Now I have to hear a year of this worthless Derek Jeter crap

We can agree to disagree but I will leave you with this:

Hitting .300 isn't great
20 SB isn't great
.350 OBP isn't great
200 hits isn't great when you have 700 plate appearances
Slugging .450 isn't great
OPS of .850 isn't great

Those are all good numbers and that is exactly my point. Jeter had a career of putting together good seasons which all adds up to a great career because he did it well longer then most.

if anybody could find out, I would love to know how many infield singles Jeter has had in his career. Thanks.

And I'll leave you with this, they are great when you're comparing him with players on his level. Several of which are in the HOF.

The real problem is that people are forgetting that Jeter played in the steroid era where guys had ridiculously inflated offensive numbers. If you want to use those numbers and standards as the definition of great than so be it.

if i had to guess it would be about 100, the same amount of 1 who has that many posts to their SN

Rick is the typical lost yankee clown. The fact that people keep saying how good a hitter he is “for a shortstop” is a great example of why he's so overrated. He is NOT a shortstop. He poses as one and is a hack at the position (below replacement level for 9 out of past 10yrs) but is too much of an ego-maniac to have ever switched positions.
To boot, when comparing Jeter, whose claim to fame is his offense, we’re not supposed to compare him to other offensive shortstops, but only to light hitting ones who were known for their defense rather than their offense, lol. Can’t make this stuff up. Only in lost yankee-land.

Go ahead and compare him to other offensive shortstops. He has a much higher lifetime batting average and more hits than all of them except Honus Wagner. Either you're just a Yankee/Jeter hater or you don't know enough about the sport and the players who played in it. The comments are just becoming more and more ridiculous.

Baseball is a sport for queers. Who cares. It's the only sport where you can be fat, weak and a drunk and still play well. It's the only sport where you don't have to play hard during games and still put up numbers. It's boring. Baseball is done. The fact morons still talk about it on the radio is sad. It's an old man sport. The younger crowd has moved on.

Interesting Rick. By WAR Jeter is most comparable to Larkin and Trammell. Neither of which the world stopped to give them a farewell tour.

baseball reference also has a "similarity score" section and looks at comparable players. For Cpt Jetes it's Craig Biggio. Where was Biggio's farewell tour and video tribute and lip service from MLB?

Jeter is so damn overrated.

So the real reason for all this crying is because Jeter is getting a farewell tour?

Must be Vic, and lets not forget that according to the mental-midget 31 whose knowledge of the game couldn't fill up a thimble, that all the tributes that Jeter is getting from the players past & present are all because the guy is over-rated.

Can't stand Yankees, but very difficult to make a case against Jeter. Not only his numbers, but shined in the biggest moments when it counted the most. Soooo many clutch hits. Don't believe he deserves his God like status from NY reporters. For Jetes', it's baseball and babes and not necessarily in that order. Will probably retreat to his 5 story palace in Florida with his harum.

Yeah that would be my guess.

I responded to this earlier Vic but the mental midget 31 who by some miracle is also the mod here didn't appreciate my response & deleted it.

Should probably request this thread be locked by the admins. It's gotten pointless now. Facts have been shown time and again about how overrated he is but the fanboys don't listen. You can only lead a horse to the water.....

The thread was dumb the second it started. That being said asking for a thread to be locked because everyone doesn't agree with you is pretty humorous. Not to mention calling somebody overrated is an opinion not a fact. Everyone doesn't share your opinion nor do they have to.

I agree Vic. Not only does he want to close down a thread because everyone doesn't agree with him but he's also been deleting posts that don't agree with him. Hell, this should be the 3rd one of mine he deletes. The really scary thing is having a mental midget like him leading this board. The title of this thread should have been "Time for me to start another stupid thread".

Okay kid.............................delete away.

No, the thread should get locked because there is nothing else constructive to be said. Disturbed/myself/others have already expressed, with stats, why he's overrated and overhyped, and you/mrmel and the rest of the fanboys have already expressed why "he's not". Not much else is left.

You have expressed you know nothing about baseball and that's about it.

lol, see, yet another sensitive yankee fan who gets defensive when someone doesn't agree with their idolization of Mr. Overrated. Like clockwork.

I know you'll probably delete this post also M.M. But it shouldn't have been started because it sounds like it came from a kid who's still mad at mom & dad for taking his computer privileges away. And please don't try holding hands with disturbed on this topic, at least he showed some class acknowledging that Jeter is indeed a great player, your posts were just filled with hate for the guy.

Okay, go ahead & delete this before anyone else see it.

The only defensive one is yourself when somebody doesn't agree with you. You obviously have over the top hate for Jeter for whatever reason.

I'm not the one claiming you "don't know anything about baseball" b/c you don't agree with me. It's you and the fanboys who have their panties in a bunch over someone not agreeing with the idolization of Capt. Jetes.

He's listed there with an awful lot of HoFers.

Sabermetrics are hardly embraced by the baseball community as a whole but they do make for a lame baseball movie and are hardly are the final say on a players ability. How many rings has that guru of Sabermetrics Billy Beane won? Today's scouts still use the 5 tool formula not Sabermetrics.

Youth baseball/softball is alive and well in my town as well and like Al I also coach and have seen it's popularity first hand throughout the Metro area. Jeter's the guy you can tell your son/daughter to emulate, a humble, class act with prolific numbers that no shortstop who played by the rules can compare to. As far as the farewell tour goes that's simply other team's owners showing their appreciation to the Captain for the yearly sellouts in otherwise empty stadiums when the Yankees come to town. Seems like there are 2 haters versus the rest of the posters who appreciate Jeter's ability to some degree.

You like to talk down to people, insult and call fan boys so I think it's acceptable I say you know nothing about baseball.

Panzer: I agree saberstats have gone too far with a ridiculous amount of metrics, but simple stats like OPS have been around forever and are basically universally understood by everyone. It is a fact, not an opinion, that Jeter has a .728 OPS in the past 5yrs, which is below average for the position on top of being a defensive hack.

I also don't think it's fair to discount Beane or James (who does a lot of the stat stuff) for not having any rings. This isn't tennis or golf but a team sport. If Jeter had been drafted by the Pirates, he'd have 0 rings as well.
