For his first 5-6 years, the Great Communicator was allowed a monthly speech to the nation on all 3 networks. Then Clinton became President. He was allowed absolutely no national speeches, with the networks owned by rich Republicans. I saw a Democratic voter on TV news say, "It's a whole different media for Democrats."

Clinton was 100 times the communicator as the Great Communicator, who couldn't speak extemporaneously if his life depended upon it. Nancy would whisper to him what to say to reporters, when she wasn't checking her horoscope.

Then in came Gingrich, who loved the sound of his own voice, so he flooded C-SPAN with his windy blowhard speeches. Soon even his own party was so bored that they drove him out of office. In the 2000s, Republicans passed the time by starting wars and learning Spider Solitaire on their new computers. Now after 8 years they're frothing at the mouth, itchy to kill and blow the deficit sky-high again.

The deadly shooting in San Bernardino happened in a state with some of the nation's toughest gun laws: California bars assault weapons, blocks the sale of large-capacity magazines and requires universal background checks for all gun purchases.

Authorities say they believe attackers Syed Rizwan Farook and wife Tashfeen Malik had legally obtained two handguns and that two rifles were also legally purchased in California. Federal officials say the attackers had large-capacity magazines that violate California law in their SUV.

Since the attack Wednesday at a social service center in Southern California, the state's strict laws and the apparent legal purchase of the weapons have set off a debate over the effectiveness of gun measures and whether getting tougher would help prevent more violence.

The guns were purchased legally in the state with the toughest gun laws. So what now?

They're totally missing the point. It's not even about the damn guns, it's about the extremest Muslim holy war they have with America. Doesn't matter how tough the laws are..... Although I suspect you know that Nate.

It just boggles my mind because it is literally the only situation where we are blaming the tool and not the person. It's like they don't even care what the REASON is for the shooting, they just want to rage about the method.

I know a lot of people like to compare guns to cars, but I actually think computers are a better comparison. When someone hacks the government, or Sony, or some celeb's cell phone or Ashley Madison, do we blame computers in general? No. We blame the hackers. We go after the hackers. We don't try to pass computer legislation to limit the usage of computers. We don't pass laws requiring the registration of computers. Lives were ruined when Ashley Madison was hacked. Some guys killed themselves. Ban computers, no?

I appreciate the example. I agree w/the premise. It does boggle the mind. I have argued with some friends of mine over gun control for countless hours. They are die-hard democrats. Continually seeing guns as some sort of WMD (like a nuke or some shit). Hell, I had my concealed on me, and he was afraid it was going to jump out of my pocket and bite him. The guy can't even pick up a rifle and know which end is which. Uninformed, scared people, being brain washed by fear mongering. What makes it worse is the media has an agenda; so everyone gets shoveled this bullshit.

Yes, I am cool with better background checks, and screening more for mentally unfit people to get guns, but that's just more about making sure someone is fit and responsible, same would go for a car, planes, etc.

Sorry but that's not a very good comparison. A couple of cheaters committing suicide is not the same as rooms full of people being shot.

Now if you could hack a computer to get it to blow up rooms full of people you might be on to something. And if that could happen, multiple times, around the nation, you bet there would be legislation to try and stop it.

It's not just about a body count. It's about breaking the law and the tool you use to do it. How many crimes do you think are committed using computers every day? Every year? How many lives are severely impacted through phishing and hacking?

Cars aren't a good comparison either because how many people use cars to intentionally go out and kill people?

It is about the body count. Do you think anyone would be discussing gun laws if there hadn't been these mass shootings?

And that just shows how fickle people are, because there are much more important issues that affect significantly more people, but nobody cares because the average person has the attention span of a 5 year old. They jump from one thing that offends them to the next, always posting on facebook and ranting to their like-minded friends about how evil the other side is.

Yes, and it doesn't help much when we have a President that can only lead that level of moron. It is also disgusting to see smart people weigh in, right in step with the deflector in chief, rather
than step up and lead as they should.

Well, Trump does want to close down the internet...
