Now that we got a glimpse of McCollum

Very underwhelming. But his shot is not dropping. I could see moving this guy and him blowing up. I still think he has game and quite a bit. For whatever reason it's coming through at the moment. Someone has a noose and harness on the teams bench. No explanation for it.

I think he can be a very good scorer. The other parts of his game aren't going to get much better, but a guy off of the bench who can score inside and outside is a luxury many teams don't have.

His time isn't right now, though. I really hope he has a breakout game against the Knicks. 4-5 on 3s, a few assists, and gets his confidence going again.

I've been warning you guys since I first watched him in Summer League. I was the first to start the mantra. "He is no Lillard." He is no great find or bargain. He's about what you usually expect at his draft position. Like most, he will take a year or two to become dependable, our new Matthews. Even then, he will be no Lillard, not as good of a shooter or playmaker.

You expect him to produce instantly like Lillard. That is very rare.

Nobody was expecting Lillard. I was hoping for maybe 6-8 points off the bench in 10-12 minutes.

I think you are probably correct.

idk. i seem to remember someone around here have said he would be the starter while lillard would be the super 6th man.

McCollum has reached a unique achievement.

His WS/48 is now -.002. He's in rare company.

Posters using CJs stats to make conclusions about how well or poorly he's playing or expectations for the future are being a bit unreasonable. The sample size is so small you can't make any meaningful conclusions.

He's taken all of 64 shots in his entire NBA career and has played 178 minutes.

IMO, at this point we can only make comments and thoughts based on the way his game looks and the way he plays.

Which is exactly what I'm doing. Basing my evaluation on what he's doing now, and not what he may do in the future.

Here is the original question in the thread:

To be better than his current stats. Hopefully he'll be out of the rotation soon if he doesn't turn it around, and I won't have to complain about his shitty play.

The guy really needs a breakout game in a big way, and soon. Maybe getting back to the northeast tomorrow night at MSG will light a spark.

Gosh, I think he has playmaking abilities to be a star. The only thing that hurts him is he's kind of a tweener.

Playmaking abilities? 6 assist in 178 minutes doesn't scream "playmaker" thus far.

I already said I want him gone. What more do you want from me?

Gosh, you said he has to the playmiaking ability to be a star in your first post. Now you say you want him to be gone. Perhaps you don't know as much about basketball as you think you do?

Or, perhaps you're just trolling at this point, because CJ is playing like dogshit, and your original post looks dumb?

People evolve. Like your stance on Andre Miller.

Troll? You throw that word around way too loosely. Takes one to know one.

CJ is playing like dogshit

You expect another Lillard. McCollum is doing fine. Give him his first 2 seasons to transition from the LeHigh level to the Wesley Matthews level.

Hopefully CJ takes his demotion well and works 2x as hard to get back on the court. I did like what Wright brought in terms of defense last night, though.

Lillard? I'd be happy with another Will Barton at this point.

It's tough enough being a rookie. It's tougher when you're injured for the start of the season and have to work your way both into NBA shape and the rotation.

I think he'll be fine. He'll eventually be our third guard and play 22-30 mpg. I think he'll be a terrific bench player and perhaps a decent starter one day.

My thoughts exactly. I'd rep you, but my thoughts aren't generally rep-worthy. ;)

Stotts knows what he's doing here. I believe that. There's a reason guys earn a shot off the bench and a reason they lose rotation spots. One thing is for sure, our bench players are not tired. That's not an excuse. Leonard just gave TRob another shot after two poor games. CJ could not guard Melo...that's for sure.

no one can guard Melo

I can't get the vision of him not being able to get around Fisher out of my head. That is bad. Any good guard can get by Fisher.

Olshey already struck out on Leonard. Let's hope it doesn't happen with McCollum.

At 6'3 CJ doesn't have much wingspan it looks like. At any rate, the young man is facing somebody he's never played before every game so I've said before, he's a project. Guy has a good looking jump shot though.
