Nurk is fool’s gold, we get a wave of beast Nurk every season. We lucked out this season with it being so close to the trade deadline.
He couldn't play for two of those season....I think he's in game shape for the first time since he broke his leg

If you trade Nurk you need to bring back a center that can beat him....that's the bottom line....a guy like Jonas Valanciunas seems to get the best of Nurk often but there aren't many of those guys out there. Nurk is playing the way a championship 5 would play over the last stretch of games...we'll see.....he might not want to stay here either for all we know....he just bought a house in Miami...not Portland recently. Not sure if he has one here or not.

Well, Miami does have one of the few centers I would trade him for.
My guess though is he probably wants to retire there.

nurk has a 3 mil mansion in portland or wherever west linn is

Cool! Honestly I love the guy's game and think he's actually got low miles on himself since he spent so much time recovering....he looks in game shape and if he wants to be here and Chauncey and Dame want to keep him and make a run...I'm all in. Nurk should get a hefty raise next contract. I'm upgrading from Zeller if anything...that guy is a glass with cracks.

You would know about inconsistency.

3 of those 4 are speculative comments about nurk being used in a role. but if that helped you feel you won then you won.

Nurk is inconsistent.

First comment: me talking about nurks comments in the off-season.

Second comment: about Chaunceys use of nurk in a hypothetical.

Third comment: talking about keeping nurk and having a rookie stay behind him in... You guessed it, a hypothetical that never played out.

Fourth comment: a truth.

You literally took 3 hypothetical comments that were consistent with my views and a 4th comment that has been uttered by so many people.

I mean, if you're going to try to disparage me, at least bring context. It was blatantly obvious from which each of those comments came from.

Nice try.

It was a good try, I accomplished what I wanted. Bye.

nurk never had this big of a role, so we cant really know if he can keep producing on a consistent basis, time will tell if his role remains the same

he was consistent this season as a role player, now lets see if he can do the same thing with bigger role

I don’t understand what all the guys that want Nurk but also want Ben are talking about. I really don’t see a Nurk/Ben/Little frontcourt working offensively very well.

Defense wins Championships. Ben would find Nurk and Nas better than anyone we have now.
So we are gonna start 2 guys that can’t make a shot outside of 10 feet and another one who is a career 30% shooter from 3? Sounds like we will get blown out a lot.

Are you talking about Little when you say career 30% shooter from 3? Seems like a small sample size, similar to what happened earlier in the season when a few dumb asses said he basically sucked. It's not like he has a bad shooting stroke that can't be fixed. I have no doubt he will eventually be a decent 3 pt shooter.
I would definitely take Ben as our PF. You could always find another 3 pt shooter if Little did not improve in that area.

I just don’t like the Nurk/Ben combo. I’d take Ben but I’d move Nurk.

Sounds like you want a center that can spread the floor. I can get behind that, but it seems like most of the bigs that can shoot do not excel on D.
Hard to find one that can do both, or at least hard to find one that is available.

When Nurk scored his 28 and 29th pts in the Jan 21 Celtics win, scoring the winning shot in the final seconds with a precision hook shot over 4 battling Celtics in the paint after an excellent offensive rebound, he proved his value is at the all-star contender level to the Blazers. Re-sign him!

There is no Blazer historically except Bill Walton who achieved 29 pts, 17 reb, 6 assts, a steal and a block in one game, and that shows Nurk is the center for a championship Blazer team. That Celtics win was a terrific performance that the Blazers should acknowledge and celebrate. Nurk along with Dame and developing Nas and Simons can lead to the championship next year! It is time to cheer the Nurk role in the win over the Celtics!

But can he stay healthy all year?

That is the big question. I'm always a bit wary of someone who light it up in their contract year and that is a departure from the majority of what they have done for the rest of their contract. Injuries, inconsistencies, poutiness, had all been part of Nurk before this. Now he is in the stretch run to get paid, and we get the 'Fever' version of Nurk.

Love it when he plays that way and he certainly has the capability, but that has been shown to be inconsistent at best. That said, there are only a few team that will have the cap room he is looking for this summer. If we could retain him for around $15/16 a year, that would be a healthy increase for him, and reasonable on our end to keep. But there were too many nights when a Vet-Min guy like Drummond would have his lunch.

Maybe. Maybe not. That by itself is not the reason to get a new center. Perhaps adding a really good 4 like John Collins, Siakam or Simmons can give you insurance on Nurk's health.

there really isn't much difference in nurk this year compared to years past.

Even Per 36 numbers are fairly identical to how he has been all his career.

i don't see a contract year bump, just more of an effort by his teammates to make him a focal point. if we can have him maintain this level of engagement when Dame returns, Nurk is easily going to be worth extending.

This 'year', no. But people aren't basing it on the entire year, but rather what he has done in the last 12 games where his production, and especially rebounding, has soared. Take the games before that, and everyone was quite happy to have him shipped out. The question is, can he continue his recent run, or is this just convenient timing for a player looking for a payday that hasn't really had a sustained run like this before?

there's a very tangible reason for his improvement outside of simply motivation to get a payday.

And that is the question. When Dame comes back and is taking 20 shots, and whomever is left of CJ/Norm/Ant is taking another 15 shots a piece, will Nurk be happy with what is left? Will he continue to dominate on the glass, or is that only tied to him getting more touches?

i think it's more of a Chauncey/Dame/CJ problem than Nurk's. Most big men need touches to stay engaged. Myles Turner, or whomever we get to replace Nurk would have a similar issue. Even Rudy Gobert with his one post move complained about not getting the ball.

In the last 12 games, Nurk is averaging 17.4 ppg and 13.4 rpg.
He also had a 12 game stretch earlier in the year where he averaged 9.75 ppg and 7.9 rpg.

One of those I'm happy to re-sign. The other, not so much. Yes, Dame/CJ being out for much of the last 12 games gives him more touches, but that just won't be the case on a good team going forward. He is going to have to produce at a higher efficiency level with what he is given.

if there was any player who tried to keep Nurkic involved in the offense it was Dame. IMO, A lot of Nurkic's issues earlier in the season was Billups insisting on running Dame off the ball a lot. It was bad for Dame and it was bad for Nurkic. There were other factors certainly, but prior to this season, Nurk fever was aided a lot by the synergy Dame and Nurkic had

nurk never had this many post ups and there are two options really: either chauncey wants him to post up or ant is voluntarily giving him the ball

there was no post ups for nurk when dame was there and to me it looks like it was dame who ran the offense, not chauncey and he decided not to give the ball to nurk on the block

to me, ant & nurk have better chemistry than dame & nurk (not in terms of understanding each other better, but rather in terms of passing the ball to each other)
