Obama loses bin Laden bounce; Romney on the move among GOP contenders

would all of you prefer our economy stays crap until the election?

given the option of a) continuing agenda, policies and philosophy that have contributed mightily (though not wholly) to our "crap economy", hoping that the results magically get better in the next 6 years....or b) having a 17-month run of "crap" economy to ensure that those policies go away (along with the people who created them, and I'm NOT just talking about the C-i-C), I'd have to go with b, Bob.

What you don't understand is that while our economy is crap today, tossing an extra 4T (and counting!) in debt after it has not had the effect that those who created it projected or desired. Basically, the plan failed, and whatever gains people think have been made in their life ("I get free ObamaCare now!") are wholly unsustainable and will come at the expense of something else (say, their SS payments defaulting or military retirements going away).

As a country we need to take our collective medicine, and the more time that passes without doing so, the more painful it will be.

yeah thats what i figured, kinda like sometimes its gotta get worse before it gets better.

by chance the economy makes a miraculous turnaround, would you be disappointed? basically, some posters here just hate obama, some just hate the quagmire we are in

If the economy makes a turnaround, then that will definitely be thrown into the equation as a benefit for the incumbent. I don't see that happening, but I'm not a macroeconomics expert, and would be thrilled if the Stimulus Package started to work tomorrow.

You asked if people wanted the economy to "stay crap until the election". What kind of idiot would want that, or even ask that question?

im sure lots of idiots would want that, as it would be more reason to vote obama out...what kind of moron doesnt realize that? you might be the only one.

Some of us "morons" would prefer that the country is successful now and in the long term over voting for a candidate because there is a "D" or "R" next to their name.

thanks for clarifying that you want the economy to get better, even though that would guarantee obamas reelection, that was my question.

if you doubt some people think otherwise, i suggest you up your meds

im one of them btw, if the gop can sack up and put someone worth voting for up, im all ears

I'm all for a turnaround- BUT I want it be very real and to last. Not just some 3-6 month mini recovery before back in the toilet.

This statement already shows a strong bias. The dems are going to put forth a candidate that has presided over an absolutely terrible economy. If it doesn't get better before election time, it is still up to the GOP to sack up and produce somebody amazing? As things are, I don't think the GOP needs an amazing candidate to do better for this country than what we have.

True, but the incumbent has the power of being... the incumbent. It's a big deal.

There were seven candidates on the podium last night, and every single one would make a better president than our current one.

If the unemployment rate stays as it is and the deficit isn't properly dealt with, the GOP can nominate a so-so candidate and I think they walk in.

Watch the electoral college (state by state polls), but...

Election 2012: Generic Presidential Ballot
Generic Republican Candidate 46%, Obama 44%

Nearly one-in-three voters do not like the way the 2012 presidential race is shaping up for now in the two major political parties. Given a choice between the incumbent and one of the potential Republican presidential candidates, 30% think 2012 would be a good year to consider electing a third-party candidate.
