few months ago and you loved the Yandle trade when it was made, now it is ruined and the deal was terrible.

it was pure luck right....having the best record in the NHL, LUCK....best road team in the NHL...luck...barely get passed a Pens team in 5 games...pure luck...winning 3 elimination games to save the series against Washington...my god luck...they ate a lot of Lucky Charms this year.

I would love to hear what you consider a team that doesn't have luck and is pure skill, not to mention that team that has tons of crease clearing defensemen who can score as well.

Please show me that team that has no flaws..and no luck. Would love to see this list
 
Pierre basically was point out how stupid the Rangers were for bringing in relics like St. Louis and Boyle. Last year St. Louis still had something left. He must have said hockey is a young mans game about 5 times. Unfortunately, Sather took Chucks moronic philosophy and trades everything for relics to go for it now. Didn't work and now the farm is severely depleted.
 
smh...yeah the trade for MSL didn't work out to well last year, only made the SCF, imagine if they won the cup..OMG what would you have said then?

so they gave up 2 first rounders but got a second round pick back, wouldn't say that is trading away everything, going a bit overboard there especially when there were doubts that the Cally would have resigned for a reasonable contract and you got back a guy who scores tons of goals..but yeah traded away everything...

and last I checked they signed Boyle as a free agent, giving up....NOTHING.

You want to bitch they gave up too much to get Yandel, fine but again Duke was not bringing a cup to this team in the next year or two, you know the prime years of your best player.

I guess he gave away everything when he picked up Kevin Hayes too right?
 
They're trying to win a cup while Hank is still viable. Three ECF in four years is not failure. They just haven't gotten over the hump. Sure they can use some help but significant changes is not realistic.

MSL scored 20 this season. Without MSL we don't make the SCF last season. Do you want Cally here at a 6.2 mill cap hit +/-? Oh no we gave up pick 29 and pick 28. We also got back a pick in the 50's.

We gave up NOTHING for Boyle as Al said, so how is that dealing the future?

And AGAIN you loved the Yandle deal, so now you are going to cry about dealing Duke, who we don't even know what he will be as a player. He will score pretty goals and get some points, but does he translate into a playoff dirty scorer? We'll see on that front, and I say right now I rather have Miller long term.

So spare us all the nonsense dump...please. This team does not need a major overhaul. On the plus side, I am happy you are interested in discussing Rangers hockey again after sleeping through playoff games and watching the NFL draft instead.
 
Pretty sure everyone on this board loved the St Louis trade. He was coming off 94, 90,74 and 60 pts in 48 gms with TB seasons. Historically he keeps himself in great shape and has been a great playoff guy. Besides, they couldn't give Cally what he wanted. Yes the #1 picks sukkkked but nobody would guess MLS would fall of a cliff so dramatically. He had 60 points in 48 games with TB when he was traded!

I think if there is one thing that led to the Rangers not advancing its St Louis going from 39 to 50 overnight. He just was never very good here. Better in the playoffs last year than reg season. Had an ok reg season this year and a terrible playoffs. It didn't work out. Doesn't mean Sather was dumb to do that trade. I for one would rather see him get creative like that trade then do nothing in 2012 when everyone knew they needed another scorer.

Way too much Monday morning QBing in this forum. In retrospect the trade doesn't look very good but at least they are not paying Cally 6m to score 1 goal in the playoffs the next 5+ seasons
