Nurkic is the best true pick and roll player Lillard has played with

I definitely won't be holding my breath when we need a bucket at the end of games like I did when Mason had to shoot them..that's for sure. Nurk can go get a bucket anytime

Mason Plumlee is top 5 in the league in screen assists so get out of here with that. I'm not disagreeing with your main point, but if you want to call Nurk the best P&R player Dame has played with then you should also call Mase the best screener Dame has played with.

Well, he gets assists with nifty passing off the screen (which Nurk can also do), not because he just made the guard on the pick suddenly wonder where all the chirpy birds dancing around his face came from. I never saw Plums actually daze somebody with a pick.

Plumlee is a gifted passer for a center, but actually extremely forgettable as an actual pick-setter. Nurk is a good passer but not as good, but then you don't have to deliver a brilliant pass if you just made a big opening for the guard.

2nd... witness the glory.... we are all witnesses. What a great trade Neil! Now if you can figure out what to do with Crabbe's and Leonard's contracts I'll give you a pass for this season.

I love all those slick little post shots he gets in there. He's very Sabonis-esque right around the rim. Big and slow-looking but oddly coordinated and versatile. And like Sabas he just kind of moves people around a lot more than you'd think he would (especially after watching Meyers Leonard for several years.)

One of the things I like about BB27's game is his method of offense. He goes into the defender, not to overpower them a la Shaq, but because when they're pushing so hard against him, they can't jump. So, he just raises his arms and shoots right over them. An awesome tactic for a big man, and a sensible one for a big man that can't jump. Not physical domination, just using what you've got.

Since the technique is based on size, and not "athleticism", he'll be able to do it when he's 35, no problem. Lock him up, Neil!

Assists off of screens means he sets a screen that gets his man open enough to make a shot, it has nothing to do with passing.

I remember some time ago posting what a relief it was to have Lillard after so many years of point guard futility, mediocrity and failed expectations. Stoudamire, Telfair, Chacho, Blake, Jack....none of them were the leader we really needed at that position. Miller was, but was also short-lived and under-utilized. To get a guy like Damian who proved from his very first game as a Blazer that he was a franchise cornerstone was such a relief.

Nurkic is exactly the same guy from the center position. He erases the memories of Oden, Jermaine, LaMonster, LaMarshmallow, Kemp, Zbo and so many more. All those idle what-ifs about Bowie or Oden or Walton staying healthy, getting Sabas at a young age....he just feels like a guy who will be wearing a Blazer jersey for the next decade, killing so many big man ghosts.

I was thinking the same thing. My feelings about Nurk tonight remind me of my feelings about Dame back in 2012. We have a keeper!

In two games, Nurkic is a combined 11-17, 25 pts, 19 reb, 6 ast, 6 stl, 3 blk, +41
In two games, CJ is a combined 15-36, 40 pts, 3 reb, 6 ast, 2 stl, 2 blk, -19

You don't think it's arguable that Nurkic has performed as the second best player on the team over the past two games?
no, the best.

I'm loving what I'm seeing so far, but this is the part I worry about:
Well, would you look who found a little pep in his step? Sparky Nurkic has looked like a completely different player since the Blazers nabbed him -- plus a first-round pick! -- in another center-for-center swap. After an enticing rookie season, Nurkic spent most of his time in Denver injured, disengaged, and cranky.

Analysts mostly panned Denver and Philly for trading Nurkic and Nerlens Noel as their value cratered, but there's a common thread running between those deals: The situations with both guys had deteriorated beyond the point at which they could be salvaged. Nurkic was never going to try this hard fighting for scraps behind Nikola Jokic. You can debate whether that is acceptable from a millionaire player, or if the Nuggets could have done more to motivate Nurkic. You cannot debate the basic reality.
Maybe all he needed was a better situation, and young guys probably can't be expected to handle everything professionally out of the gate, but it's something worth keeping an eye on.

Nurk just wants to have fun and he just wants to be himself and I have to give Stotts credit he has allow Nurk be himself.

I think Nurkic is really rejuvenating Harkless. Tired of playing hard? No problem, have some free dunks.
Hark 10 and 9 last night, I think both he and Vonleh will benefit. For me Aminu is surpassing Meyers (and that ain't easy!) as the most frustrating player on the team, his decisions to dribble inside are just so often so bad and he was god awful last night. I know the guy is trying hard, likely too hard, with Nurk he should be like Hark and take his opps as they come and come they will - Stotts needs to address this now.

Aminu can be frustrating at times, but the advanced stats have said that we are a significantly better defensive team when he's on the court.

I'm referring to an article that's around 2 weeks old.

On February 5, @riverman and I posted the following (excerpted);

(Riverman) I miss really good passing and skilled post play the most...the 3 pt shot is starting to water down the style of play........

(UCD)...............And as Riverman noted, most teams either had (or tried hard to find) a big "aircraft carrier" at center. A guy who could pretty much owned the key and who acted as the hub of a wheel, directing traffic, calling out screens and hitting the cutters. They also made the drive to the hoop more thought provoking and problematic.........................

On February 12 we traded for Nurkic......

Nice to know that Neil listens to the old timers......:chestbump:

Maybe he's paying you back for the reach around that he never gave you on ship?

It's a good thing you can virtually pat yourself on the back on S2, cuz I know your old T-Rex arms won't reach far enough for you to do it in reality.

I actually knew a kid in grade school who had T-Rex arms. His name was James.

James was a dick.

The kid is 22. He was given a taste of starting early in his career and balled out his rookie year. He was hurt his second year but finished it on a good note. He then worked his ass off last summer and came into this season as the starting C on his team. He had a slump and was given no leeway to make mistakes. Granted, Jokic pounced on that opportunity to become the clearly better player, Malone did jerk Jusuf around. He went from starting to getting DNP CDs.

As a competitive guy who still hasn't been paid yet, the pouting is OK. Especially when the team wasn't really winning all that much in his absence.

I don't think we have any reason to worry. He's in the right environment in PDX.

I feel like we were partially responsible. I remember Dame abusing him on drives and they had to bench him.
