When it rains it fucking pours.

Here we go….more ammunition for speculation about Portland’s alleged unhappy and unhealthy locker room.

When it was learned prior to tip-off against the Houston Rockets on Saturday night that Rudy Fernandez was a last minute scratch from the Blazers lineup, something seemed unusual.

Back trouble is nothing to take lightly (take it from someone who knows), so it’s no joke when word came from Portland that Fernandez was suffering from sciatic pain in his back. However, what is odd is the lingering results of his MRI (which he was expected to undergo on Saturday night) and his status going forward as the Oregonian’s Jason Quick described prior to the start of Portland/New York on Monday night.

To simplify the report: the Blazers and Fernandez are seeking a second opinion, although Kevin Pritchard would not confirm that report. Pritchard also said when asked that he couldn’t remember if Fernandez had an MRI done. Brandon Roy was told Rudy would miss games in New York and Indiana, while interim head coach Dean Demopoulos is uncertain of Fernandez’ status.

Cleary, the organization is not “on message”.

Instead, the door is now open for rumor winds to blow freely about Rudy’s overall health and happiness with his role and minutes in Portland.

This isn't the first time Rudy's name has been associated with an injury or even being unhappy with his situation in Portland (see the offseason story about him being upset about Hedo Turkoglu coming to the Blazers).

Something tells me this isn't the last we'll hear of it either.

Great.

Lets ride this one out and do nothing.

How does questions about his MRI equal he wants out? Seems like a leap from the author

Well, it's no secret that Rudy wasn't totally happy with his role and playing time.

Short of starting, I don't know how many more minutes he expects to get.

I'm going to go ahead and put a big damper on this thread.

For the first time since winning the #1 pick we now no longer know what the Blazers future holds for us. All of this could turn out to be one big fail.

If he's healthy trade his ass, we could get someone good for a healthy Rudy!

calm down guys...if he wants out then fine, we will get something pretty nice back, and hopefully at a different position than our best player.

So basically Wendell Maxey took members of the team not knowing whether Rudy got his MRI yet to randomly suggest there are trade winds blowing and Rudy is unhappy. What fantastic sensationalism.

I don't think this is what Blazer fans need right now; bullshit speculation by fuckin' Wendell Maxey and Dwight James on which Blazers want out! What a couple of jerks!

Maxey is usually very careful about what he writes and tends to avoid sensationalism at almost all costs ... or at least he has in the past, which is part of the reason he terminated his association with Hoopsworld last year.

If he's saying this much, chances are he's heard more and simply hasn't printed it because he doesn't feel comfortable going all the way.

All I can say is that I wouldn't be totally surprised if Rudy wants out, and I'll happily send him on his way and hope for a real small forward or a flex 4 in the deal.

Or maybe his back hurts?

Well, how many dates do we have to go on before he's ready?

Congratulations on being hired as KP's replacement.

He's going to get to play more - this team is in desperate need of offense. Frankly with him out tonight, we had nobody on the perimeter to worry about (unless you count Martell) which is devastating when you don't have a post presence either!

We need to score more points - Rudy can help with that.

I bet he's a lot more unhappy with the state of his back. He wasn't given minutes last year, he earned them and did a lot with them. This year in preseason Nate spoke to wanting to put the ball in his hands a lot more and allowing him to be one of the team's main creators. Unfortunately he has been noticeably less effective this season with reports of back issues dating back to the preseason.

But please don't let me detour your latest waaaah fest with more reasonable speculations.

Well, now it seems that you are also speculating (in thinking Maxey has heard more); I'm just saying that at difficult times like these, correspondents need to be really careful what they are throwing out there.

I'm just talking about Maxey's track record which has been pretty stellar in the 2 or 3 years I've been reading his articles and blog posts. As for the story above he really only seems to be suggesting that this kind of thing will fuel speculation about Rudy, not that there is any kind of imminent trade, or big rift.

Doesn't the discrepancy seem just a little odd though?

I don't really see any discrepancy. I'm not surprised that the substitute coach, with all he is trying to figure out, doesn't know what is going on. I'm also not surprised that KP, with all he has on his mind right now, doesn't know if Rudy had an MRI or not. I don't think there is a story here and it shouldn't have been written.

Rudy has chronic back problems vs Rudy is a malcontent who wants out.

Is there a *good* option here?

Yes, there is.
Rudy knows a secret Spanish cure for broken kneecaps, and he's in Portland tending to Oden right now. That's why he missed the trip and why no one knows about his MRI.

I'd rather he just deposited his salary directly into my bank account.

But yours is good, too.
