Technically we can still negotiate a sign and trade for any of our outgoing guys, right? Assuming, of course the other team is willing to cooperate?

True, but I'm not sure Dallas or NY have anything to offer us put bad contracts.

What are you thinking?

Nothing specific, just curious about the rules. I wouldn't mind getting Patty Mills back somehow, although he's probably part of the reason LaMarcus chose San Antonio...

Aldridge fucked us in the ass with no lube. There are no workarounds. Its a done deal

LA let Neil know in 2013 that he wanted out.

There was plenty of time to avoid losing him for capspace - which is near worthless in this market.

This is 100% on Neil AND Paul.

No. Aldridge said what he said about staying. Even if Neil told him to say it it's on Aldridge for saying it. He can take a giant dildo. And stick it up his ass

San Antonio has very little cap room and cannot afford to send back a useful player on a cheap contract.

Right. But it's allowable under the CBA, right?

They don't have to, so why would they?

Serious question, I don't fully understand the incentive to S&T an UFA.

I'm not asking would or should. I'm asking could. As in do the rules allow it.

As far as I know, it is still allowed under the new CBA - just more difficult than it used to be.

It's possible, even feasable, regardless of what people are saying in this thread. Here's an example:
Dallas wants to get rid of a bad contract. They sign and trade Aminu + Bad contract + 1st rounder for the rights to Joe Eurostash.

That kind of trade can happen.

No way should we give up Joe Eurostash! He's going to be a star.

Split the question into "S&T a UFA to a team with cap room" and "S&T a UFA to a team without enough cap room for the contract they want to sign"

The two scenarios are SAS and MIA:
1) SAS traded away enough salary to be able to make a max offer to LMA with no strings attached. if he wanted to come there, they could pay him and it'd be done. That's (I'm pretty sure) what's going to happen after the flurry of trades and waivers and renunciations happens on the 9th (1st day after the moratorium, to answer the title question).

2) MIA wanted to give LMA the max contract, but they did not have cap space. So even if LMA had had his socks blown off and wanted to sign MIA's max contract, their lack of cap room meant they had to do a S&T. So getting LMA to sign is just the first part. Next they have to offer us enough compensation back to a) make the trade legal under the exceptions rules they're living under, b) make us happy to package LMA up for them and send him, and c) keep enough team talent to ensure LMA really signs. It's much harder.

SAS was in Camp #2 until they traded Splitter, which put them into camp 1. They don't need to give us anything. They already did what they needed to do to make it work.

I'm not sure what Dallas has but I'd take Justin Anderson and an expiring or two. Sure let it be felton, just waive him.

But we already gave Joe Eurostash to Dallas. His name is Petteri, and I want him back!
