OK, I know Oden is still recuperating, and still learning the ropes, but for God's sake, when is he going to come alive and show us something???? Most games I don't care if he's camping out on the bench, but he was totally invisible tonight, and it's happening too much lately. Just a decent, mediocre game from Oden probably would have made a difference in this game, and his slow development is really starting to irritate me.

Where is the Oden we were promised, that's what I want to know . . .

Honestly, I wish Nate would just leave him in. Foul out if he must. I really don't care. If he fouls out, we have Joel. He needs to play and he needs to learn from his mistakes. I remember seeing this same shit with Jermaine O'Neal. Just let him play.

Nate's getting too caught up with winning this year. He needs to think about 2 years down the road when the Blazers will REALLY be competing for championships. Right now he needs this team to gell, and one of those tasks is getting Greg Oden on the floor for 35 minutes a game, or until he fouls out, with the main players that will be part of that nucleus. The kid's just 20 years old. The NBA is obviously a harder transition for him than we expected, especially after sitting out an entire year with a major league injury.

I read a post at Oregon Live a minute ago and it's true. He doesn't run the court, he really does run the floor like how Sabonis ran it during his Blazer days. It's not pretty.

He's out of sync in a big way. That's what a year off from basketball will do to a ball player. But right now he's not "worth the wait."

He's a rookie. These things take time. Even if he is a bust, you should still consider yourself lucky for having Roy, Aldridge, Rudy, and Batum pan out better than you expected.

If it's any consolation I'm sure he's harder on himself than anyone on this Forum, except maybe Mixum

When is the last time that there was a player with as much talent as Oden that played with so much indifference?

Darius Miles didn't play with indifference when he looked like he might be talented. He used to dunk it and then like do that crazy thing where he flapped his arms against his head.

Trust me, Darius was pretty indifferent about the game of basketball.

HEY, I always wanted to kow why Darius did that crazy thing with his hands to his head ? Was it "Hey I'm a Devil ? "

Can someone help ? Thanks

why do most of the posters on here sound like they know nothing about basketball? WHERE IS THE ODEN I WAS PROMISED. seriously, give the guy some time. not only did he spend a year out of the game but he's recovering from microfracture surgery. listen to amare or zach, they all say it took two years before they felt comfortable in their game. not to mention he's a rookie big man, and many of those don't come into the nba and light it on fire in their first season. lay off the guy and let him develop.

It's apparently because there's no middle ground around here and very few people like to keep an even keel.

Lose a game - whether by 1 point or 20 - and it's the end of the world. Fire the coach. Trade 2/3rd of the team. Get a new arena because this one is cursed by the Ghost of Petrovich.

Win a game and we're booked for the finals and winning the first of our next dozen titles beginning this year.

Rinse . . . lather . . . and repeat for the next game.

I'm as patient with Greg as anyone, but I will say that it's disappointing to see almost no fire in the guy.

"Just wanting to fit in with the rest of the fellas" wasn't what I was hoping for when we drafted him. He needs to want to dominate. If he doesn't, he will probably settle into being a 14/10 player. Not bad by any means, but not exactly superstar material.

This is so sickening...after every loss, someone makes a fucking thread crying and complaining about the most stupid shit...it never fails. Yet everyone
continues to feed the trolls. Why acknowledge it?

I tried to told em. Ya'll just didnt want to accept it over the summer, but all the signs of this were there. But I guess im just a hater tho even tho my assessments were spot on.... who knew?

Ive been say he will take time from dia uno!

sorry i know better but it gets the better of me sometimes. seriously this is the reason i don't post a lot on here, instead i read in the insane posts laugh/mock them and move on.

I wish Greg would show more enthusiasm. Maybe it's just the wrinkles in his old face that don't let me see it. He just strikes me as one of those guys who doesn't love the game of basketball, but has played it because of his height and ability for the game. I have no doubt that spending over a year recuperating from a "preventative" surgery couldn't have helped his determination and mental strength.

Remember when Pryzbilla dunked after that sweet pass from Rudy (between Howard's legs) tonight? The fist-pump? You see that from most players. Roy, LMA, and Rudy (maybe particularly him) play with a lot more emotion. I don't ever see it from Oden. And it isn't deer in the headlights. Batum shows good spirits.

It's a result of having the weight of the world on his shoulders. I'm sure that Oden is putting more pressure on himself than he should, particularly with how good the rest of the team is. This guy was the most heralded HS prospect outside of LBJ in the last twenty years.

So the other guys on the team have experienced success and are in good mental states. The other rookies don't feel a ton of pressure and are just happy to be playing on a great team in the best league in the world. Oden is kind of a rare case, we have to admit.

Am I frustrated? You bet. I wish that he could get his mental place fixed. But that's easier said than done. The Blazers should make a call into Tony Robbins. He could look Oden in the eye (he's really tall himself - like 6'7") and pump him up. I just hope that Oden can acquire (or re-acquire) a passionate, emotional love of the game. That's what is holding him back from being the next dominant big man.

I don't think it's trolling to be critical of Oden. He's a number 1 pick with the most hype since Lebron. He's played a good handful of games and I think it's fair to assess him as a player regardless of whether he's a rookie coming off injury or not.

And right now what concerns me is his uninspired demeanor. It may not mean much in the end, he could still turn out great, but Oden doesn't look like a guy with a whole lot of fire in his belly.

But Greg says his knee is fine. And certainly, Amare and ZBo played much much better than this when they returned from their surgeries.

Oden doesn't look uninterested - he looks like a mixture of anxious and depressed. Every call that goes against him it's like "oh no, not again".

I think it's a mixture of psychological and physical. I'm sure he feels like his body has betrayed him and he's not sure if he'll ever feel as good as he did before the surgery, and I think he really does feel like he's let a lot of people down and it's just snowballing. I remember the stories about how the first thing he did coming out of surgery was apologize and you've got to feel for him.

I just hope he's not literally clinically depressed.

On a related note, does anyone know what's happening with his dog (Charles Barkley McLovin)? I heard that it was blind.

him and q rich did it as if they were pulling alien antennae out of their heads.

The nets fan went through the microfracture-obsession phase when Kidd went through it. One thing we discovered was that there is a huge difference in rehab times (and success) depending on whether the microfracture surgery was on a weight-bearing on non-weight-bearing part of the knee. In Kidd's case, it was in a non-weight-bearing portion, and he was back on the court at a high level relatively quickly. I THINK that was the case in Amare's as well, but I'm not 100% sure. I'd probably recommend that you do some digging into the details of Oden's surgery.
