Nurkic is a Blazer!!

Ugh... you know what this trade means? We're going back to having our big man sag off of ball screens 100% of the time, because Stotts doesn't want Nurkic leaving the paint, and Nurkic will get 6 fouls in 10 minutes of game time having to guard endless 2 on 1's.

This also means we might see more Meyers, Vonleh, and Ed at center.

I just want to say that this trade makes me uneasy.

Can't we get someone to take Meyers off our hands? I don't even care who we get in return!

I'm extremely disappointed that we don't play SAC or MEM any more this year. Both Meyers and Nurkic have a history of pissing off both Boogie and Marc Gasol. Nurkic loves to talk shit, but he may want to choose his targets a little more wisely:

and Meyers has a way of getting under people's skin just by merely existing.

If we do start Nurkic and Meyers together, we may have the highest piss-off-ability of any team in the league.

I'm actually fine with that.

I'd be okay with Olshey being done til the off-season. He did what he had to--got some value for a player he was going to have to lose for nothing otherwise in free agency. Rather than looking to trade for a power forward upgrade, in a non-contention season, I'd let Vonleh play starter minutes next to The Nurk and see what happens. Vonleh has shown some ability to shoot jumpers. If he can progress on defense, continue rebounding well and knock down some shots, he might fit well with Nurkic and solidify himself as, dare I say it, an asset.

And if he stinks--better draft pick. And we know more about Vonleh's upside.
Agree - this is a win/win situation.

Behold the 7'0" 280 lb. giant Nurkic.
"Nurkic, who was the 16th overall pick of the 2014 NBA Draft, adds size (7-0, 280-pounds), youth (22 years old) and defense to the Blazers' roster. He's played 45 games this season, including 29 starts, and is averaging 8.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in 27.9 minutes per game." We needed a defensive presence in the paint.
17.9 minutes not 27.9.

Yeah. I'd hope it would rub off on Meyers. But nah, can't ask the impossible.

I know there isn't much practice time during the season, and a lot of that will be spent getting Nurkic up to speed on our system (teaching him how to forget playing defense, etc.), but I really hope him and Meyers spend a lot of time over the summer and during training camp going head-to-head. Nurkic loves to talk shit and plays with attitude. Meyers needs to have someone challenge him physically and call him out for being such a passive push-over.

We love to make trades with Denver. Hopefully its better than the first two.

I don't know if Nurkic has to be taught how to forget to play defense.

Although if he can help Meyers grow a pair...

Conspiracy theory: part of the trade agreement was that the Blazers drop out of the playoffs race.

How did we know that Denver would follow through on the trade so many weeks later?

It will be nice to not be one of the more 'soft' teams in the league. Nurkic is a beast and plays with some attitude. Sorely needed in Portland.

Yep we needed Ezeli in that role. He was the biggest guy on the team until now at 265. Plums and Leonard are next on the list. Neither of which are real physical under neath the rim. Even if Nurkic can play the Rolo role and clear out space so other can get the rebounds.

He will if he wants to fit in here.

Seriously, I hope it's the other way around. I hope some of his attitude, physicality and willingness to stand up to anyone and everyone rubs off on the rest of this team.

I like that our players are good citizens of the community, but that doesn't mean they have to be buddy-buddy with their opponents. I think C.J. has a little of that in him (loved the Chandler Parsons tweet). Anyone who is trying to beat you is your enemy. I think too many players have forgotten that. Anyone who DOES beat you is taking something from you that you value. You shouldn't LIKE people who are taking something from you. It SHOULD piss you off.

This is how you fucking rebuild. Now if we can just tank properly.... we'll have 4 first round draft picks.

I think Nurkic will adjust quickly.

Once he understands that the paint is hot lava and works on his 3-Pt shot, we're golden.
